Watched Jim Jarmusch's Paterson (2016). I really enjoyed it and thought it was a precise piece of filmmaking. About a bus driver named Paterson who lives in the city that shares his name, in New Jersey. In his lunch breaks and spare time he writes poetry. Whereas his fanciful unemployed wife spends her days with various whimsical projects. The film follows the two of them for a week, and is largely a celebration of daily life and the mundane.

The film is unusually undramatic and low-key. It eventually builds to an accident that on the surface doesn't seem that serious, but nevertheless the episode manages to convey a tragic punch (to me at least). And while the film stays clear of the biggest drama, it's crafted to be ambiguous in a way that also allows a darker interpretation of certain signs that could suggest that the main character could have some mental problems or has experienced past trauma, and that maybe poetry is what helps him process the world.

I thought Adam Driver and the lovely Golshifteh Farahani did wonderful jobs with the leading characters. They are both very expressive people in slightly different ways, and you feel that maybe they share certain sides with their characters.

Highly recommended for those who can stand a movie that is quiet on the surface.

Caught up with this one and I enjoyed it. I like rather off beat films.
I liked the scenes where he was walking to and from work and in a normal movie there would have been violence at work down every alley and waiting for some unfortunate.
After a while you forgot that all too obvious usual movie typecast.
None of that here.

The wife didn't get it and left after 30mins...
Marmite film I suppose.

Thirteen at Dinner (1985) - Another Christie whodunit. Probably made for TV. Peter Ustinov playing Poirot, and Faye Dunaway and a youngish Bill Nighy. Based on Lord Edgeware Dies.

Gifted (2017) - Chris Evans.

About a mathematical prodigy, Navier-Stokes, child custody and a one-eyed cat named Fred.

Wakefield (2016) - Bryan Cranston.

Man doesn't return home, but watches his family from a window/attic for a long time. Interesting plot, expected a serious/dark/psychological character study, but it is quite funny and light-hearted as yet.

Watching it for the sake of Cranston.

Captain Fantastic 2016

Suggested by a friend and although not perfect, it was an entertaining piece that can lead some decent conversation on society, parenting and family. Compared to most movies these days, this felt much more out of the box. Worth watching imo.

Just got done watching "The Man Who Wasn't There" (1983 version)

Really disappointing film.

Not really many laughs, and also some vulgar gratuitous nudity which was pretty inapproprate.

Also for anyone thinking of watching, it is a comedy but there is quite a bit of violence /blood in the film (also something I detest)

Jeffrey Tambour does appear in the movie, complete with a ridiculous Russian accent which is not believable

Finally watched Batman vs Superman. Despite low ratings from critics I enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting Superman to reveal a darker side.

Saw The Glass Castle, I was tired of the whole stupid family after about 5 minutes.
Later, they were trying to create a touching moment as the father lay dying.
We could only wish he'd hurry up and get it over with.

One of those rare movies with virtually no character that one could,
connect with.

Sinister. I don't watch horror movies at all. But I sat through this for my brother. So he would watch Rogue One in return. :D

It's a good movie, I just thought I would ask as I watch a lot of old movies when there's one I'm interested in...
I also love these oldies, Meet Me In St.Louis and Calamity Jane..

Watched The Founder and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 this weekend.

The Founder is about the creation of McDonald's. Michael Keaton plays Ray Kroc. Very interesting story.

Guardians 2 was pretty weak compared to the first one. Plot was pretty weak and it seemed very rushed.

I enjoyed Meet Me In ... but not seen the other two. Not even heard of Poison Pen. Will check up. It almost sounds like a Miss Marple story.
Thx.

Re watched one of my favourite films ever as well, Oldboy (2003). You're in for a treat if you haven't seen it.
Saw Night and Fog a few years back.

Kung Fu Hustle for the umpteenth time. It's just one of my favourite movies ever, and a rare foreign film that is better dubbed IMO. It just never gets old.

I should watch Shaolin Soccer, heard that is hilarious as well.

Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) and Free Fire (2017) - Really enjoyed both of these.
Maudie (2016) - Liked this more than I was expecting.
Ida (2014) - Very good, especially the cinematography.
Force Majeure (2014) - Funny, in that really uncomfortable/hard to watch kind of way like in The Office.
One-Eyed Jacks (1961) - Take a bow Marlon! Great Western.
Peppermint Soda (1977) - I really, really love this film.

John Wick (part 2). Same as #1, but without the wow factor.... It was good. Ok, I'll admit it was very entertaining... but the second slice of pizza is never as tasty as the first one.

This movie "Exception" turned out to be a Great movie. very well acted and heartfelt movie.

I saw it tonight. It was good. Only wish they didn't have sex right off the bat. It would be nicer if she refused and build some romance before hitting the bed. Other than that it was very good movie.
Can someone recommend me some good romantic movies like this?

The Lover. The BEST Romance I have ever seen in my entire lifetime.

Anyway during the War time like WW2, it was a normal thing to just to take the woman you want if you are conquering army. So for that Major of german army to take that servant girl like that was fairly normal for during that time. But of course, he falls in love with her because he is a really nice guy at heart....LOL. Of course this is normal peace time,,,, that would not happen now, unless the girl you meet is into that....;)

I will definitely check it out " The Lover". Thanks for recommendation.

in theatres, Soderberg's breezy comedy about battling back when you're down, mildly amusing, some social commentary in the mix
