Attention Talk Tennis Members:

We have a limited number of the new Dunlop Precision racquets for a playtest. We have two different models to test - the 98 Tour and 100 Tour. We will not be taking requests for which model you will receive so please only sign-up if you are willing to hit with either choice. Emails that include requests will not be considered for the playtest. This playtest is open to USA Talk Tennis members only.

VERY IMPORTANT: If selected, you will responsible for getting the racquet strung. With the playtest racquet, you will receive 2 sets of string to use: Dunlop Black Widow 16 and Dunlop Silk 16. You can use either or both or use your own string of choice. Additionally, please hit with the racquet in stock form. You can do customization but your review should include both comments in stock and customized form.

Grips size: 4 ⅜”

The application period has ended. We will notify the selected playtesters by email early next week.

We select playtesters based on a number of factors, including message board participation and history as well as performances on past playtests.

In order to participate you must post your findings in this thread by November 28, 2016. Posting a complete thorough review by the deadline is necessary to remain in good standing for future playtests.

Include the following in your review:

Racquet Models Received:
String and tension used for test:
Tennis experience/background:
Describe your playing style (i.e. serve & volley):
Current racquet/string setups:
How many hours did you play with the racquet?

Comments on racquet performance:
-Groundstrokes:
-Serves:
-Volleys:
-Serve returns:
General reaction/comments on overall performance:

Thanks,

TW Staff

PS- Please do not post extraneous comments like “email sent” or “pick me” in this thread as they will be deleted to keep it clean for comments.

Wow another US only play test, shame as Dunlop is a British company, I'm sure there's plenty of people like myself in the UK who were bought up using Dunlop frames who would of liked to be on this one.

Uuuuuuuhhhh consider me highly interested :)

Could the thread notices also be posted here should that ever come to pass? It's much more convenient than always checking the TW Europe sections on this board.

We (I) really need a South America Tennis Warehouse Store. It would be awesome.
Imagine that... Just let me dream.

I've played a bit the the AG100 / AG200

Where do the racquets in the play test fall in line with the racquets still in production by Dunlop? Would you have any specs available for either?

Regards

djNEiGht,

The Precision line will be Dunlop's control-oriented line (where as the Force is more on the power side). We don't have 100% official specs yet but here is what we do have:

Precision 98 Tour:
Headsize: 98
String Pattern: 18x20
Approximate Strung Weight: 11.7 oz
Beam Width: 22 mm straight beam
Stiffness:67
Balance: 7pts Head Light
Swingweight: 315

Precision 100 Tour:
Headsize: 100
String Pattern: 16x19
Approximate Strung Weight: 11.5 oz
Beam Width: 22mm straight beam
Stiffness: 66
Balance: 7pts Head Light
Swingweight: 307

Hope that helps,
Brittany, TW

Wow looking forward to getting a chance to review these!

I have not owned a Dunlop since the BioMimmetic series, but I loved them had a 200 and a 300.

Thank you. It helps and I understand it's not official specs. 67 is a bit high to my pref but I think with the way the Dunlops I've hit with play that this might feel less than a 67. The specs on this one sounds really nice

My last Dunlops were from the 1990s (Revelation Pro Tour) and I really haven't taken them all that seriously (hard to with Babolat, Wilson and Head dominating) but it should be fun to watch this playtest. These frames sound stiff but I think that the racquet companies are getting the stiffer racquets to play more comfortably with slight layup modifications. It's really cool that there are so many playtests offered here. I look forward to seeing the reviews.

BTW, I didn't know that Dunlop was a British company. I always thought that it was Australian for some reason.

That TW shirt looks great. I also see where Chris increases his swingweight with that wrist jewelry.

The tour model looks great - are tour frames going all-black this year? This and the RF97. It seems like a lot of players frames are going around 66-67 RA this year too.

Attention Talk Tennis Members,

We have sent out emails to those who were selected. For those who were selected, congratulations and make sure you read the email and respond back.

For those of you who were not selected, thank you so much for wanting to participate in the playtest. There will be many more playtests in the future so keep on applying and don't give up.

Congratulations to all selected play testers. I look forward to reading the reviews.
yes congrats all around...I wonder if I'm on a blacklist. Haven't gotten on a play test for some time. Last one I was on the strings never showed up so couldn't do a review. I commented in play test thread about the strings not showing up.

All the same, I understand there are a limited quantity of play test products and could have just been one of the unlucky ones.

@djNEiGht,

You can be rest assured you are not. We just have a high demand of playtesters and a small supply of racquets. Keep trying!

Thanks,
Brittany, TW

I figured as such. Just venting. Looking forward to hearing the reviews. It is honestly refreshing to hear the voices of new play testers.

I too was feeling left out, until I learned that my normal doubles partner & fellow racquetaholic @downs_chris had been selected. In some ways, its even better in that I can hit w/ it, but don't have to write the review...

