It is pretty clear by now Djokovic is the HEAVY favorite for the U.S Open. And it would be a big surprise if he doesnt finally win it this year. Who do you believe has the best chance to beat Djokovic at the U.S Open. Note I said only to beat Djokovic, I dont mean neccessarily who has the best chance to win the U.S Open other than Djokovic.

I fully expect Djokovic to win this years U.S Open and will be surprised if he doesnt. However if I have to pick who has the best chance to beat him I will guess Del Potro or Federer. Cant see Nadal beating him on fast hard courts when he cant beat him on clay or grass right now. No way.

Federer followed by Del Potro and Murray.

Federer has beaten Djokovic three of four times in the USOPEN and in his only loss He had two match points.

OP is this a trick question? I think the answer is obvious: Del Potro.

That is not to say Delpo will definitely beat Novak. But barring a freak upset, if Novak does NOT win the UsOpen, it will be because he lost to the Argentine.

It cannot be Murray, Federer or Nadal - unless those guys play the match of their lives.

Where as Delpo has the firepower and the mental strength to close the deal. Bear in mind, he hadn't fully hit his stride when they met in Roland Garros. After the hardcourt swing, with his firepower he might very hard to beat..

Overall, Djokovic is a very big favorite, and at this point I can see him winning the UsOpen. And if not him, then it will be the tower of Tandil..

After the form Rafa showed last year, I would say that Rafa is the HEAVY favorite for the US open.

It depends more on the King, if the King shows up then I'm afraid no one stands a chance. Let's say the King has an off day. This will close the gap between them (assuming Federer and Murray play above their average level) and give opportunities to Murray and Federer. Unlike Murray, Federer needs to be top of his game and pray for some luck.
Murray seems to be a bigger threat, take a look at Rome semis for example. Federer doesn't deserve the credit he's getting at the moment, simply because the King wasn't at his very best. Murray on the other hand faced an inform King and pushed him to his limits. Nadal is a different story, he doesn't stand any chance, no matter what situation or condition the King is in, Nadal will never prevail.

Here is a my top list with players who might cause the upset.

1. Murray
2. Federer
3. Del Potro

- Huge gap

4. Tsonga

- small gap

5. Nadal

If Nadal get's the serve back that he had last US Open, then he has a good chance. I think if Murray plays him before the final he would also have a shot. The rest I can't see beating Djokovic at the moment, maybe if he runs out of gas after his huge first half of the year they might, but I can't see that happening at the moment.

Federer if he shows up and doesn't blow leads like he normally has been doing. He's the only player with the combination of a great serve, variety, and great offense to keep Djokovic honest during the rallies.


The reason is because Federer can attack the net, has a big forehand, has the dropshot, the junk slice, and a few other tricky shots that Djokovic doesn't like to deal with. There are basically no players on the tour right now that can do that.


Outside of Federer your best bet would be picking like someone like Del Potro, Roddick, or some dangerous floater around the 20s to 30s with a big serve.

Murray or Federer. Nadal doesn't have a prayer and Del Potro doesn't have enough margins on his shots to handle Djokovic's firepower.

Delpo hits hard, but its nothing that nole can't handle. Delpo doesn't hit close to the lines as much, he just aims big in a direction.

Gonna go with Fed. Joker loves rhythmic players if Fed realizes that and throws in those short slices and such I'd say he has the best chance...

If Fed could beat Nole on his worst surface at the french, im sure USO hardcourts would suit him a lot more. althought fed has lost to djoker a few times this year, the guy is simply on fire and has now beaten nadal 5 times. at least fed was able to stop that losing streak and on a surface where most people would count him on given the high bounces and physical nature of long rallies. we're talking pretty much a 30yo fed with a one handed back beating someone whos playng crazy this whole year and taking it to nadal.

right now nole to me is the best defender on the court based on the way he gets to the balls and is still have to get it back with authority. you're going to need someone who has the best offense to put his lights out.

Definitely Fed. Also, Delpo is always a huge threat and maybe the only player atm who can hit through the court with so much pace to bother Nole's defense.

Del Potro and Federer.

Del Potro because he is that good on hard courts and Federer because he is the only guy that can stay on offensive with Djokovic and mix pace thus cancelling most of Djokovic's physical advantages. If playing well...of course.

Berdych and Soderling can hit through the court but they don't move and return serve well enough to pose any problems.

Of the five times Novak lost after the U.S. Open last year, weren't four of the losses been against Federer? The last time Novak lost was against Fed and the previous loss before that was to Fed at the year-end championships (the last time he was really crushed). I see no reason to bet against that happening again.

I don't know about Delpo, sure if he comes back to 2009 USO form he's a contender but Novak likes pace, defends amazing well this day and is very good at changing direction of the ball and moving people around and Delpo's a big guy(although an excellent mover for his size).

If Nadal improves his serve, he has a chance to beat Novak.He needs to win cheaper points on it.It seems like every serve he hits down the middle.

I agree, though you saw that Juan was able to take a set of Nole at RG on clay.
Imagine what he would do on fast HC.
On fast HC at USO I see Juan as the superior player.
The problem is, that he could break down if he gets inpatient.

Either JW or Fed. Of course, they will make certain to place Fed with Djok in the SF. This time, they wouldn't make the mistake of putting Tsonga with Fed in the QF. Wouldn't want another "accident" to upset things. Djok should be getting Tsonga in the QF.

Del Potro if he's back in tip top form. Otherwise Federer. After that, Nadal.

I wouldn't say "heavy favorite" just yet. At the moment he is a favorite but let's see how he does in the tournaments from now until the US Open. If it is anything like his recent play, then sure, he'll be a heavy favorite.

There are three varieties of people that can beat/upset Djoker right now.
1.) Players who have complete game, have basic offensive mindset to finish points, have strong serves and have variety of the highest quality. Only Roger Federer fits this bill.
2.) A huge server (somebody like John Isner) having a monstrous serving day when he hardly misses first serves.
3.) Players with killer forehand that can just murder the points right under Djoker's nose. Del Potro is the guy who fits this.

nah, outright rigging means a degree of control over the result which they don't have nor desire because attempting it would make themselves look ridiculous anyway. However, a little gentle massaging of the seedings will suffice and go a long way. I'm sure though that it is otherwise all completely upright, straightforward, honest and fair.

Fed, he is 3-1 against Djokvoic at the USO and in the one he lost he had two MPs. Djokovic should be more confident this year but Fed can beat him with the right execution.

If Joker plays like he's been playing all year, no one will. He has no holes. He's not missing at all on the forehand and backhand. His serve is clutch and his movement is better than ever. Really tough combo to beat. Unless he comes down to earth from this ridiculous form he's in, nobody's gonna do it.

well now that hes world number one djokovic will want to retain that title for as long as he can, and considering that he has been as consistent as federer and nadal when it comes to being in form, i dont think djokovic will fall down after this. he is a new and improved player and if he does everything well he will probably win the us open.

when it comes to his biggest challenger, i would have said federer if i wasnt dissapointed by all the choking and just horrible events fed has gone through the last 2 years, i dont think he can do it anymore, and if anyone i think del potro can beat djoker if he is close to what he once was.

he has to be careful of nadal though..

more realistically del potro has the best chance
