who do you guys think is the best player not to win a grand slam yet, and or big tournaments such as masters series.
I think Henman could've easily won at least 1 grand slam and more than just 1 masters series event

Definitely Tim Henman, considering hes 4 wimby semis and currently riding high at no 5 in the world. Slightly underachieved at grand slam level.

Tommy Haas also had the talent to win a slam prior to hes injury, he was world no 2 and a real force on hard courts.

If we're including women here too then I'd say Kim Clijsters.

No doubt. Two finals and two semi-finals in the slams in 03' followed by another finals at the 04' AO before going down with injuries. I think she'll get a slam victory eventually, possibly this year the way she's been playing.

Mary Jo Fernandez, Kim Clijsters, Mauresmo(who will never win one now since she is being passed by many others and is no longer a threat), Dementieva, Coria(I think he blew his only chance), Philipoussis.

driger, I htink 95% of the people on this board use the term Grand Slam to mean 1 Slam event, which I assume is the meaning used by the originator of this thread because he said Henman, and others who said Fernandez, Mauresmo, Pioline, Philipousis, Coria none of whom could have won a GRAND SLAM (4 in a year)

Yes, it's almost always obvious by context.

MaliVai Washington. He could never get overthat hump. Knee surgery did not help either. Plus, he was in the generation with Sampras, Agassi, and Courier.

Mecir, Corretja, possibly Henman.

You must be jesting with Washington. What else did he do apart from Wimbledon 96 final?

MaliVai Washington. Great call Smasher. I agree totally. With Agassi, Sampras, and Courier dominating, he held his own until injuries slowed him down.

He would have won the in 96 but the streaker disturbed all focus on the match.

He also never really threatened to win one, I am pretty sure he never made top 10, and he only made it to QF or better of a slam once in his career. It's ridiculous to compare him to multi-GS finalists like Martin, Pioline and Corretja.

I'll say Cedric Pioline and at the moment Kim Clisjters & Mauresmo.

Driger, I thought that's what the topic was about until I clicked it and read that the original poster was asking about slams and not necessarily a grand slam. I'd have to agree with Clijsters.

Both men have been mentioned above:

#1. Todd Martin
> 2 GS Finals-Aussie Open*, US Open
> titles 8
> highest rank: 4

#2. Cedric Pioline
> 2 GS Finals-US Open, Wimbledon
> titles 5
> highest rank: 5

*nice catch, rhubarb, thanks

Definitely Sukova for me. She played Martina and Chris tough even in their primes, and came up with a few big wins over them in grand slams. Unfortunately she had to beat more than one to win a grand slam, and it was always a bit much for her. She was a solid top 5/6 player for so long. She never beat Graf or Seles, but had a great chance vs Steffi in the 90 AO semis, where she lost 6-4 in the 3rd, she could have won that particular match but tightened up just at the end, that was her best chance.

For the men I would say Tommy Haas since he was becoming a very strong contender in 2001-2002 before all the injuries. He also would have won the 2002 AO Open if he wasnt worn out from such a tough draw, and had an injured shoulder in the semis when he was leading Safin.

Yeah Rios is unfortunate not to win a slam as well. In 98 he failed to win one despite 2 great chances, at the AO and the French. He was supposed to be a contender at the U.S open but bombed early to dangerous Larsson. He had to deal with too many injuries after that, he never was a serious contender after that.

Álex Corretja

And Haas and Henman for current. Maybe Coria, he should have won Roland Garros last year.
