^^^ I was about to say the same thing..........they (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE) always have to play the race card. They can't accept that some people just don't like them, not because they are black, but because they are __(insert reason here)__________.
No, it's not that. It's the fact that some random comments, which you can't even provide articles for, made by the sisters years ago, warrant four threads within one week,
I already provided several quotes by Serena. The fact you chose to ignore them is evidence that most people such as yourself who supports them DON'T want to hear any criticism of them, and enjoys "playing victim" and/or the "race card".
By the way, I'm not your secretary>>> do your own search and you will find plenty of arrogant comments made by them.
THEY ARE ARROGANT! GET OVER IT, STOP POSTING IN THIS THREAD AND YOU WILL SEE HOW QUICKLY IT DISAPPEARS.
It's the fact that some random comments, which you can't even provide articles for, made by the sisters years ago, warrant four threads within one week, while worse comments by other players made during the same time period don't even get a mention. That's called selective bias. For whatever reason, people here are disporportionately targeting the two sisters.
If there were threads asking "Why You Dislike Hingis" then it'd be hard to call foul, but, the current situation is peculiar.
I'm not even debating their so called arrogance anymore. I'm wondering as to why people on a board normally dominated by ATP talk seem to be fixated on them.
they don't give any praise to their opponent if they lose.
Please explain the need to praise someone who just kicked you out of any random tournament--
He doesn't need to explain anything. He answered the question.
That will be his call to make, drakulie.
I don't need facts TROLLERBOY...its my OPINION.
A. No "chip" since I do not fall into the racial group discussed in this thread, so your Sherlock-ing uncovered no mystery.
B. Feeling a wee bit defensive? You must be, because you seem to be the only one posting here (at the moment) for reasons other than the topic. So if trolling exists, you would do well to look in the mirror.
C. As others have pointed out, several anti-Williams threads pop up all around the same, short period of time? If anyone has race on the mind, it must be the members digging up anything to blast a certain tennis family.
Dude...no one said she sucked...no one said they weren't impressed with her tennis game.....maybe you should re-read WHY people dislike the sisters. Nothing to do w/their game...for the most part.
oh yes thanks for pointing it out, its why and not how and its not about tennis either lol
This thread needs to be closed ASAP.
I dislike the Williams´sisters due to her appearance. Specially Serena who seems a boxer. (Too Mauresmo, she is a half man). I don´t watch TV when they play.
Besides, both sisters are arrogants. Example: They challenged to any man between the 200 ATP could not defeat them. They failed happily. One siste lost by 6-0, the other sister lost by 6-1. (I don´t remember the name of the male player).
On the other side, I liked when Serena won Sharapova (really destroyed her). because she was and is the one of the best player of WTA.
Unhappily besides, this demonstrated that the WTA Tour is decaying. Actually, there is not a good level of tennis in WTA.
Saludos
i don't like there complaining, trash talking, and see them as unattractive, but i don't hate them.
I am with you on everything you said....but the sister supporter's basically want proof...the only proof they will accept (from what I gather) is both Venus and Serena will need to call a press confrence and say "We are arrogant" other than that every word, quote and reason we give will not suffice. Its their way of not facing the truth.
wow, since you provided sooo many quotes
the only one that would even make sense is the navratilova one, and even so, thats HER opinion, that doesnt make it true.
the reebok one could be taken different ways, she could have been laughing as she said it, i mean come on that was a bit of a stretch on your part.
like i said before, i'm not denying that there is any trace of arrogance in them, i mean winning a lot of slams and fame does that to you (i.e. federer http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=45667) and yet somehow, that flat out declaration from federer "i'm the favorite against anyone" is only seen as confidence?(as so many in the thread stated.) and yet any quote from a williams is twisted into an arrogant rant, please elaborate on this.
but here everything is taken way too literally, and way exaggerated.
fact of the matter is, you cant truthfully say they never give credit, because there are quotes of them giving credit earlier in this thread. here's a huge one after the wimbledon finals in 2004
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/tennis/wimb/2004-07-03-womens-final_x.htm
""It wasn't my day," a gracious Williams told the Centre Court crowd. "Maria played a really good match. Congratulations on your first Grand Slam."" -serena
and like i also said before, they get 10x as many interviews after matches, and most of the matches they lose are because of THEIR Unforced, not forced, errors, so obviously if they have a ridiculous amoutn of errors, all the other player has to do is show up, but liek the quote above, when theyre really beaten they give it up to their opponent.
lots of players make lame excuses (however htis IS a williams hate thread *rolls eyes*, so i can understand you pointing out them, but how about justine's lame tummy ache, or her mono like virus that somehow put her out for like half a year, i know ppl who have mono it gets better in like a month, should be even faster with her because shes fitter than most ppl i know),
oh and that battle of the sexes thing-NEVER happened
http://newsfromrussia.com/society/2005/12/07/69351_.html
if you could take anything from that situation, you could say that they know they probably can't beat the men, so thats why they backed out.
so basically, what the Williams supporters aren't happy with, is why they are so often singled out, and their quotes are exaggerated, and taken to such crazy lengths, and why people go so far out of their way to hate on them. (i.e. this thread, the serena's right arm is huge thread, serena is getting fatter threads, need i say more?)
please, im waiting to see what you come up with next.
Well said....I agree w/you. I guess some things coming from typed text can be taken out of context. Maybe she was just kidding about the 40 Million. I just disliked them when they first came on the scene. I have softened to Serena, but not Venus. I was disgusted by the way they showed their happiness....I mean Fed does not jump up and down at the trophy presentation like Venus. Fed does say cocky things and yes people give him slack...because he is also respectful and cordial to his peers.
