Where are the 2014 and 2015 Div 1 NCAA tennis championships

being held?

I have checked the ITA website and cannot find any information. I read somewhere that UGA had the 2014's, but the official NCAA website currently says (TBD). A few weeks ago an "in the know" UVA poster on the UVA Sabre tennis website said that UVA would get it, because of a rumored new big time outdoor facility to be built near the current 12 indoor court facility at Boars Head Tennis and Sports Club where both the men's and women's team indoor have been held. Some as yet unnamed donor was supposedly going to put up the money and he apparently has lots of it. UVA has not announced anything official about a new outdoor tennis facility and the current one is probably not suitable, although there are 12 courts. UVA always has a graduation weekend conflict, so I doubt Charlottesville has the hotel rooms to handle both unless they move the NCAA's back a week.

Has anyone here heard anything? I was told by someone, who would know that WF had put in a bid for the 2015 NCAA Div 1 tournament at their new tennis facility. I have seen it and it would be fine tennis wise with 6 indoor courts adjacent to the site. Supposedly MSU's #1 Bogaerts (sp?) is transferring to WF along with another MSU player. Is this official?

One last thing, there was talk last year about changing the current format of 16 men's and women's teams at the same site. Has anyone heard any thing about future changes? I think 32 teams are tough to handle and I have been to to the last 6 NCAA championships. Miraculously the predicted rain stayed away this year, but an all day rain on the first 4 days would be tough to handle. Since the top 5 or 6 teams almost never lose in the first round, I think a final 8 format would be better.

Not sure how you get down to 8 teams, but maybe they could expand the first weekend regionals from 4 to 8 teams.

Yes, the 2014 NCAA Tennis Championships will be at UGA next year.

That link is from 2012 and I remember reading about it at the time. The link below is to the latest and official 2014 NCAA tournament location website and it clearly says TBD for Div 1 tennis. This website was last updated in mid May 2013 and the other 2014 Div II and III NCAA tennis championship locations are listed. This is why I asked the original question. If it was definitely UGA in 2014, why not say so on the official NCAA website?

I think a format change is coming and that is why it is a TBD situation.

No one said UVA would get it, just that UVA was likely going to bid for the 2015 event. They would absolutely have to build a new outdoor facility, as Snyder is not a suitable facility to host a tournament like the NCAAs.

The hotel situation would work very well for competitors, because UVA's Indoor facility (and the presumed location of the new outdoor facility) are a short walk from more than enough hotel rooms that UVA could hold for the NCAAs.

Charlottesville is also undergoing a bit of a hotel boom right now. The City did an analysis of hotel room occupancy rates in the area (they are ridiculously high, well above industry standard). The results of that study have been pushed out to hotel operators, and they are responding. I'd guess there will be an additional 500 rooms in the market by 2015, easy.

The Boars Head Inn prices might be a bit much for most teams budget

Since UVA owns Boars Head, if they get the NCAA's I am sure the prices will not be a problem, plus they can clear as many rooms as needed. While getting to C'ville by plane is not very convenient due to the small airport and few flights, Richmond's airport is 80 miles away and DC is about 120.

BH and this rumored new tennis facility combined with the existing 12 indoor courts in case of rain would be the nicest place for the players and most convenient arrangement ever for the NCAA tennis championships.

The BH tennis club already has something like 18+- outdoor clay (Har Tru) courts and I think 3 hard courts, so converting more to hard would be easy to do. I have been there many times and adding enough seating, much like UI has done should be doable. Not needing to build a brand new facility will be cheaper and quicker, so IF UVA is in the running for getting the NCAA's it could be done by next year and certainly by 2015.

Love Charlottesville. If they had the courts, the city would be a great place to host.

Didn't Wake Forest build an NCAA-worthy facility?

NCAA tennis hosting has always been a limited group of locations for the most part. I loved attending in Champaign this year because I live close, so I hope they get it again. But, it looks like the hosting pool is about to get bigger.

And, also, just because a school hosts doesn't mean that it will take the same regular place in the cycle as a more established host. For example, Champaign (U of Illinois) established itself as a viable host. I'm sure they could get the tournament again if they want it. But, they're not going to get it as often as a Georgia or Stanford. So, it could go back to Georgia twice or three times before coming around to Champaign again.

Georgia, Stanford, Tulsa, A&M, Illinois are the established hosting schools (am I missing something.

But, we could see UVA, Wake Forest, Rice (is their new place going to be NCAA specs?) come into the mix. I always wondered why no SoCal school hosts. Does the NCAA want an on-campus facility?

Despite previously living in SoCal I never visited UCLA, have they not hosted pro tournaments there before? Cant they handle the NCAA champs?
