Where is Fernando Verdasco?

I haven't seen him play in ages, I can't actually remember seeing him play since 2019. I've checked his ranking and it's currently 71st. I'm wondering if this is his last season, he turns 38 in the fall. His fearhand will forever be remembered by us tennis fans.

Shame he couldn't do more with it. He's won 7 titles with only 1 (2010 Barcelona) above 250 level. The highlight of his career was his epic semi-final battle with Nadal at 2009 Australian Open when he was a top 10 player (ranked as high as #7) and many tennis commentators thought he was about to join the then Big 4 (Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray) to make a Big 5 but it never transpired. He seemed to fizzle out after that with just occasional flashes of his best form (he had another memorable quarter-final battle with Murray at 2013 Wimbledon. As at 2009 AO, he lost out to the eventual champion).

Undoubtedly one of the biggest ever under-achievers in men's tennis.

This is just equating a players ability with his hottest streak, which makes no real sense. Was Verdasco mentally weak? Yes, more so than most with his ability, but mental weakness doesn't make players more talented.

The foundation of a top 5 game wasn't there. Liable serve, unspectacular return, no special movement. But could be imposing on hot streak cause he's a really powerful guy, but he never systematically used those weapons much. Even his forehand was all hype no hope.

Semi-retired? He's of age and he's got a great life for a man in his mid 30s.
