Many seem to think that Murray will win his first Slam in 2012. If so, which do you think it will be and why?

I am pretty sure it will not beWimbledon because of the pressuere. Ao most probably because US open has the atmosphere which is crazy and Muzzy is prone to choking in those situations. I still do not want to believe he'll not win a slam, cmon he's twice the talent Henman was, and everyone thought Timmy will win a slam eventually.

I knew Henman would never win a slam, but he only had one shot each year - Wimbledon. Murray could win either the AO or USO or maybe even Wimbledon. But I dunno if he will ever win one. I had a dream he won this AO in straights, I think he beat Federer. Wouldn't like that to be true

I'd say Wimbledon too. Djokovic will be a problem for him, and Nadal always is trouble. If Nadal doesn't get back to his best by then, I can see it happening for Murray.

He's got a good shot at both hardcourt grand slams. However, I think the surface at the USO suits him better, because he doesn't hit through as easily as the other big three. At the AO, he has to generate more pace of his own, which he has trouble doing. So USO based on surface, but stadium and hype don't suit him. Also, most of the big hitters are in prime form. He lost there to Cilic and Wawrinka before, so I'm going with this AO after all IF he wins a grandslam in 2012.

If he is really goes full bore with what Lendl tries to teach him and is truly inspired he may get it done at Wimbeldon this year. More realistically, I believe it's going to take a year or so for Lendl to beat the spoiled brat out of Murray and get him to develop a weapon then alter his playing style. If I had to put money on it I'd say Australian Open 2013

Hard to say. He has a reasonable chance at 3 of the 4.

Australian Open- Djokovic is very hard to beat here. Nadal and Federer also like this surface. So it will be hard for him to win but he has made the final twice so it has been his best slam surface.

French Open- He will never win the French barring a major upset, or futher massive improvements in his clay game.

Wimbledon- The competition is weaker here. Federer surprisignly isnt a good grass court player anymore, Djokovic's worst surface is still grass. Nadal is probably his toughest obstacle here, but Nadal is on slight decline and isnt untouchable here like on clay, although he has never lost to Murray on a natural surface. The hardest obstacle here is the home pressure. Berdych and Tsonga are also very dangerous here.

U.S Open- A good chance here. Lots of strong forces here although nobody has dominated the U.S Open in recent years with 4 different winners the last 4 years.

I voted the U.S Open. Putting it all together it seems most likely. Could happen at any of the 3 non French slams though.

I never thought Henman would win a slam and would have been surprised if he had. He only had 1 slam he was a contender to win and there were bigger fish there than he. I remember thinking at the time of Wimbledon 2001 that was his best chance. He should have beaten him pigeon Ivanisevic in the semis (I am glad as heck he didnt and that Ivanisevic won Wimbledon that year mind you) and was hurt by the rain delay bigtime, however I would have given him little chance against Rafter in the final even if he had won. Rafter is basically a better version of Henman's game. Wimbledon 2002 some thought he had a shot but he wasnt even in good form there and I always knew Hewitt would dismantle him badly in the semis since he is Hewitt's beetch.

I don't see him beating 2 of the top 3 at the AO. There would have to be an upset earlier.

Logic says AO, the slam where he's had the best record so far but Agassi winning W first and Djoko winning W last year tells me logic doesn't always work in tennis!!

Fo. The weak second serve and defensive game are a good match for clay.

When WILL Murray win his first slam!
Just like picking plums from a tree.
Only three of the greatest players in the history of the game in front of him and some dangerous opponents behind.
This sort of talk is very premature.
The first slam is the hardest and chances are he may never win one.

Yeah, the French is very unlikely. He did improve on clay quite a bit last year though, he should of beaten Djokovic in Rome, pushed Nadal hard in Monte Carlo before he injured his arm, then made the semis for the first time. I think the other 3 are just too good on clay for him though.

As for Wimbledon, I agree. I think he would beat Federer on the surface these days, Djokovic would be an interesting match up, whilst Nadal has always caused him problems on grass for some reason. Berdych could also be a problem, as he is on any surface for Murray. I don't think Tsonga is too much of a concern though, they've met on grass a few times over the last few years and Murray seems to have that one covered. I also don't believe the pressure is on him as much as it's made out to be, I don't think he feels it that much either. Henman had it for sure, but Murray is a totally different personality and I think he quite likes it. He says he enjoys being able to stay in his own home, which I think helps.

I think the Australian Open or Wimbledon are the most likely. For some reason I don't fancy him at the US Open, there's a big lead up to it with all the North America hard court tournaments and alot of players are usually in good form by then. There are too many contenders for that one to make it a likely place for him to win imo.

JMac has predicted several times that Murray will win his first slam at the USO. So who knows?

Yeah, New York suits his personality and the court matches his game very well, so it's a reasonable prediction for him to make.

For some reason I don't see it happening there. Maybe it has something to do with all the rain there over the recent past. I think Murray is a player who needs rhythm, whilst the rest of the big 3 seem to be able to turn it on when needed. That goes against Murray, then you have the dangerous big hitters he struggles against, on the quickest court of all the majors, who are usually in form after a summer of hard court warm ups etc.. He's also had some bad scheduling the last few years. Those are things that make me think the US Open might not be the one.
