Halep deserves a spot. YE#1 the last two years (I think) and just took Wimbledon.
Osaka, though she's been shaky since the Aussie, has won the last two HC majors.
While Barty deserves strong consideration, I'll still go with Serena, as she is still the biggest name on tour, and the toughest to defeat when on her game. For now.

I think you've got it pretty much spot-on. I was trying to find room for Kvitova, but her best level is probably not quite seen often enough.
Serena has to be there. For all the criticism she has taken since the return she is still the most consistent in majors.
I'm a big Kerber fan, but there is no doubt she has slipped in the last 12 months.
The two I would like to see take the next step are Bencic and Pliskova. I think the margins in Bencic's game are too fine for her to be a consistency machine like Halep, but at her best she can beat anyone because she takes the ball so early. Pliskova has been on the cusp a few times now, and hopefully has another big USO.

It's been nice to see Bencic be a factor again.
If Petra took the AO (same with Pliskova), I'd have her over Osaka in my top 3, but yes, there's so much parity, and also inconsistency right now. I still really like Osaka's talent, and there seem to be several exciting young players heading for the top tier.

It's not difficult to understand, it is impossible.
Because there is no best at the WTA currently. It is chaos in terms of any pecking order. Anyone can beat any player. It is like Wrestlemania without the script.
A case could be made for Osaka because she holds two slams, but in women's tennis winning a slam isn't that much different than winning a Tier 1, so even that doesn't really work.

Unfortunately I think this is an impossible question just because the top WTA players literally change on a minute by minute basis.
I love that Ashleigh Barty is doing more than using just a baseline batting practice style of play, but she didn't look as though she was all-courting so much when she lost last week. I guess I'll vote for her as having the best tactics.

Barty, Halep and Pliskova are my strong top 3.
Barty the RG and Miami champ with a bunch of top 10 wins this year.
Halep, Wimbledon champ and able to take out anyone from Serena to Barty.
The third is a bit tighter but I think I give the edge to Pliskova. She's got three titles this year (Brisbane, Rome & Eastbourne). And at the slams she's gone QF, 3R and 4R.
Part of me wanted to say Serena with her Aus Open QF, Wimbledon final and Rogers Cup final. Another wants to say Andreescu with her Indian Wells and Montreal title but needed to see a bit more. Svitolina was up there too with her Wimbledon SF, San Jose QF, Toronto QF & Cincy 4R

2. Halep- a little shaky this year outside of winning Wimbledon, but always in the mix. A great defensive player who can literally take out anybody. Taking the last couple of years into the equation I've got to list her here

She hasn't won a title since coming back. Thats the main reason I can't put her in the top 3 over any of those 3. They all have majors. Osaka hasn't won anything outside the majors in over a year BUT she has 2 and a victory over Serena at one of them.

For 2019, it's Barty and Halep. Even tho Osaka took AO, she's not been as consistent as the other since then. If we look at the past 12 months, then Naomi is worth a mention with her USO title.
If we consider the past 2+ years, Halep has been the most consistent. (Ditto if we look at the past 5+ years).

Barty looks like a journeywoman to me. Compared to most other no 1s, she seems average. I am amazed she is no 1. Now I am quite certain that about 50 women can become no 1 in the next 5 years.

Look for Kenin , Anisimova, McNalley and Gauff to take over women's tennis to a great degree in the next three years.
As for now, Halep, Barty and want to say Andreescu but will say Osaka only because Andreescu needs a bit more time in the fire.

There isn't a no 1 on the WTA, hasn't been one for years. Whoever the computer decides is no 1 week-for-week bares little relevance.
I'd say Osaka and Andreeeeeescu have been the best young players recently, plus Halep. Perhaps those three, but it's impossible to narrow down women's tennis to just three.
