What makes a mishit so good

Have you ever hit a serve only to find that you've mishit it, and therefore produced some kind of wicked spin on it that makes it bounce in an unpredicatable manner? Maybe even on a groundstroke = twist serve groundstroke? Well I was wondering, what actually gives it that kind of spin? I mean, if I could do that everytime, I would surely use it everytime!!! I have a feeling you can't hit a shot with this kind of spin if you hit the ball cleanly? Any insight?

Are you saying we should devise a way to teach mishit shots? Well, mishits are mishits, these shots are unplanned, accidental, and if fall in the court are difficult to return because the receiver cannot anticipate them!

My opponent made a total mishit which produced trememdous underspin on the ball. The serve turned into a drop shot serve and it was a total accident. The opponent played it off like he meant to do that so I found my revenge on him when I picked up a dead ball and hit the softest slice serves I could manage on him which led to 3 easy points. Revenge is good on the tennis court.

Well, I agree with MK. Some of these "mishits" (most in fact) come off the frame or a combination of frame and strings and would be extremely difficult to reproduce on a consistant basis.

FRAME SPIN! Gotta love it. Some of my best lobs and kick serves can be attributed to it.

Since switchig to a thinner racquet (18mm), I hit the frame much less often.

Yeah on one freak smash I hit, there was this weird super back spin I imparted and the ball bounced back over the net into our court.

You pay more for the frame than the strings might as well get some use of that pricey frame. Seriously though, the advantage you get from a mishit is the unpredictable nature of the spin and speed. If you could mishit it everytime as you are suggesting kicking**** it would become predictable and the players are going to move in and jump all over it. You can make a similar argeument for teaching to hit the tap so the ball just rolls over onto the other side. Very effective when you opponent is at the baseling but not practicle. Most players have a tough enough time hitting the strings...finding their frame consistently isn't going to help.

Is that a Vokyl frame that is 18mm ??

Which frame exactly are you hitting that is 18mm ??

I would expect that is a fairly flexible frame, True ??

Thanks

Well OK maybe it isn't such a good idea practising these mishits, but, can anyone explain to me why it is that you get much more spin on the ball then you would if you hit the ball cleanly???

Yes, Vin. I also felt that on kick serves, slice serves, slice backhands, and excessive topspin shots when the strings are moving either upward or downward you frame the ball more with wider frames than thinner frames.

go ahead try to master mishits. I don't know which will come first though, you mastering it? or your arm falling apart from all the frame shock
