What Racquet (If winning didn't matter)?

A little off topic but I think there should be a fifth slam: The Woody Slam. All racquets used must be the old wood style racquets from the seventies. It would be interesting to see how today's top pros would compete with those frames. Yes, it wood. [emoji3]

Back on topic. I wouldn't play with a racquet I wouldn't enjoy playing with.

It makes me quite happy each and ever time I am able to stand on a tennis court after last year's "event." Having a choice in racquets or even one in hand is pure gravy.
I hear you! that should be the case for everyone actually... without "events" to remind us of it.

I probably hit the best ball with a PD. But it hurts my arm. Why would I sacrifice winning over arm health?

Numero Uno priority is a racket that won't hurt my arm. Next priority is one that i feel confident with. I win at tennis with my game and my brain. The racquet is irrelevant. So it better feel good and give me confidence.
But a racket being too stiff has nothing to do with winning. So that doesn’t answer the question. If winning didn’t matter, the pure drive would still hurt your arm.

What if you play best with a light, stiff, Granny stick? Make fewer errors, get more spin, more power. But grew up with a Woodie?
Those picklers will never have this problem
But then wouldn’t you enjoy playing with that granny stick more as you can play your best tennis? With the wooden racket, you play worse and make more mistakes. So that wouldn’t be enjoyable at all. Maybe good for some fun once in a while, but not consistently

Definitely Pro Staff 90. One of the best rackets ever-made, IMO. Has a nice amount of heft, on top of outstanding feel. It's too bad that the headsize and its sweetspot is too demanding for my level.

Oh man, my Gottfried Snauwaert is dearest and nearest to my heart! Loved woodies!

I have a bagful of Gottfrieds

Strung in gut

I am particularly fond of one that is a little shorter and does not have the beefed up throat and hoop

Can play Dv 1 with it when indoors

Much prefer them to Woodies, Head Vilas etc

Oh and has myServe yourServe on the butt cap

It would be a challenge scrounging up these frames in good enough condition to play tournaments with.

woody slam is an interesting idea, like wooden bat league or such. maybe a graphite approximation would be more practical, ps85 league w poly string disallowed?

also agree on not playing w racquet that i dont like ... it just doesnt happen. have yet to find one that gives me a tremendous advantage but yet i hate the feel of

I would still be hitting with the Pro Staff Midsize St. Vincent. Maybe one of the Prestige Mids, probably the IGPM.

That said, the new Blade 98 18x20 seems to help with both - winning & pleasure of hitting.
Definitely the Wilson K Factor 6.1 90

I would say PS85 St Vincent, K90, and maybe I-Prestige Mid. I was gonna include my PT630's but I'm winning with those.

Brian Gottfried - that's a name from a long time ago. Tragic and unnecessary death. He died by CO poisoning.

He coaches at JTTC Jacksonville Fl

Vitas Gerulaitis was the victim of CO poisoning
