Yes the specs are similar....just a couple of points headlite with a heavy swingweight. Not for me, but for anyone considering the TC100, they should also check out the new Pro One 97. I thought it felt more solid than the Angell, while everything else was similar. Both Donnay & Angell are similar in that they both have foam filled frames and feel solid. Both offer customization options. Just good having options.

I bet its close because they are foam filled too. That makes a very nice feeling frame.

I havent tried it but it is what most who have had said. The "D" crossection of the TC95 and TC100 produces a more muted response whereas the more prestige-ish beamed TC97 doesnt mute the vibrations in the same way and plays more like a traditional boxbeam with more feedback. The TC97 is like a more powerful prestige variant with more flex than you can get now.

Man that is cool. I ask because I will order another TC95 at some point and getting a 97 could be a nice way to save some shipping cash and see how it plays at the same specs.

Well, I ordered a racquet from Angell two days ago. I emailed the company twice using their "contact us" email. So far.......crickets. I hope their racquet is better than their customer service.

I know others have said, Facebook and Twitter is a good way to contact them but you would think email would be just as good; If not, don't bother listing it as an option.

Update:

I did receive an email reply from Paul and actually, it was within 24 hours so my complaint is unfounded.
Looking forward to the racquet.

I am going to adopt a wait and see. dblsplayer, let me know when you receive your racquet

I seem to be caught between 2 pallet sizes on my TC95s. L3 is a bit small, L4 too big. I use Wilson Kontrol grips, the best I've found. I tried using a thin overgrip as an undergrip but it felt too cushioned, and in my head at least, changed the shape. My old L3 grip on Yonex tour g 330 with wilson kontrol is perfect. Can't really think of any solution apart from trying other grips, having just spent a fortune on buying loads from the states, doh. I'm really far too fussy about this than my ability warrants! Any ideas folks?

If you want better CS Paul can hire more people and then the racquet prices can go up. Or you can be patient or reach out via FB like many people suggest and he will respond to you pretty fast.

When one person is running the show you get a lot of benefits, but clearly he is not going to be able to respond immediately to everyone. I will say this - his shipping was crazy fast to me. I did not expect to get the frame for days later and was pretty surprised when it showed up so fast.

If you can get your hands on a kimony leather grip (0.8mm thick), pick an L4 and put an overgrip around it (A 0.3mm overgrip like babolat VS, or a 0.6mm grip like Yonex SuperGrap works depending on how thick you like it). That makes it slightly bigger than an L3 but smaller than an L4.

The L3's on the Angell (TC95) is slightly larger than my Wilson Pro Staff 95 L3. I had to replace the synthetic grip that came with the Angell with my worn out, thin replacement on my PS95 and added a 0.3mm overgrip to make it a more comfortable size for me.

Grips run slightly larger on the Angells.

Just out of curiosity: is the PS85 foam filled ?
Yes the PS85 was foam filled see:
Wilson_ProStaff_cutopenbyP1.jpg

image originally via VSBabolat... thats braided graphite. Im not a prostaff freak but I did seek out theTC95 because it has some shared qualites with more flex in the63RA version.

The POG was also foam filled and yes that contributes to the "classic" feel of certain frames. Others like the PC600 head are hollow.

Ordered two TC95s on sunday
70ra
27.5
320g
310mm (10 HL)

Now the waiting game. I currently have an prince tt100t weighted up to 11.5oz

Playing 4.0 doubles and singles I'd say I'm on the lower end of the spectrum but trying to get better every day. Currently hitting 5 to 6 times a week

Started as a 3.5 last year after many years away from the game

Just made a login but have read the forums quite a bit over the last year and appreciate everyones input!

Huh. I have one that was from he reissue in the mid to late 90s and one of the other ones I got at the same time cracked on an overhead. It did not appear to have any foam in it.

well as Paul will tell you foam is tricky... it can create quality control issues... also there were several productions of the ps 85... lets just say they are supposed to have foam.

Angell being a small operation is like the st. vincent operation.

