Both. Federer played a lot better in 2014 IMO and Djokovic raised his game a touch this year.

Think Fed played better in 2014. This year he really looked like he was up against it. Even if he won the first set and been 2 sets up i would still have had my money on Djoko.

Think he only beats Nole in BO3 now.

Federer played his best match in SF in 2015 and sort of went deflated in form after that. What a pity because the Federer which showed up in SF would've given the fans a much better one.

I think in 2014 Federer played a better final, though he missed out on chances in sets 2 & 3 if I remember correctly. He won set 4 with luck (going for hi-risk shot & making them) and a stunning performance giving him a chance for the win in the 5th... I think he held back on the hi-risk shots in the 5th and/or ran out of gas.
In 2015 Federer played an incredible semi-final and somehow did not come to the same level in the final. His serve was not as deadly (but the returner was also not the same). He seemed to be in control after the break in the first only to hand the break right back with an incredibly lousy service game. I think it was the turning point in the match. Djokovic who really managed to peak his level in the final gained back self-confidence after breaking back while Federer lost some of his... Maybe the outcome of the match would not have changed even if Federer had won the first set tiebreaker. But if Federer had managed to hold on to his serve in the first and winning the first set clearly, I think it would have been a very, very different match. The way it went, Federer gave away the momentum and found himself fighting an uphill battle with the wind in his face for the entire remainder of the match after the re-break. It was incredible that he managed to win the 2nd set, but let's be honest: Djokovic should have never, never ever lost that one...

Federer was awful in the 2015 final. The poster above is right in my opinion about the dreadful service game when defending the break in the first set being the turning point. That game was a psychological meltdown from start to finish.

Federer was in much better form coming into the 2015 final. He played near perfect tennis in 6 matches, whereas in 2014 he was helped by a weak draw and Wawrinka's illness. In the final I think Djokovic played much better in 2015 than he did in 2014. In 2014 he was not confident enough. He was not holding any slam at that time and was desperate to win that final. Federer came out playing excellent in the 2015 final but one bad game when he was 4-2 up and some Djokovic brilliance put him on defense and once he lost the first set he was really up against it. Djokovic made him play baseline rallies and there was going to be only one winner then. Federer had to win the first set to have any chance like in 2014.

2014 was higher level of tennis from both men. Perhaps it feels like that because it was closer. It wasn't over till it was over.
Novak played his best match of the tournament in the 2015 final, Federer didn't. The two last sets was an anti climax end of a nice tournament, where Federer stopped attacking Djokovic, leaving Djokovic in a pretty comfy place where hitting back was enough. I think Djokovic could have raised his game even more, if necessary.
I thought it was a passive way to lose from Federer, and I guess it means he didn't believe he could do it. I thought he looked somewhat "out of balance" from early on, not totally sharp in his movement and timing, big contrast from his body language in the semifinal, where he showed the determination which made him #1 for so many years. I think he lost a lot of confidence when he couldn't hold serve to lead 5-2, as pointed out from the poster above.
