Why do people underestimate Delpo?

People keep thinking the USO Final will be a walkover for Federer. But Del Potro has beaten Nadal 3 times this year, including here at the USO. He has also taken Federer to 5 sets at the F.O., including winning the opening 2 sets.

He's seeded 6th in the USO and 5th in the world.

It's no picnic out there for Federer, trust me. Delpo is on fire. If Federer wins this match, he deserves all the accolades he gets.

Its because he had a very poor start to the year. He was embarresed by Fed at the AO, and lost to coke boy Gasquet. Then he lost early in both San Jose and Memphis, and was routined by Rafa in IW. Even his win over Rafa in Miami wasnt very convincing as Nadal blew a lead.

People underestimate any young, first time grand slam finalist against Federer, as they should. It's not a matter of ability. It's a matter of not succumbing to the big moment, like Djokovic and Murray have.

And for a couple sets that's exactly what happened. Then DelPo caught fire. Federer served like crap, didn't attack DelPo's serve even though he started spinning them in, and began shanking backhands.

Just as I said, you cannot underestimate a player with as many tournament wins as Delpo has this year.

Slam final experience or not, Delpo knows how to play against the top players and has shown that he can win throughout this entire year, INCLUDING the slams.

Sure, Federer more or less handed him the match today due to his erratic play and poor strategy, but Delpo deserved the victory because he hung in there and played his game. Delpo's mental game isn't as fragile as Murray or Djoker and he proved it today.

Yes, any player can have a good day while the other player has a bad day, which is sort of what happened today. But to automatically assume Federer would win was a huge mistake made by a ton of people on this forum.

Because he is not from Europe or US.
