Youtek Extreme Pro Stock Weight

I just bought a Youtek extreme pro.

The specifications say it's supposed to weigh 11.1oz unstrung. It weighed in at 11.8oz.

The weight of the racket strung and with an overgrip was up at 12.7oz!

The racket feels great. It feels like it should, just heavier. I'm happy with this because it meant I had to add less lead tape.

Is it common to have large variations with this racket? Anybody else noticed something like this?

seems high for unstrung/no overgrip. 12.28 oz on one I have, totally stock 4 1/2 grip strung with alu, and TWO supergrap overgips.

12.7 ounces??? That's almost as much as a KPS88!
How does it feel man? Must feel like magic.

Anyways, that's not very common. This can be a quality control issue, but they are usually varied from .5 ounces of its indicated weight. And you're is off by like a whole ounce?

I received one like that, thinking a few months back of switching - right after hitting with it for 5 minutes, I knew something was wrong. I weighed it, and TW graciously refunded my purchase price.

This is the BEST racket I have ever hit with! I brought it up to just over 14oz and it does play like magic.

Was the racket you returned defective in any way other than the weight?
Did it have the feel it was supposed to or was that off too?

Pro Stock?

Now that I'm not using this racquet anymore, I was able to check the unstrung specs...

Weight: 11.8oz (334g)

Balance: 315mm ~9 points HL

These specs are almost identical to the those of the Pro Stock TGK 219.15 being sold on e~b~a~y.

"HEAD YOUTEK EXTREME PRO (TGK 219.15 PRO STOCK)

CONDITION: BRAND NEW

GRIP SIZE: 4 3/8" AND 4 1/2" (PLEASE SPECIFY AT THE CHECKOUT POINT)

HEAD SIZE: 100 SQ/IN. (MIDPLUS)

LENGTH: 27" (STANDARD)

WEIGHT: 338g (UNSTRUNG)

BALANCE: 312mm

STRING PATTERN: 16 X 19"

... just a 4 gram difference in weight and 3mm on the balance point.

The leather grip on the pro stock frame is higher quality than on the one sold retail, so with a better leather grip the specs turn out to be just about spot on with 338 grams and 312mm balance.

There are no unusual markings on the frame.

Any chance I somehow got one of the Pro Stock frames?

I just had 2 YT IG Extreme Pros.
One felt very nice and easy swinging, the other one felt and swung like a tank. I didnt weight them, but the specs were way off between the two.

If you think you may have gotten a pro stock racket, and you see no unusual marks on the throat; Check under the grip. I believe some models have it on the pallet or the hairpin under the grip! :)

Nothing on the pallet... I don't think I want to risk damaging the pallet by removing it to check the hairpin.

Who did you buy it from?

Is there a trapdoor? If so, pry it open. Pro Stocks usually have silicone injected into the tubes of the hairpin and some may spill over into the space between the hairpin and trapdoor.

I think that current models have the racquet stats on the inside of the throat along with a sticker with a letter and a bunch of numbers. The sticker indicates Head pro stock.

I thought that Head was one of the better QC companies out there.

Head's weights on their actual racquets are very innacurate I have found

I bought it from racketguy.

There is no silicone in the handle and there are no unusual markings/stickers/cosmetics as far as I can tell.

Unlikely that it's a Head Pro Stock then.

I'm used to fairly wide variances in specs from Wilson. Maybe Head has the same issue or maybe it's a fake. I've generally heard positive things about racketguy - why don't you send him a note indicating the variance?

I don't think there is any possibility of it being fake (It's the best feeling racquet I've ever hit with and racketguy is a legitimate dealer)

I was trying to buy another youtek extreme pro to match up with this one, so I did email them about the variance a couple of months ago. They replied that they were unaware of any large variances in weight and they would be unable to find me a youtek extreme pro with matching or similar specs.

Being unable to match up another racquet to it, I ended up switching frames.

I initially thought it was just a variance in weight until I looked at the balance point as well and saw they were nearly identical to the TGK 219.15 on the bay.

From what I've read, it is unusual, but possible for a head racquet to vary from standards by .5oz, but I haven't heard of anyone getting one varying beyond .5oz.

The last one to cross my path weighed 314g (11.1 oz), with 31cm balance point and 292 SW (all unstrung). Hard to fathom why yours is that far off.

i´ve 2 ytks extreme pros, they weight 12.4oz each, all stock, 4 1/2 grips (strung, tourna tac overgrip and o ring dampener)...
they play pretty nice anyway, a bit stiff with full poly job, but nice.

I've noticed some of my recent Head purchases have run almost 10 grams over spec, but I attribute some of that to the larger grip size (G5) I use.
Yeah, definitely not a "No Tolerance" company.

i´ve discovered that head as some serious issues on QC. This year i bougth 2 used fxp prestiges (used, but perfect cond.): one was from the first batch realesed years ago and the specs were perfect. The other 2 were the latest production fxps and they were both 15 lighter. Even they felt hollow and much less stable than the other. I loved the first one, but i´ve to sold them because they felt too different from each other...

Head specs are WAY OFF. I have 3 YT EP's. The lightest is exactly to Head specs and I LOVE it. 1 is a little heavier and more head heavy. I can use it for an hour before it feels too heavy. The heaviest one is ridiculously heavy and has massive swingweight. I don't even carry it in my bag. I keep it next to my bed in case someone tries to break in.

Are you sure you don't have the specs for the youtex exteme MP, as far as 11.1 oz unstrung. In any event I have two pros and they are identical at 12.1 oz strung with yonex overgrap.

This is the only racquet I've ever had that is that far from what is was supposed to be. I really liked it, but it was impossible to find another that was the same specs unless I wanted to buy a pro stock racquet for $400. Maybe just by coincidence, the pro stock specs are exactly the same as the YTEP I have.

I have 3 extreme pro's and they all have different weights. Two of them are pretty close and the other is quite a bit lighter. I just string the heaviest of the frames very frequently and i use a full poly set up, so i end up playing with that stick most of the time.
