in the first vid, it's funny the interviewer asks "is this the start of a new rivalry like pete and andre?"

had this federer guy not come along, these two would be considered two of the greats...

If you watch the tennis channel, there's the top 5 tirades of all time.

During the intro clip there's a player who looks like Thomas Muster that runs

across the net and chases his opponent. Does anyone know who that is?

It's gotta be Jeff Tarango's tantrum against Bruno Rebeuh in his 3rd round match at Wimbledon in 1995.

The McEnroe "You cannot be serious" rant is my all-time favorite. Funny, but not stupidly over-the-top....that rant came during his 81 Wimbledon 1st rd match against Tom Gullickson.

LMAO that was just rude. I've seen it a million times but it never gets old.

That's because he wasn't profane then. Starting in the mid-80's the minute the f-word starting pouring out his mouth the defaults should have started.

Like I said he was amusing and tolerable for a while. Thats why they only show certain tantrums during telecast's he is in the booth for and everyone laughs along.

His mid 80's onwards profanity laced out of control tirades were not cute nor were they the work of someone who cared and was super competitive. I have said this many times Richard Ing should have thrown his ass out of the 1987 US Open match vs Bobo Zivojenivich. I watched that match at my grandmothers house live on CBS as a 14 year old and could not beleive that ugly tirade, some of which the on court mics picked up.

Agree, i think it totally escalated in mid 80`s onward because of his troublesome personal-life dont you think? Being married to tatum o`neal, partying and sniffing coce with hollywod-stars etc...

They escalated because he was losing a lot more and and having trouble with players he would have dusted off prior to 1986.

Hahaha. Great stuff from Roddick there.

Yes that's classic, especially when his wife slaps the umpire.

But this I believe is on a hard court, it's hilarious, the clip comes right after Mcenroe smashes his water bottles, then goes into the clip where this guy does a full on charge over onto his opponents side of the net and swings his racquet at him.

I am SO SICK of players getting mad when an overrule goes against them on a call on the far side of the court from the umpire.

The umpire is IN A CHAIR ABOVE THE COURT. HE CAN SEE THE WHOLE COURT FINE. There is nowhere were it says umps can only overrule on the lines near the chair. They act like the lines are 200 feet away.

With hawkeye now in place they should take away the overrule because the players just whine and whine about it anyway.

Wow.. Johnny Mac was an arse.. He needed his butt whooped.

SOme people obviously let the publicity go to their head and think they are bigger than the game itself.

Sit down Johnny or go RETIRE. Unreal they still let this clown have a job considering all the crap he has caused in his career

Well, the Roddick vs. Hewitt one was definitely warranted. I was on court during that match, and at that moment. I was a baseline umpire, so not affected by that overrule, but it wasn't fun.

i haven't gone thru all of these vids, but before seeing any of them, I distinctly remember Xavier Malisse's meltdown/retirement as well as Gaston Gaudio's unilateral (one-sided) conversations in Spanish. . . both are absolutely classic. (It helps, of course, if you understand Spanish.)

these two are right up there with the great jmac and even roddick's little episode.

Well yeah...but the reason he did that i think was cuz of his lifestyle,he couldnt fully focus at his tennis.

That's pretty cool.

What is your view (generally speaking) on player tantrums? Have you ever been on the receiving end of one? If so, what can you do? I assume just stay quiet and let the chair handle it.

I believe it is Muster chasing Tim Henman. It looks serious in the clip, but I think it was actually done jokingly after one of the points ended.