In fact, I sent him an e-mail w/ the link telling him to register. His reply to me was:

i was selected as a tester. This is my first time playtesting a racquet. Here's to hoping i get a crack at the 100 sq inch version as that's more in my current spec range. That said, the 98 isn't too far off what i used to play with a few years back so it shouldn't be a big adjustment. I'm looking forward to this because I had just ordered a set of demo racquets that are more or less in the similar spec range (the newer wilson PS97 and 97S, burn FST 99S and technifibre 315 for that delicious $10 off and because it just happens to be one i've been meaning to try). thanks again for giving me a shot at this!

i've actually enjoyed a lot of Dunlop frames over the years - going back to my hotmelt 90 sq in frame, to the muscle weave 200g -- even the idapt 98 last year was a fun frame when I had to play 5.0 singles...i'm curious to see what they put out...

One of my friends got in the same string test as I did and we had a head to head play test. We often text each other when there is a play test application up on the boards. It was fun to have that in the back of my mind that my hitting partner was thinking about how his string was working for him as well as how the opponent was returning with same string.

I didn't get on the RF97A play test but one of the teaching pro's I know often lets me try out the demo's he has. He had the RF97A during the play test and I was able to chime in on my thoughts of that racquet in the play test thread.

Feeling grateful

Lately I have more luck with lottery tickets (yep just 5 buck winners and free tickets thou) then getting on a playtest here. I have no idea what the formula / logic is but hope someday to get on one... Very tough to swallow when rookies get in and when fierce ,long time loyal forum active members do not..

the play test frames shipped out last night. I have the Bio 300, Bio 300T, M3.0, F3.0, F2.0, and M2.0. whichever frame I receive for the play test I will be able to compare to the more recent models. I will string with Kirshbaum PL2 17L which is the string I have in my other Dunlops for as much of an apples to apples comparison as possible.

Good stuff! Look forward to reading your reviews and observations.

I was selected as well and received an email last night saying that the racquet shipped. I am super excited as I loved the F3.0 Tour but moved on to frames with a little more pop. I hope I get the 98 Tour and I'm hoping Dunlop decided to give this frame some decent power, which was the only thing I felt the F3.0 Tour lacked.

I know I was not picked for the playtest but I went ahead and purchased a Precision 100 Tour, could not resist.
If @TW Staff does not care I will post my impressions here since this is already a thread dedicated to these, otherwise I will create a new thread.

Received the Precision 100 Tour last night with a set of Dunlop Silk and set of Black Widow. Good looking racquet. I'll string it up with the Black Widow tonight and hopefully get to hit with it over the weekend. Any recommendations on tension? My current setup is a Yonex DR100 with poly tour pro mains and velocity crosses at 55 lbs.

Awesome tennis_nut! I look forward to your feedback. My frame will not arrive in NY until Monday. I am hoping for the 98 so that I can offer a direct comparison to the F3.0 but I do like the specs of the 100 Tour and would be fine if I receive that one. With my F3.0 and a full bed of poly I would not go higher than 53 lbs. Black Widow is pretty stiff so I would go down to 52 lbs but that is on a 98. On the 100 Tour I would go up to 54 lbs with Black Widow. I suspect is will feel brassy at higher tensions and have that ping sound that poly's can have. Good luck!

Have not seen squat from the golden ten precision play testers.
Come on guys...
You know it takes fresh and fast balls to do a play test right!
Lets go....

Can't test it when we just got it early this week and the forecast of rain has us waiting until later next week to actually get on the court.

I was fortunate to be selected for this playtest (thank you so much TW) and received the 98 Dunlop Precision Tour yesterday. I strung it up this AM using my pull crank stringer and here are my initial impressions after a 2 hour hit (will post my comprehensive review later after I have spent more time with it).

Here are some specs from the racquet I received. Racquet weight was 10.9oz out of the box unstrung with the plastic removed. Once strung with rpm blast 17 in the mains at 50lbs and the supplied Dunlop Silk in the crosses at 53lbs the weight was 11.6oz. After putting the Dunlop dampener and a tourna grip XL overwrap the weight is 11.8oz. I would guess the swing weight is around 310 or so strung but will get that measured later at a shop.

I have a history with Dunlop frames going back to the muscle weave 200, the hot melt 200, the hot melt 300, the aerogel 300 and to the 4d aerogel 200 and the 4d aerogel 200 tour. Absolutely loved the 4d 200 racquets and debate going back to them. I am a 4.5 player that currently plays with the old version of the Wilson 97s and play both singles and doubles that likes to attack the net.

Overall, the racquet swings very fast and I really felt like I could keep on the gas with my groundstrokes. I felt like I had very good precision as the racquet has tons of control. Power is ok and definitely has more power than the initial versions of the 300 tour I tried a while ago. Haven't tried the F3.0 tour or later versions. I have a OHB and felt like the racquet needed more plow for me to really hit shot effectively. Spin was decent as I am sure I could put something a bit more spin friendly and get more spin. At net, the racquet was good and felt like I had good precision. My hitting partner hits a big ball so at times it would show signs of instability. Never did get to hit serves yet.

It is a good looking racquet with a nice design. Like the glossy black paint job and looks good in the hand. I think it would take weight well but will continue to play with it in stock form for the next couple weeks to post my detailed review. I will also try it with weight as well in addition to trying it with other strings.

More to come....
