who would rather avoid who at the french open?

Between djokovic and nadal?

I know it may seem a silly question, im not asking who is the favourite to win the french as nadal obviously despite some people saying. There is a good chance they may get drawn in the same half as each other and it always seems to me that djokovic is more chilled about facing nadal than nadal is about facing djokovic so aside from the fact nadal is a better clay court player and is unbeaten against novak at the french but who would rather avoid who?

Djokovic would rather avoid Nadal I think After all, his losses to him in RG has probably done bad things to his confidence. Going up against nadal in RG you know you will have to be on the court for atleast 4-5 hours if you want to beat him. Thats tough.

IF he were to choose of course, but there isn't such things.

This is a silly question, isn't it?

Nadal has lost one match at the French in 67 matches. He probably won't care where he's drawn.

Novak wants to avoid Nadal before the Final because if he beats Rafa everyone else will be extra motivated to beat him (ie: Fed).

But in the end, I have no doubt Djokovic has the capacity to beat Nadal in his home, and knows it himself also. We saw that in 2013.

That has too weigh in too.

The answer is pretty clear.

Funny to see old Fed still able to strike fear

Don't worry. Fed cannot win 7 Matches at RG

I hope they play in the QF. Cannot wait for that block buster.

Hopefully Berrer does not spoil the party.

Me too. I hope Nadal falls enough in ranking for that to be possible. Very doable if Murray and Kei play well next few months.

Roland Garros
Nadal vs Djokovic

6-0

Unless Nadal is not fully fit, it's a no contest. Djokovic has only taken Nadal to 5 sets at RG once and 4 sets once. Nadal has beaten him in straight sets 4 times.

Between Novak, Gulbis or Isner who would you prefer as a QF opponent for Rafa ?

And Federer knows that from his own experience. When Soderling beat Nadal at the 2009 French Open in the Round of 16, Federer was suddenly under enormous pressure. The same thing happened to Chang at the 1997 US Open when Sampras was beaten by Korda in the Round of 16.

The surest money in the business. Easy fan life! Such a trustworthy boy, that Nadal, providing he makes it to the semis.

It must feel so so good.

It's more of a sure bet than anything else in tennis has been. Nadal's 66-1 record and 9 title wins, is unparalleled in men's tennis, especially when the other player being touted has been beaten 6 times by Nadal at the event and won just 4 sets against Nadal in total throughout those 6 matches.

You don't play tennis by trash-talking and making bold statements. On clay in particular, it's very hard to just get momentum and use that to the end. There are a lot of ups and downs in clay-court matches. Nadal does better when he's going through a down.

Nadal has an incredible 66-1 record at Roland Garros and Djokovic added: "I wasn't too far from winning a title both times when I lost to Rafa but it's a grand slam on the slowest surface that is physically the most demanding one.

That's something that makes it more difficult in terms of winning against Nadal, he has lost only one match in his entire career which is probably the most impressive record in tennis history of all time."

"I believe they (Federer and Nadal) made me a better player and also Andy; they made me understand what I need to do to improve my game to get on the level where they are."

Take the 2014 French Open final, Djokovic played extremely well in the first 2 sets. However, it was 1 set all at the end of the second set. Nadal had not played like he could, and was now getting into a groove. Djokovic was annoyed that he wasn't 2 sets up, and realised how much hard, physical work was still left to do, and had a letdown in the third set. Nadal exploited that. If Djokovic is not prepared to stay out there all day, through all the highs and lows of the match, he won't win.

At the French Open, it's less of a fist fight (like grass) or a short battle (like hardcourt) and more like a long war with long term strategy (clay).

Neither would like to face the other, obviously. But I get the feeling Djokovic has resigned himself to having to face Nadal to win the French Open, and is pretty chill about it. Nadal, seemingly, hasn't.

But he is still behind Fedovic. Nadal should be proud of a pointless h2h LOL, thats his life line in the GOAT discussion.

Injury
.....................

Interesting how Rafa's injuries tend to occur outside of clay season, where he more vulnerable :???:

H2H vs Fed: 23-10; 10-8 outside of clay (4-2 in Slams)
H2H vs Djokovic: 23-19; 9-15 outside of clay (3-3 in Slams)

Interesting, isn't it?

He keeps saying he doesn't want to face Djokovic.

He doesn't naturally. But Djokovic doesn't want to face Nadal either, I assure you. But he has probably come to terms with the near inevitability of having to go through him (and surely the same for Nadal to a large degree).

It's something magical about this rafa.. it's like he is able to choose what he wants.

Do you people think Nadal is avoiding players outside clay to protect his h2h?

shoko wants to avoid the testers and those bizarre side effects that we saw at the AO final, or suddenly dropping dead as a side effect.

Nadal will fear no man. Novak will hope to avoid any situation that rouses the Paris crowd against him.

Are you referring to the Nadal who won the Nth American swing on h/c beating Djoker in Montreal and the USO? Also the same Nadal who has beaten Fed 3 times at the AO and Djoker twice at the USO?

Rafa was injured during the whole of the clay season last year with his back. He had knee issues in 2009 and 2012 during RG.

Novak gets down very easily with the crowd, esp being no1 he wants more love while Nadal is a little like Hewitt when the crowd is against him.
