Why do people praise Federer for his variety if he never hits flat?

The fact that you put "watch" along with "play" tells a lot how little you must know about tennis, since watching it doesn't tell you anything about how the sport is played really

Imagine if someone unironically posted this on a thread where the OP made a judgement about a professional player after claiming to have watched him play...

Charlie from Flowers for Algernon has more intelligence.

Your reasoning is faulty but i'm too tired to explain why

Federer rarely hits very flat but he has a good variation of spins and shot placement on both wings, as well as going to the net often and playing drop shots

Federer's gameplan - forehand forehand forehand topspin topspin topspin to one corner to antoher, get to the net finish the point. Occasionally, when leading 4-1 30-0 he hits a dropshot from the baseline. Best ever forehand and serve technique, but that doesn't mean variety. Outstanding athelte, but that doesnt mean variety. Raw forehand power, but that doesn't mean variety
Until you mentioned this, I hadn't realized what a pathetic player Federer really is. Obviously, he needs to throw in a lot more unnecessary and inappropriate shots (for varietys sake) before I can take him seriously. 3.5 at best.

Federer is a defensive shotmaker.

The only i've seen Federer hit a flat shot regularly is when returning a first flat serve serve with his forehand - he blocks it back flat with his abbreviarted forehand motion and it travels a bit slowly

Here’s an attempt to thin down the very obese part of your anatomy:

1. NOBODY Intentionally hits a truly flat ball EVER. Physics rewards players who master spin (please review Bill Tilden’s Match Play & The Spin Of The Ball before further embarrassing your obese cranium!).

Should you review the GOAT tome of instruction after this advice, you will actually qualify for informed discussion of tennis tactics and we will pay attention to your posts instead of FLAT OUT ridiculing you for your obnoxious trolling.

Bother to explain why? Or you can only sh*t?
Here’s visual proof that fedr, using the “child molester’s” knowledge of physics, can hit winners with spin-controlled aggression:

There is no physical way to hit a flat ball for a winner. You obviously don’t play tennis if you believe differently. It’s either in the net or 20 feet past the baseline.

How’s that for Sh11t, huh, you fuquing troll???

He's right partially (even in the case he was trolling or whatnot), Fed is indeed a great defensive shotmaker despite his overall offensively minded baseline/all-court game.

Sure, he is great in many facets of the game. That doesn't make him that, though.

What's this then? How many RPM you reckon on this backhand? Answer is 0.He hits many 0 RPM slower backhands in matches but they aren't winners so they are harder to find. Please leave this thread, you've embarrassed yourself
No, I have pointed out your obvious lack of understanding of the physics of tennis but I won’t ask you to leave the forum. We need mindless idiots such as yourself to give us a comedic break from these difficult times.

dude, if go to second 22-23 of the video, put it on pause, and then go frame by frame using your keyboard keys: "," "." you might notice how the ball rotates through the air.
then you need to estimate the range of rotations per second, as unfortunately the video is not of great enough quality to make a precise calculation.
then you need to multiply that by 60, as there are 60 seconds per one minute.
and you will come with the RPM that Andy placed in that shot.

and believe me, the number will greatly exceed zero.