What annoys me on this thread is people trying to make it a race issue...I can't stand Sharapova. I hate her much worse than the sisters. My dislike for the sisters has nothing to do with race. People need to get over that.
but for LOTS of people who have an irrational, persistant dislike of them, race most likely plays a part. The Imus situation is a great example; when he called the Rutgers teams "nappy headed hos" he didn't misspeak, that's what he genuinely thought of when he saw eight athletic black women playing ball, whether subconciously or not. So when people say that the Williams sisters just "rub them the wrong way" while people like Hingis, the other Martina, Henin, etc. don't, there's more than just arrogance going on.
And the Williams sisters ARE respectful and cordial to the peers, ninety percent of the time. In almost a decade of professional tennis, you know of about 12 instances where they came off as anything less than gracious in deafeat or victory, and for some people, that's enough to hate the sisters for the rest of their lives. So be it.
And the Venus thing: are you referring to the Wimbledon trophy presentation in 05? Or is there another instance of her doing that? Because from what I remember, it was Venus' first slam in four years, after being told by the media and sports commentators that'd she'd never win big again, after the longest women's final in Wimbledon history, after being down championship point...
I'd be jumping up and down too.

I'd be jumping up and down too. That was probably one of the best moments of her life. Lindsey didn't mind, the Wimdledon crew didn't mind, but you do? Odd.
With the bolded section, your assertion is ... tautologous.Maybe it isn't a race issue for you, but for LOTS of people who have an irrational, persistant dislike of them, race most likely plays a part.
You have absolutley ZERO insight into (that dope's) mind. Your assertion is without merit. The Imus situation is a great example; when he called the Rutgers teams "nappy headed hos" he didn't misspeak, that's what he genuinely thought of when he saw eight athletic black women playing ball, whether subconciously or not.
And when people order Rye instead of Wheat with their sandwhich, there's "more going on." (IOW ... huh?)So when people say that the Williams sisters just "rub them the wrong way" while people like Hingis, the other Martina, Henin, etc. don't, there's more than just arrogance going on.
Wow! I think you're either uniformed ... or being especially KIND to them. I -- who want to see both girls do really well -- would say they are "respectful and cordial" about 25% of the time. IMO, the other 75% of the time they are "legends in their own minds."And the Williams sisters ARE respectful and cordial to the peers, ninety percent of the time.
I'd reverse that entirely. There are about 12 cases (each) when they were gracious in either defeat or victory. In almost a decade of professional tennis, you know of about 12 instances where they came off as anything less than gracious in deafeat or victory ...
I suppose they do mean that (great) victory. And the Venus thing: are you referring to the Wimbledon trophy presentation in 05?
laurie said:I also forgot Venus v Davenport from this year's Wimbledon final.
______________=Kaptain Karl]Yes! I actually think I would have voted for this one over Federer -vs- Roddick, '04. (How cool! That a Women's Final would be in such good company.)
That has just gotten me grinning from ear to ear for Venus ... again!Because from what I remember, it was Venus' first slam in four years, after being told by the media and sports commentators that'd she'd never win big again, after the longest women's final in Wimbledon history, after being down championship point...
Here, we agree. (But her name is "Lindsay".)I'd be jumping up and down too. That was probably one of the best moments of her life. Lindsey didn't mind, the Wimdledon crew didn't mind, but you do? Odd.
I think when you win so much, you get tired of hearing that champion and want to bash.
Same with people who do not like the New York Yankees or LA Lakers or Dallas Cowboys...etc.
If the wins did not come as often, there would be no bashing, unless it was personal not professional.
^^^ Nope. I don't like them because they are arrogant, not because they are "winning so much". In FACT, I don't see Venus "winning" much lately, so it can't possibly be the reason.
... Why did Davenport not have an issue...because she has class. Lindsay always had it and always will. Evenm though she was roated for years about her body and face. The poor girl took it all and always walked the high road. The Williams family did not such thing. If anything, Richard has made a few rascist remarkes himself.
im pretty sure someone here heard him say "negro", however that was just an example i gave, but like i said, thats a whole other story, which i dont feel like getting into, because neither of us was there(right?), and either of us probably don't know any more about the situation that the other, so i don't wanna go there...As for that "heckler" a few weeks past. Other people sitting within feet from him claim he did not make a rascist remark and was basically just taunting her and calling her stupid names like "outta shape" and "loser"...nothing rascist.
im pretty sure someone here heard him say "negro"
It was brought up in a post match interview, serena made no mention of the comment until a reporter asked her.
No one besides serena heard the racial comment, they did however hear everything else he was saying (the members of this forum who were at the match).
Because he was calling balls in and out, and calling footfaults on serena (major disruption of play if you read the article). He was also personally insulting her by calling her fat and lazy.
To the original question, why do you hate the Williams Sisters?
1. Because they're rich and famous.
2. Because they get more attention than their fair haired counterparts.
3. Because they are touted as all-time greats.
4. Because their rise has been so remarkable.
5. Because they are ratings winners.
6. Because they are beautiful.
7. Because whenever they're around the talk is all about them.
8. Because they shut up the doubters mouths time and time again.
9. Because of what they've done they never have to hit another yellow ball.
10. Because they're international tennis stars.
11. Because tennis isn't their whole life and they dare to have other interests.
12. Because they are gracious and kind.
13. Because they also know how good they are.
These are some of the real reasons. Come on, admit it!
