Will there be a permanent asterisk on Andy Murray's Wimbledon title?

Nothing against Murray and his opportunistic wins, least he wins them. I just hate seeing the repetition of favorable draws for Nadal/Murray respectively. Its getting old, and Novak seems to be laying over so to speak, def has not played Murray with the same intensity as Fedal.... Whatever.

Whatever indeed. You'll excuse my tuning you out at this point, not least since the fact that Rafa won Indian Wells, which is a hard court tournament, this past year appears to have slipped your mind.

So you're willing to put a permanent asterisk on Murray's Wimbledon title, but not one on Federer's Roland Garros 2009 victory, where he faced exhausted Soderling in the final?

clueless, the fed-delpo semi was after the soderling-gonzo semi and both were intense 5-setters.

soderling was no more exhausted than federer was in the semi stage.

Seriously, this kind of thread destroys the credibility not only of the OP but the forum as well. All I see are rampant threads of diminishing the accomplishments of players who recently won a slam in order to further their agenda.

We all have our favorite players and we want them to win all the time but give where credit is due.

10 years down the line, poeple will remember only the winner and not the who the runner up faced leading up to the final.

Credit to where it is due. Murray outplayed Djokovic.

No!

No there won't be because everyone will have forgotten who lost in the final.

They will only remember who won:

2013 A. Murray

No, as I said "earns"... Just like the other matches, playing someone who beat the 2 best harcourters over 6 sets and almost losing in 2 in the final is not "earning" a title. He merely outlasted an exhausted player with a draw 5x harder, who did he play? Broke back Fed and ???

He faced a tired, out of form Djokovic who had been exhausted by Del Potro and was therefore not able to play to his full ability. Had he played a fit Djokovic he would have had his whiny *** whipped (See AO2013 final for more information).

He did not have to face the humongous challenge that is Fedal; one player past his prime and the other injured and ready for retirement, and two players who have a 100% record against him at SW19. What is a wimbledon campaign without facing a legend and nadal?

His semi-final opponent was a man who had been ranked 221st in the world this time last year, and who was overcome with nerves during the match. And the fact he was pushed to 5 sets by a nobody shows what could have happened if he had met anyone at least half-decent on his route to the final.

The real fact is that Andy Murray got extremely lucky, and although has a Wimbledon title to his name earned it through a massive chunk of good fortune. To the wider tennis world it seems pretty apparent that there will be a permanent asterik beside the Wimbledon title of Andy Murray.

* ?

Murray has made semifinals in 2009, 2010, and 2011 and has made finals in 2012 and 2013 (finally winning). He's been the most consistent grass court player of the big 4 and hasn't lost to anyone outside of the legends at Wimbledon.
Nadal and Federer meanwhile are getting wiped off the court by guys outside the top 100. Murray would never lose to guys like Stakhovsky, Darcis and Rosol.

The "Djokovic was tired" thing is stupid, not Murray's fault it took him 5 hours to beat Del Potro, its his.

Well done Murray!

Djokovic may have gotten lucky at AO 2012 final because Federer took the juice out of Murray over 5 intense sets in the semifinals. Djokovic played a blister-plagued and tired Murray.

I'm amazed Tennis Warehouse allow their forum to be clogged up by idiotic threads like this. Don't they realise how badly it reflects on them? They are trying to sell tennis gear, mainly endorsed by the pros who continue to get ****ged off by trolls on here.

I certainly wouldn't buy from them if I happened to stumble across this before reaching the checkout.

No grand slam victory is marked by an asterix.

Nobody cares apart from the other pathetic pre-pubescent acne ridden trolls on this tennis forum, who obsess endlessly about any silly details that their underdeveloped infantile minds can excitedly come up with which only serve to bore the pants off the rest of us.

Of course. It will say words to the effect that he is the first British champion on the men's side since Perry, 77 years earlier.

That he trounced the #1 player in the world in the finals is icing on the cake.

Andy Murray wanted so bad to win and so did everyone else in centre court, including N. Djokovic shameful I find it hard to cheer for this man in future he has gone way down in my estimations and should never be mentioned in the same breath as fedal.

That is true but it was payback for USO 2012 when a fresh Murray defeated a knackered Djoko with impossible schedule. So they're even on hard. They may get even on grass if Murray gets Delpo in his half next year. The guy is really frantically trying to break through on grass. Murray has avoided him so far, let's see how he will enjoy the challenge...

What impossible schedule? His semi with Ferrer was postponed because of a hurricane after he went a set down. He came back the following day and polished off Ferrer in no time. Murray actually spent more time on court from start to finish at that USO and had far tougher matches than did Djokovic!
Same at this year's Wimbledon actually!