My TC100 is now here, if anyone's looking for one in super nice condition: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/inde...30mm-9-10-condition-150.556756/#post-10087005
It's a very solid feeling racquet and has lots of power for a thin beamed racquet. The pattern is just to open for me and would better suit a topsin/baseliner kind of game. Glad I got to try it out though
since these Angell frames have gotten a lot of press here lately. I hope smaller companies like Angell and Donnay that offer customized options, continue to be available for those that choose to go that route.
They are a nice alternative to the big store super brands and offer more quality for just a little more money. I love Donnay's feel, but they drive me crazy with specs. The only way to buy a Donnay IMO is to custom order your desired specs directly from them. If you just buy one stock, you are liable to get one way over published specs. Angell seems to have a tighter handle on specs, but you need to know what you want before ordering or you can make an expensive mistake.

Yeah, mine were by no means the first run of them. But I can remember looking into a hollow hoop, at least where it snapped.

I've been playing the TC 97 again for the last couple of days, and this time around I happened to really, really like it. Either I'm basically in the zone right now (I should schedule some matches ASAP ;)) or I had total off-days the last few times I tried it. Everything I didn't like about it initially, namely the softer hoop compared to the TC 95, works to my advantage now and I returned especially well yesterday. Funny.

Anyway, time to take another hard look at the TC 97.

I was having a discussion with Paul the other day and the end result was that I too need to take a hard look at the TC97. I've been thinking about getting another TC95 identical but in 63RA and Paul said that the TC97 might be the better fit.

better yet...how about printing it on the inside of the throat or attach a little label like Donnay does.
IIRC Donnay prints the unstrung weight in grams followed by balance in mm, followed by RA. My old Donnay Pro one reads something like 30431867XX. I have not seen this on the new racquets I've seen from them.

Doesn't Paul put them on the inside of the throat like this?:
Angell_07.JPG

granted mine is blank but I like that. Btw just replaced my L3 B pallets with L4's, big thanks @teekaywhy if the sun keeps drying out the courts I'll hit some serves and see what differences it makes. It certainly feels more natural for me.

Yeah super curious why he thought so? Is it the RA in between the TC95 options? Perhaps the different feel or the slightly larger amount of power in the TC97? It is funny because I have zero interest in the TC97 but most of my hitting partners absolutely do. They've tried Donnays, PS95's and the RF97 but they value free power much more than I do. I want precision first (and last) and am adjusting to having a little power on tap again.

i sold mine but not because it was a bad racquet. more a matter of my downsizing operation. it does have a very open pattern, similar to the TT95 or even the Speed MP and Pure Aero. i would classify it as a modern player's frame in terms of how demanding it is. mine was 310 g with 320mm balance and a leather grip. SW was easily 330.

i would not worry about the flex or comfort of the TC97, it is very plush and solid (even at 310 g unstrung). i liked the head shape much better than the tc100, i personally think the tc97 is a better mold.

For some reason the TC95 seems to be magical all around wunderstick with the "D" beam cross section but it is nicely muted... the TC100 seems to be geared to a more particular type of player (the baseline camper or those looking for extra oomf...). The TC97 is also an all rounder like the 95 but it's less muted response it more familiar to those who grew accustomed to box beams. Im just not a box beam guy... I dont care about that and the more muted response appeals to the old Max 200g player in me.

Cool. The TC97 feels a bit more lively than the TC95, definitely less muted as Backhanded Compliment wrote. I don't think it has more inherent power than the 95, but that's easily fixed with strings, I suppose. My 97 currently has a rather old string job of Hawk Touch at 21/20 (most definitely lots lower by now), I like it loose.

I did change one thing, though. As ordered my TC97 was 315g/310mm with a leather grip, which I changed to a synthetic one a few days ago. It's now closer to the weight/balance of my TC95 frames, which are 310g/315mm (the trimmed Hydrosorb Pro is about 5g lighter than the Angell leather i took off).

2 main reasons Paul recommended the TC97: a flex rating between the TC95's 63 & 70 and he described the TC97 as a more all-rounder.

