Why Carpet Courts Were Perma Banned

Wow, how is it not illegal to tailor a whole tournament just so that one player can be guaranteed to win it?

This really calls into question a lot of Federer’s records. Did he really earn them and how much help was he receiving and when?

Also, as we see Federer was not a master of fast courts or S&V play style as his fans would beg you to believe. It would seem that slower lower courts were Federer’s true preference.

I would be very hesitant to believe anything that this channel claims.

By the late 2000s carpet courts had fallen out of popularity and were being used less and less often (as metsman pointed out.)

They were really a throwback to a much earlier time (1960s & 70s) back when players would serve & volley to win titles.

I don't believe that Federer convinced the ATP tournament organizers to get rid of them.

Have to get something off my chest here, when I was first learning about tennis and hadn't ever watched indoor carpet matches.

I thought tennis carpet was the same as more commonly used carpet, like home decor fabric carpet in my living room. This was around 2009 or something.

Obviously the use of video immediately cleared this up but for a good 2-3 years I believed tennis was at one point played on this:

I thought there where also 250 or lower Tourneys on crushed sea shells, which is basically limestone or calcium.

Personally I seperate carpet and synthetic grass. Carpet is loop pile like house carpet , synthetic grass is plastic grass. They play different. I get you can get high pile carpet but synthetic grass is fake grass, carpet looks nothing like grass.

I used to play on indoor carpet court. The fastest and lowest bounce I have ever experienced. I also hurt my knees and ankles due to the insane grip. I played recently on artificial grass. I was expecting carpet like characteristics but the bounce was very high and often unpredictable. There was much less grip so my joints were fine.
