In the last 2 weeks I made 2 or 3 stops at my regular thrift store and there was not 1 tennis racket. Not a single one, not a broken, warped or what ever piece of junk...just nothing. I have never seen that before...so either there is just nothing coming in or somebody is sneaking rackets from there .
Anyway - I saw this today and thought it is really cool.

Was tempted to buy it, but a) I am not an adidas-guy and b) I am not so much into bags. If anybody wants it, let me know. I can go get it and ship it, if you pay for both. It looks to be in good shape, has a stain on one side, but seems not having been in use much!
oh, and on te positive side, I bouthg a pile of rackets for next to nothing... but shipping brings it to quite a bit more. Expecting the delivery end of next week.

Not a bad day yesterday, though my heart beating a bit faster when I say a Pro Staff case from the corner of my eye slowed down again, when inside I "only" found a PS95 and not a PS85 ... But still, looks almost like new, and the Fairway grip alone made it worth it ;-)
Other finds, all in very decent shape
- Head Director
- Le Coq Sportif Concept 3 OS
- Dunlop Select Pro Revelation
- POG 110 - 4 stripes
- Rossi F200 Carbon in white

That PS95 is probably worth more and rarer than an 85. Besides, I bet it plays great.

I just picked up two Yamaha Secret 04 racquets with covers. They both have large grips with Fairway leather that appear to be built up. I haven't had time to inspect them yet but the frames are in excellent condition.

Excellent! am Secret 04's are superb sticks. I've got a Secret 04 and a Proto 02 (1 ounce lighter, tiny bit flexier)

BTW love the Prestige Pro. Haven't played it nor will I. Just had to have it;<)

Didn't find it in a Thrift Store (but can I still post?), but a local classifieds. Seller was asking $20 for it, and he got it. :)
It's a Head Power Plus, i'd say circa 1990, maybe someone can confirm or correct. It's brand new, strung, but never been hit. No scratches anywhere, only one small chip, which I image came from the one time he dropped it during a moving day.
Has no specs written anywhere, but so far it weighs 355g strung and a headlight balance of 6 points. I find it has a high swingweight, maybe 330+ grams.
And it's turquoise! At first I thought from the pictures it was a Graphite Pro, but helas, it was not to be.
It's a real 89 sq. in. head, I may re-string it and take it out for a hit, see if this is the new head size for me. :)

Great find! I would play with the existing strings. They look new/unplayed and synthetic (nylon), which means nothing much has happened to them. They are probably still good to play.

Thanks!
The current string is an old Head multi, and looks to be in the 30-40 lbs range... it's going to be a rocket launcher!

Update on the swingweight: I was comparing it yesterday to a KFactor 90 and the swingweight seems quite higher on the Head. This thing is a club!

The KFactor 90 is very head light .. probably 10pts with overgrip. Head rackets are usually 6pt or so. At equal weight, you new find should have a higher SW..

Good point. I will we adding a plastic shrink wrap that should bring it closer to the 10pts headlight range.

Yesterday I removed the string job and the grommets were so dry they all crumbled! lol
Never had that happen to me, but mind you, I'm no collector.

Those white grommets from that era are all toast by now. I've now replaced grommets on three Head racquets from that period and am about to do a fourth. If yours already weighs 355, figure another 10 grams at least by the time you get some Prestige CAPs on there.

I was in a thrift store and I found a Wilson Pro Staff largehead(110). Perfect condition and for only $3 dollars. Still plays like a dream. Some of my friends comment on the old school look to it but I beat my friends who play with modern day rackets. The specs are close to 12oz. Most oversize rackets tend to go lighter in weight but when they made this racket Wilson made it with player racket specs with an over-sized head. Similar to the 85 but a bigger sweat spot for easier volleying. Unfortunately its getting worn now but have been using the new version POG as the specs are very similar.

I have had some nice acquisitions over the past two weeks. I found two of these at Goodwill and two at Play it Again. I paid about $50 total for all. The Pro Staff is a St. Vincent. The Black Max is unused. The Yamaha Secret 04 is a racquet I'm not familiar with, and the Snauwaert Ellipse is just cool.

