Who would have played better than Medvedev at the Final?

Thiem or Tsitsipas.

I think Thiem could have taken a set. I think Tsitsipas would have lost in 3, but all 3 sets would have been really competitive.

As a Djokovic fan, I preferred Nadal in the final, so I think Nadal would have been beaten similar to 2019.

Honestly Djokovics level wasn't that flattering in the final.

What could he have done significantly better? He hit his spots on his serve (especially on big points), returned beautifully (especially on big points), got to net when needed, controlled the center of the court, changed pace with timely backhand slices, hit with consistent depth, picked his spots to attack wisely, limited errors, etc.

He's not going to slap 60 winners against Medvedev. That's precisely what Daniil wants his opponents to try doing...

His serving was extremely impressive that I'll give him. Just don't think by any means he couldn't have been beaten at this AO. That said, his serving if he can keep it up might win him a couple more slams bc it's certainly gotten him out of all the tight spots he needed it to

Honestly Novak’s semi vs Karatsev was more challenging. Novak was playing most rallies from 2-4m behind the baseline and Karatsev had him in all sorts of trouble.

K’s problems were too many errors mainly, coming from a lack of tactical awareness to better use Novak’s positional problems with variety (or at least the threat of it) to win the point.

I have more optimism in Karatsev’s future vs Novak than Med’s frankly, and by quite some margin. Med needs to work A LOT on his FH CC, approach and net game

Rafa would have at least taken a set. Thiemster too.
We would even take Tsitsitsipas and Kyrgios over Medvedev.
Given the thrashing Nadal gave Djokovic in Paris he may have beat Djokovic in a similar vein to W 2008. Federer said the hammering he took affected him at W.
That being said the turnaround was far quicker in 2008. 3 weeks not 3 months .
Medvedev made a crucial error not making it physically draining. He got frustrated and imploded. If the first two sets had lasted over over 2 hours he would have still been in it.
Tsitsipas would have been hammered by Djokovic. Dimitrov may have troubled him a little

We all agree that any number of players would have been at least more entertaining to watch.

Don't see how anyone could be a Medeved supporter after this pitiful performance.

Medvedev was playing just fine until Djokovic ramped up the intensity at the end of the first set, that impacted his second and third set performances. It wasn't like Medvedev was playing that badly, he just couldn't recover after dropping that first set in that fashion when I am sure he had one eye on the tie break.

Who could have played better? I think Tsitsi could have played better, not sure about Thiem though, these conditions were not exactly complimentary to his game.
