What should current WTA field be payed compared to ATP?

How much do the current womens field deserve to be played relative to the men? In almost any other era I think women deserve equal pay but in fairness I think their current play should accurately reflect the truly worst womens tennis field in history, and probably that will be seen for atleast another 1000 years, and be reflected in the pay until it passes over (hopefully in only a few years).

I would say what they are capable of generating in seat sales and TV viewership on their own. Another words, take the slams out of it, and base it strictly on their tour vs the men. I suspect most womens sports make 50% or less than their male counterparts, such as the WNBA vs. the NBA. However womens tennis does have a following, so I suspect they could generate 75% of what the men do.

Technically, they play 60% of what the men play (best of 3 vs best of 5)

Most of them would have a heart attack and need to be transported immediately to a local hospital if they had to play 5 sets. Dragging those hefty bodies around, especialy in the heat, for 3.5 hours or so, yikes.

I had a solution for this a long time ago - JUST DISSOLVE THE WTA! Let women play on ATP.

Problem solved - now women are truly treated 'equal' to men. Completely gender BLIND treatment of players - this is what we should aspire towards. All you 'equal pay' folks - this is fair right?

My message to WTA: Stop discriminating against men - Either let men join WTA or admit your tour is inferior and don't ever ask for equal pay. Your choice.

Ideal solution is above - merge ATP and WTA - completely gender blind and fair sport competition.

Equal pay for equal work.

Give 'em 60%. I would say 25% but they do generate some ratings from non-tennis fans, who change the channel and say, "tennis is the worst sport ever."

Are you all talking about the Slams are all the time? Aren't most of the ATP tourneys best of 3 anyway?

The ATP should just have men only slams. Let the women have their own slam and see how much TV money they generate. Bugger all I imagine.

In all fairness though, it isn't their (the players) fault that the field looks the way it does.

Go back to grass, limit racquet stiffness and headsize etc etc. Posters like joe_sch, Superstition in their posts have already put it way better than I could ever hope to.
