What racket after the Yonex Ezone DR98?

So i bought this racket 3 years ago. Always liked the feel of it, but for some reason it has too much power for me. I don't mind it on the serve (i actually like it on the serve), but i feel i have to hold back on my groundstrokes to not hit long. Before the Ezone i had a Wilson blx six one team 18x20 (with quite a bit of leadtape). This had less power and more control, which was good, bit it lacked topspin in my opinion. Which is why i switched to the Ezone.

So now i'm looking for a racket that has less power than the Ezone and more spin than the Wilson. I've had my eye on the Yonex vcore pro 330/310 and the Dunlop Srixon CX 200 Tour 18x20. Do you guys have any suggestions? Or maybe i should just string my Ezone differently? I've used the Cyclone 16g and MSV focus hex 16g. Tightest i strung it was 23kg (50lbs).

I'd give the Yonex V Core Pro 310 a go with its more traditional beam and control oriented feel compared to the E Zone for a start and go from there.

Vcore pro sounds like an option. Look at the new blades when they come out also. Some of the playtesters said the dr98 was kind of in the middle of the pure aero and blade, with the blade being more control oriented. Prince phantom pro 100 320g also looks interesting.

I've been playing with an old 16*19 blade 2015 myself after previously using the dr98.

If you like the racket why not try a different string set up? Definitely a lot cheaper to do that. Hyper g will tone it down some. Any reason you hybrid those two particular polys? Why not full bed of cyclone?

I agree, if you like everything else about the racquet other than the power, why not change the string variable rather than all variables at once. Yonex Tour Pro 120 at #45 on a lock-out machine really helped to decrease the power on my Warrior 100.

Thanks for the input. Definitely will give the Vcore Pro a try. Never thought about the Vcore 95. It looks interesting, but what i get from the TW review is that it's hard to generate spin with?

I've thought about the Phantom Pro rackets, but it seems like the string patern is too open for a 100 inch rackethead. Doesn't that make it hard to control the ball?

The Blade i'll definitely keep an eye on. Any idea when the new Blades will come out?

I'm not using a hybrid. Just ment that those are the two strings i've tried so far. Seems like those strings a low powered as it is, or will Hyper g make a big difference? Or maybe i should string even tighter?

I have the PP100P, and it's a great control frame despite the 16x18 pattern. I too switched from the DR98 to the Phantom line as I was finding the former too powerful.

Spin is sometimes more relative to the person and their strokes. Then comes equipment like racket and strings. As far as feel it and playability the vcore might be there for you.

Prince although open pattern is not a stiff frame so it ranges in the control. Stiffer frame with open pattern is generally your more powerful frame. Think Babolat Pure Drive. Open pattern helps with spin, flex ranges in control.

Sorry I misunderstood regarding your strings. You could string tighter just to see how it feels or reacts. You could add some weight to the butt cap to give a more headlight balance that would reduce power some and possibly give you more spin because maybe you’ll swing faster thru the zone.

Strings do make a difference. Volkl cyclone to me comes off a little powerful. You could try something like signum pro hextreme, textured still, although it’s a stiffer string. It’s an underpowered string. Send me a pm if you want to try a set. Just pay for shipping and cost of string, probably 5 bucks.

Yonex poly tour spin is another extremely underpowered string too.
Unfortunately I don’t have anymore of it for you to try.

Tried many a racket and the control from Prince Phantoms is incredible.

I might have spoken too soon. Today i strung my Ezone with Solinco Revolution 17g at 24kg (52 lbs) and it played terrific. I could swing away without being afraid of hitting long. I think the problem was that my previous string was old and stretched and strung too low. Usually i'm not that sensitive about strings (i don't notice that much difference) but this was night and day.

I would try stringing differently first.

Go for Cyclone 17 - you'll get a little less swingweight, a little more spin and also longer usefull stringbed life because it won't lock up like 16g. All this should add up to balls landing shorter.

What racket currently on the market would people say is the most similar to the DR98? I was thinking the Prince Textreme Tour 310g

Sounds like the ezone update coming soon is supposed to be similar to the dr 98. Might want to wait and see what the update is like.

16x19 one? is it like the DR?
Yup. The handle on the Blade is super short, though, so if you're a 2H BH player, you may not enjoy it. I've moved on to the EZONE 98, so I haven't used the DR98 in 2 years. But compared to the EZONE 98, the Blade V7 has more power and stability. I'm sticking with my EZONE because the stringbed and overall feel is better, but that's a personal thing. And I have an affinity to Yonex. Others might prefer the feel of the Blade.

DR98 Light - add lead as needed.

String it with Cyclone 17 (16 poly locks up in DR98).

Another thing to possibly consider is techinique. Angle of racket face relative to the ball makes a huge difference on the depth of shot. Go a little more western and get your swing more vertical (hopefully from your legs) - this should give you a more spinny, arching ball that lands shorter.
