Zverev's Fall Looks Painful

Likely torn ligaments commentators saying. Tried my best to catch screen shot from replay. It looked bad. They are saying it will blow up, swell a lot.

Had to be taken in a wheel chair off the court to be evaluated. Could hear fans groaning after watching replays. Wouldn't wish an injury upon anyone.

And major respect for coming back out in crutches just now to shake hands.

Ugly. May have been a tear. But lets face it, he wasn't going to win regardless. Dude keeps choking up a storm. This match shouldn't have even been going on. Outside the tiebreak Nadal was rotten. ZVerev should have breadsticked him 3 times

This was a 12 day injury. Ankles are more elastic than people think, can take quite some trauma without breaking. He'll be fine probably.

Rafa most likely would have won anyway, but no one wants to win any match like this. Just a bummer. As much as Z irritates, I hope it's nothing worse than a sprain. Yikes.
He might be out for months, it looked pretty bad.

He needs to improve his footwork... nah seriously it is a real shame, he was producing some amazing tennis, big loss for the fans, tour will be less interesting for the time hes injured, just hope him a fast recovery

Looks like Alcaraz will be seeded as #4 at Wimbledon (no Medvedev, no Zverev).

Had almost exactly the same injury almost 2 years ago and I'm still not back to playing tennis but the ankle is almost back to 100%.
Granted, I don't have the world-leading medical care that someone like Zverev would have but still.
Here's to hoping it's one of those injuries that look absolutely brutal but turn out (relatively) fine.

We have ****ty clay courts so I have done this a few times sliding and getting my foot caught. It's so hard to tell on these injuries until they can get in and do an x-ray. I rolled my ankle very similar to this on a clay court and heard an audible "pop" and couldn't put any weight on it, but once the swelling went down I was able to full sprint on it the next day and it was just very minimal pain for a couple weeks. I had another that seemed minor and I was able to walk it off and I finished playing on it then it swelled up like a balloon the next day and knocked me out for like 6-weeks.

there is a former cricketer vinod kambli who rolled his ankle in a match against zimbabwe while fielding, that basically ended his career.....zverev is young so will probably recover from it in six months.....

Lol he barely won a service game in 2nd set. He was playing pretty poor compared to his last match. Zverevs choke jobs kept Nadal alive. Losing a breaker with 4 set points in a row with silly errors. 3 DFs serving for the 2nd set

Lol back at you. It's like you've never seen Rafa play. He did was he always does: Find ways to take sets even if he's not playing his best. Nothing new at all. But you believe whatever you need to believe.

Thats called escaping but it won't work everytime. Last year he was outdone despite starting with a bang. It was lucky break for him in SFs. Even if say it was a 4 setter for least..this match could have gone beyond 5 hrs.

Hope Zverev recovers, looking at the highlights 4:43-4:44 there's a loud crack before most of his weight hits the ground. It's sounds really awful:

Sure, there was an element of luck (though I hesitate to call Z's horrific injury "lucky". Feels incredibly insensitive.). But such is sport. I also agree that the match could have gone 4 or 5 sets. It also could have gone 3. The "what if" game is fun, but ultimately useless. But if we do play it? History says Rafa had a greater chance to win than Zverev. For about twenty reasons. Not the least of which is that Rafa was up a set, it's the French, Rafa's 21 slams, Z's unique ability to choke, etc.

But I get that Rafa haters need a reason to invalidate everything he does. It's cool.

Things weren’t looking very good for Zverev before the injury. He was struggling mentally as he usually does in matches like this. Of course, we’ll never know, but all things considered, Rafa clearly had the upper hand.

Lol tbh it was anybodies game...Rafa had the upperhand because zverev choked. Of course given his record at RG he would have found a away to win. But it all depends on the 2nd set...had zverev won it would have been in his favour. Had rafa won it would have done for zverev but so far zverev did a good job to broke rafa so many times.

Desperate fanatics can't digest facts...it is a common trend to brand everyone as hater who speaks bitter facts here in ttw.

Just reverse the situation ...i saw still many rafa fans were complaining novak won because Nadal had a foot injury despite the fact that he was 1-2 down.

Amazing,

An 36 years old outplays a 25 years old. Injury-free and all.

The more Nadal appears on screen the more impressive he becomes!

Medicine has advanced a lot...
Just two weeks ago he could barely move and the RG was in question.
Hopefully he shares some of the "goodies" with Sascha's camp...

Something similar happened to a 16-year-old Boris Becker at 1984 Wimbledon against Bill Scanlon.
So can we call it ankle germanitis?
