Women don't deserve equal pay for a low class product. Clisjters and Navrat played a couple of local open guys here, and lost to both, although neither had any atp points at all. They were number one at the times they played. Tsurenko, the guy who has a house in sacto, is #700 world ranked. Serena would not win a game against him period nor would venus or any other woman, and they don't play 3-5 so only pc morons argue for equal pay.

I'm a believer for equal pay and equal rights for WTA and female athletes but, sheesh, this is plain awful. I mean, I know this outcome is a theortical possibility but the chances should be fairly rare or slim to none. How did Nicu and Chan manage to get to the finals and then get double bageled like this?
Mildy interesting: Throughout the entire tournament draw in women's doubles only six sets of bagels were served. Two were in the finals.

I have to split hairs - I think the reasoning behind equal pay for tennis is "equal pay or equal achievement" (valuing a women's single title the same as a men's singles title, etc.) not "equal pay for equal work."

It was. Started fairly late but finished quickly.
By the time I got out, the motorway was closed and a 2 hour trip turned into 3 1/2 hours. Hit the sack about 2.00 in the morning.
I spent 4 times longer in the car than they spent on court.
The worst thing was Centre Court was 50% empty from the end of the singles to lights out. Anyone could queue for a ticket. I just moved down right to the courtside.

Yes. RF once doublebageled gasto gaudio at the year end atp masters cup in houston. It was unusual. Just a rr match. Comprehensive beating. No outrage here, nor there.
There are rational people in favor of equal pay. I do not think rational people would disagree with your accurate, factual assessment of the lower level of play as compared to men's tennis.
The thing they hang their hat on is value. These are not pc morons. They are correct about the wta's Entertainment value. They are right about Subjective thngs like interest, drama, story, tension, and overall product. Maybe Approximations of gate receipts? These are generally hard to prove though, so chauvinists get all norman bates up in here.
Admittedly, I personally would not pay as much to see top women's tennis as i would for ncaa men's tennis or the qualies of an atp challenger. But as much as i believe men's tennis partially does fund women's tennis...and i wish they paid journeymen a lot better than they did when i was out there trying (sadly, marginally greater prize money now compared to the early 90s...weak!)...
There's no question, tennis is a better product when both genders compete. At the same venue -- even better. I think this is where the women really earn their keep. Again, a little subjective here, but...Overall value, big picture. Family interest. Hollywood q ratings. The PC morons, and the smart free market types alike can all agree, tennis is better when it is bigger in profile. Inclusion works. This is what BJK got right. And women's tennis is a part of that, at all levels. Women's tennis -- I don't watch it a ton, but it is a good thing!
Now, if some sports marketers empirically analyzed gate receipts in a free market way, we could put an end to this fruitless discussion. i would be curious to see the results of that study! But i do not think a study like this would be very popular, if the results were damaging to the cause of equal pay.

Tennis is so physical now, I would welcome the idea of two out of three in all matches, and 3 out of five in davis cup and in the qtrs, semis an finals of slams for men. Maybe the finals of the atp 1000s and yr end atp wtf in London.
Summary:
Love both tours.
Pay fair.
Not more tennis. Quality is what we love. Not quantity. Health of the players and health of the game.
Pay a bit more for futures and challengers.

Having said that though I think Slice Forehand is a good shot to mix in during long rallies in Singles court play. I seen this work like a charm even in 4.5 level USTA singles match. Guys love ripping that big topspin forehands crosscourt and have a decent rallie. They usually try to be macho and see who can rip a bigger forehand,,,,,,if you mix in a Hard slice forehand in the middle of the rallie,,,it usually produces a Misshit shot that lands short............. then you move in for the kill...

Given how funky this Wimbledon has been, and how much better the Makarova / Vesnina team was, the scoreline is not so shocking imo.

The women use smaller, faster balls and use juiced radar guns. Why is that? The top women average more than 1000rpm less than men do, even with the smaller, faster balls. Why is that? They are weaker, slower, and use the wta style of tech., all of which is inferior to the atp style and reality. Why aren't the women taught the same tech as the men are? Because they can't do it? No.

I think some of you have missed the point or have not been in tennis very long. When the WTA was separate from the ATP in all but slams, the WTA did not draw enough fans to pay for the parking attendants, WTA Administration got together with the ATP Administration, the pencil pushers not players and pleaded there case that the WTA was technically bankrupt and would fold up like a card table, so they agreed to save Womens tennis and put the WTA with the ATP in many events, this saved the WTA , were done yet somehow now they get equal pay for much less tennis in the Slams, so the WTA has profited by this agreement and the ATP-Players are left to foot the bill for them- a very large artificial support coming out of the hides of the ATP Players.
Now a reality check---- I went to a tournament under the current configuration and purchased a ticket to watch a match, a WTA match Proceeded the ATP match, there was hardly anyone there until the ATP match-yet- yes yet - they both got paid the same amount for a match----, I'm not against the WTA-however I do believe they should be paid on the basis of there ticket draws and not a set fee same as men who draw much more paying customers.

Exactly. Everyone says they need to play the same as the men to get the same pay, but if they did all that would happen is the same people complaining that the women are playing longer matches and that they don't want to watch that because -insert male player name- is up next.
