I actually think Rafa will win the AO and in a bigger shock, Djokovic will win RG.

Bizarre I know, but I just have a feeling

In terms of just logic - I think Rafa’s motivation is at an all time high. He can sniff blood in the water from Fed. He wants this AO. You know what type of game he’ll bring. A loss before the SF would be a shock. Meanwhile Djoker has looked vulnerable.

Regarding RG’20 I just think Rafa is due for a surprising setback/upset at RG. There’s really only 2-3 people capable of such an upset but I predict Djoker surprises everyone with his second RG
Do you normally trust these feelings you have for who wins slams? Do they normally come true? A prophet?

My feeling is more aligned w the odds.

Always wondered how people have these feelings who is going to win. Where they come from and why.

Nadal still hasn't lost before SF of a GS since RG 2018 so I would expect him to make it to the last 4 at least.

Nadal hasn't defeated Fed since 2014 off clay, that will factor into it as well if they meet.
This! And Federer has also shown that playing clay again and even losing there in straight sets doesn’t have an influence for other off-clay matches and the confidence there.

Still of course Rafa can never be underestimated and will have a chance. But Federer is regularly the favourite off-clay from now on.

He'll probably be injured sadly. He hasn't played 3 consecutive HC tournaments in a row without injury since 2017.
The problem with that logic is, Rafa has made the semis or better at his last 7 slam events :)
That is a career best semi-final streak, so clearly his career prior to 2018 is no guide for the future....

It looks like you are trying to predict the future by looking at the past....
The problem with that logic is, according to the past its impossible for Rafa to be on a career-best SF slam streak :)
Clearly Rafa has changed his style of play and his training methods, so the past has no relevance....
Even in 2019 he was injured in IW and Paris despite a very limited schedule.

Not quite at Nadal dominance of FO but agreed overall - Nole very much a heavy favourite....
In fact Djokovic has only won ONE of the last THREE Australian Opens :)
That is disgraceful.
Whereas Rafa has won THREE of the last THREE French Opens.

If fedal meet at 2019 AO (A big if), it'll be yet another loss for Rafa.. book it. Deal with it.

Nah, I’m not booking that.
I’m booking Rafa winning AO, and some plane tickets here and there.

I don't think he can beat Djokovic or Federer at AO, but if these guys lose early, who knows? But then again, Nadal himself may lose early by a younger guy. I think SF/F appearance should be a good result for him, even though winning is possible with some luck.

Well, Novak was the opponent that mattered. So we all saw Rafa's true level.
Depends how you look at it. He played trash in the final regardless of even if he wasn't at 100% throughout the tournament, so the final was a disaster not just on a physical level, but mostly on a mental level. How can you serve well above 60% first serves in every single match but serve under 50% in the final, and lose 1/3 of all points to basic unforced errors?

My point exactly. Guys like Frf, Rafa and Novak should be judged on how they play against each other. If Rafa played a terrible final against Novak, then it means that Rafa wasn't in good form to begin with. And it's not a good look on the Next Gen.

A deep run to at least the semis. I think he’ll make another final though. Depends on Novak I feel. If Novak gets knocked out then Rafa is a big favourite. Novak is slight favourite for tournament and over Rafa but he’s more vulnerable to rest of field than Nadal!

I dont know. I cant say nothing for sure until Novak is around. I wish Nadal would win Wimbledon next year vs Federer. That would be something. That would be the dream final - or a rematch vs Novak.
The Davis Cup version of Nadal though.. ill take it against anyone. Come on Nadal, come back with even a bigger serve and we will crush them all!!!
Davis Cup was best of 3. And he was almost pushed to 3 sets by Shapo and Khach. He'll face higher ranked players in AO which could include any combination of Federer, Thiem, Medvedev, Tsitsipas and Djokovic.

Nadal should lose in the SF if Federer is in his half. But that's very unlikely to happen because Nadal gets cupcake draw like 95% of the time. So we'll have to wait until the final to see him get destroyed by Djokovic 6-2 6-1 6-2.
No, he shouldn't. Nadal leads the H2H over Federer 3-1 at the AO. And Federer has only won 1 Slam match outside grass against Nadal in his whole career.

How ironic would that be?

Nadal achieving 2CGS by beating a guy who denied him this privilege half a decade ago. Nothing could be better.
What are you more hungry for though? Another AO or USO?
Until recently Im just as keen on another USO! Anyway happy with either or both.

Think he will play so much better AO20 than 19. Remember he had a surgery a month prior that one.

If it's Djokovic vs Nadal in the final, I think Nadal loses.
Nadal has the best chance out of everyone else though, including Federer (though it's close).

Another AO of course. Nadal deserves it more than anyone. But I feel rather Nadal will win 5th USO to troll the world by equaling Federer and Sampras as tournament GOAT.

The entire concept of someone "deserving" a title in tennis just doesn't work. Using that logic, Andy Roddick "deserved" a Wimbledon trophy. It's just fandom, as a Rafa fan, you feel he "deserves" another AO title, Novak fans thinks he "deserves" another FO and it goes on and on. Ultimately, none of them deserve anything, they earn the titles they win.

Let's not dwell on the past anymore. This is the present. And in the present, Nadal is not favored over Federer outside of clay. We're not living in 2012 or even 2014 anymore.