The Yamaha Secret 04 is a great collectible classic. It's the stiffest racquet I've ever played with. I'm way jealous of the Black Max. I've been on the hunt for this for ages . I have one but its in cr@p condition. Maybe a 7/10.

The Black Max was a surprise, but amazingly, I found one at this very same Goodwill a couple of years ago NOS unstrung, hangtag, brochure and original receipt all intact. I was thinking about figuring out a way to work a deal with you for the Black Max, and then I noticed where you were from. Racquets are just too expensive to ship internationally........

Those Lacostes and the Snauwaerts were a great acquisition. Where did you find those?

I have a friend in NY who occasionally comes out to SA. She's my tennis racket mule. Maybe we can talk on email. No sales talk allowed in here. My email is ciaronf@gmail.com

I saw an advert for the Lacostes/Snauwerts on our local version of Craiglist.

Found a Prince Graphite Volley 110 and a Prokennex Composite Destiny 110 AVC $5 each, don't know how to post pics.
Anyone know anything about these please fill me in.

Great set of classic graphite finds ! Wheres the Wood ? Most all post graphite and too few woods are left these days ?

I see a lot of woods. I just concentrate on playable racquets these days.
Do you mean that you dont consider woods as "playable racquets these days" ?
I think many pickers may have this same opinion.
It is a challenge to play a graphite player using wood as you need to counter power with allcourt skills taking advantage of placement and angles. Maybe even consider serve/volley which can be a real surprise tactic these days :)

I don't generally play with woods. I would grab one if it was something I really liked, like a minty Maxply Fort (and I'm still waiting for a Hazell Streamline to show up at Goodwill :)

I can play competitively w/ wood at 4.0 and below against any other player/frame. That said, I love classic playing heavy frames and have never needed stiffness to produce power.

Any higher level would require the other player to play a similar frame too.

Have you had a chance to hit with it?

Yes, I did take it out for a spin shortly after I had bought it. If I remember right, with the natural gut I had found it with.
And, I remember it to be quite powerful, precise and stiff. Or to quote:
Arm-wrecker(at least a the common tensions of the day); but what a cool looking racket! Great find!
...but I do not recall the string tension at all, so I couldn't tell you if it felt very stiff at least partially due to strings.
I shall take it out for another hit soon...it's such a cool looking racket!

It actually feels quite comfortable on the arm these old school graphites. And TF40 has a bit of boron that produces a really unique feel!

Practicad a bit today and took the TF40 out for a part of my sessions. Super solid and stable precision machine! Hits a fast ball, but u had a to work hard to develop spin. Ok, might be due to the not super-fresh full-gut string bed.
Did Yannick Noah actually ever play this frame?

- Max 200g graphite injection (green & gold stripes above the grip) - original strings by the looks of things, faded detail along the side, can still just about decipher the McEnroe signature. Popped an overgrip on the brown leather base.
- Wilson "Midsize 80/20" - never heard of this before, presumably early 80s. Nice and simple, if a little worn, black and red paintjob. Remarkably thin beam - can't be more than 15mm. Grip was totally desiccated so new base grip added. Anyone know anything about this racket?
- Fischer Pro No 1 FT - from reading other threads, this seems to be the weak link in the Fischer line-up but it's treated me ok to date. Re-gripped for the reasons above.

Dunlop and Wilson cost a fiver each in the Southfields Oxfam on the way back from Wimbledon (spotted some early 90s Head twaron (no prestiges), pro kennex, donnay and prince in there too).

It's not strictly a thrift store job as it cost nowt but I found the Fischer during a rummage in the loft back home - it was bought by a relative 12 years ago on a short-lived exercise kick but was never used in anger so it's as good as new.

Which Head twaron racquets?
There's definitely a comp pro there (pinky-purple glittery paint job), which you might interested in judging from your sig, and I think there was another one but I confess I didn't get the name of it. All rackets for £5, few woodies there too.