I used to play with the Prince Graphite 100, which has amazing feel. Would that beam shape be more similar to the TC97? I wonder if its feel is similar.

@808 if you ever want to move that TC97 lemme know. Those are the same specs as my TC95.

Yes the Prince Graphite 100 is a box beam with foam so I suspect the TC97 might be more similar in feel. I do feel like the TC95 is the most well rounded stick Ive ever hit with... equally adept at S&V or baseline defense. I can even Servbot with it... just change the balance to about 7pts hl and I can pound down enormous flat serves all day long.

Thing is I like precision... I tried it out just now with the L4 B shape pallets and Im very very happy. Seemingly all the minor issues I was having are corrected. I'll report later but it is very interesting the way the right size grip made a huge difference in predictability and precision on second serves. This thing is a beast... a kid and his mom were watching me serve and he's going "Whoah" and its just an american twist second serve. When people who dont know anything take notice it tells me something. Perhaps the best serving stick Ive ever used now... might just unload the Becker London tour mid now and get me a Fischer vacuum pro 90 for Stich-y situations. Thank You @teekaywhy that was the missing piece. I never thought I was so sensitive to pallet size.

If any of you guys decide to part with one or two of your TC 97's with BLACK grommets in 70 RA, 16x19 pattern and 320 or 330 gram static weight please shoot me a message via my profile for an easy sale. :) The grip shape won't matter that much but B or C is probably preferred. The curiosity is killing me after reading these threads. :) Best, BHBH

I didn't get a response either and it's been well over a week. How does one contact them on Twitter?

I had the same issues as you guys trying the website email- no response - but tried a few times on fb & usually get timely responses if it's not an odd hour for them - if it is, they usually respond during reasonable times the next day.

I sent them a message at midnight last night & got a response at 9:30am today & just got another one just now. Facebook seems best for asking questions. Communication has been great that route.

I know that doesn't help you guys without Facebook - sorry.

Took the modified Tech 315 16M out this past week. Just for giggles. bLUF TC97>>>315. The plow and pop on the TC97 are just too good. I have the TF 315 modded to my target specs of 350g/ 12 PT HL. I can detail the work if anyone cares but basically it's the same spec as the Angells minus the swing weight. I would alternate between the TF and the TC and after about 20 mins had to put the 315 away. Couldn't square up the ball simply because it swung so light and whippy. Backhand drives suffered the most as I depend on the racquet mass and SW to clear the contact zone and followthrough, being a one hander and all.
Forehands found the trailing edge of the frame far too often. I'm sure I could adjust but that would mean resetting my timing too drastically. If I were to play someone with no pace or junkballs with the 315, Id be hitting the side walls or neighboring court for sure.

Nice review thanks. I do think it's tricky to switch between 2 racquets if they have a significant difference in swingweight, even if the static weight and balance are the same. Basically, if you start with one that you have adjusted to, it will be tricky to adjust to the other in a very short time. That doesn't necessarily mean one is better than the other (albeit it could be of course). I have a Tec 315, albeit with a higher SW, and I certainly found it hard to adjust to coming from a different stick, but once i gave it more time, i started to see some great results.

My TC97 is here, so I am officially in the club now. I bought it used from tt member. Here is the trouble: I put it on scale and it is strung, with leather grip 352g. I play with usually with up to 320g strung. I think this will be simply too much for me (I haven't played it yet though). So How to get it closer to my spec? Or rather: what kind of weight I can expect to find in hairpin or where? I haven't found any video tutorial how to play with Angell racquets and never done such a modification myself. Any advice mates?

Maybe you have not bought things from custom builders before but this is common stuff that happens with any small business. Sometimes the email does not work, sometimes the person is away for personal matters, or they are just really busy. I sincerely doubt you were being ignored.

If you are going to buy something custom, I can't preach the word patience enough. These frames are not for everybody. A lot of people are probably better off buying mainstream frames especially if this type of stuff stresses them out. If you saw what I did to get some handmade guitars made for me overseas, you would flip out if this bothers you. lol.
