New ELSO Double Sock System

I just got a pair of these and I think they’re pretty great. Not really a new idea but a new application of wearing to pairs of socks. In their system each sock is dedicated to a specific purpose. The inner sock basically is there two wick away moisture in the outer sock offer support to the arch into the ankle compression.

I know Tennis Warehouse has just picked up the line and if anybody has had trouble with blisters, foot fatigue, calluses, moisture issues, or stability within the shoe from their socks being too thin or to thick maybe the ELSO socks DSS could be the answer. I was very impressed.

In a nutshell this is the theory behind the ELSO system:

Understanding our Double Sock System and its Importance

Wearing shoes and one pair of socks creates two interfaces: the skin-sock interface and the sock-shoe interface each having a certain level of friction. This measurement is the coefficient of friction (COF) which is a number usually less than 1. High friction between both interfaces is a contributing factor for blisters. To alleviate this problem, the wearer should create an extra interface by wearing additional socks. If the sock-sock interface COF is lower than that of the other two interfaces, the two socks will slide across one another before there is movement elsewhere. That will reduce shear (and therefore blisters).

Double Impact socks were structurally designed to help with this issue and more. The Double Impact Socks assist in the prevention of blisters on the feet, athlete's foot, and shin splints as well as the reduction of friction between the soles of the feet and the shoes. The Double Impact Performance Socks provide additional support to the ankle, reducing the possibility of an injury.

Even though production cost of socks are much expensive than people think but Socks prices are out of control....
Blame for Nike.

Not sure patent office will grant for this application since it’s basically two socks together.
Outer layer emphasizes for certain area and inner layer emphasizes for other area...

Sock prices across the board are getting crazy. That said I get FOUR socks from ELSO for $24 and I get TWO socks from Nike with their GRIP elite line for $28 and I can’t find them anywhere and they’re always out of stock.

BTW Customer Service from the manufacturer with the ELSOs are off the hook. Very nice and patient people.

I don't like spending money on socks. I have a bunch of Thorlo Level 3 that I don't even wear. I prefer the Head socks I get from Costco. They are what, 6 pairs for around $10? I think they are actually thicker than the Thorlo, and more importantly, non-slippery.

Interesting. Do the double socks end up being thicker than most regular tennis socks? Also, doesn’t look like the ones tw is carrying are the doubles.

Manufacturing cost of socks are expensive because human hands are needed to finish socks.
Probably their socks might be from one of socks factories in NC.

Socks are very tricky. Manufacturing cost is high but less prices for retail and not many people really pay attention on socks. Tough to sell.

The DSS socks felt to me to be about as thick together as a single Zensah tennis crew sock - not as thick as a Thorlo level 3 sock - but thicker than Feetures, Vitalsox, Fitsock, or Stance (all to thin for my tastes).

IMO They are plush without being bulky.

I've been wearing double socks (both very thin) for decades, as that has always been the best way for me to prevent blisters. This was particularly an issue back in my teenage years when I played multiple hours each day, and risked getting blisters - especially on the ball of my foot. The extra layer allows for an extra degree of reduced friction between the socks, so less "tugging" occurs on my actual skin.

I can't remember who told me about this trick, but it has served me well, and I'd imagine I'm not the only one out there who does this.

BTW the USPTO patent was apparently granted.

Patent Number: US 9,713,349. Granted on July 25, 2017.

I think the link just goes to the general website.

Here is the transcript:

When purchasing socks, most people generally do not think about the total protection they provide. Socks are used for more than just padding and cushioning, they serve as a barrier between the shoes and the feet. A good pair of socks can help absorb some of the pounding suffered by feet and ankles, reduce soreness following physical activities, and prevent foot conditions like calluses, blisters, and fungal infection.

What to look for in a good pair of socks

Finding good socks is not as easy as choosing the most expensive brand. Socks need to be comfortable, and they should also be suited to the proper activity and use.

Here are a few things to consider when picking out socks:

Do not purchase socks without trying them on first.
If you are an athlete, try to find socks designed specifically for your sport.
Look for a high thread count (denser socks repel moisture and protect the feet for longer periods).
Look for socks with a reinforced heel and toe.
Look for socks with cushion sole support.
Make sure to buy the proper sock size; your toes should reach the seam, and the heel padding should hit your heel in the proper place.
Issues created by improper sock fit

Finding a pair of properly fitting shoes is one of the best ways to prevent foot injury, and a pair of good socks an provide extra insurance against injury. Unfortunately, the opposite is also true; poorly fitting socks can cause blisters, calluses, and abrasions.

Socks that are too tight often trap moisture; this can lead to fungal development and conditions like athlete's foot and toenail fungus. Socks with insufficient cushioning also pose problems for athletes, particularly anyone who plays sports that require pounding feet on pavement and jumping.

A good pair of socks will keep feet cool, dry, and comfortable. To avoid blisters, hot spots, abrasions, and fungal growth, look for socks that wick away moisture and cause less friction and irritation.

After reading The Big Kahuna remarks on the Double Impact Socks, I bought a pair and tried them. They are remarkable. They are very good socks. After playing in them I was actually surprised how good they are. They are definitely one of the best socks on the market. My ankle felt very secure in the socks, and as weird as it sounds my lower back felt better during play.

Thanks for code. I purchased a pair to try them. They arrived today. Will try them in the near future. But I must say they could cut and lower the price by not giving you the bag to store them in and the bag to wash them in. That was a surprise.

The packaging is unprecedented I must agree. That said try the socks and look forward to your thoughts. I just bought six more pairs.

I will try them sometime this week. I have usta matches five nights this week. Not sure if I should do that on a match that counts. Two pairs feels kind of weird to me. But it might just take a couple of minutes to get used to them.

I’ve worn just about everything out there is nothing compares to these in terms of moisture management, support, cushioning, and comfort.

I also see right now that they have a introductory discount promotion running. If the code: ELSO20 is used, shoppers would automatically recieve a 20% discount.

First night out with the Elso DSS on outdoor hard court and then a run after. Incredible, comfortable, incredible fit, snug bu not overly tight (unlike the Nike Elite which were way too tight) and moisture wicking was awesome(I have extremely sweaty feet). I usually wear Thorlo Level 3 or a combo of Nike Elite with Thorlo Level 3 over them, The Elso DSS' blew them both away. When you get the package and see what you're getting for the price, you will be very happy.

is this sock thicker than Goldtoe Tennis socks ? if you wear 2 pairs of Goldtoe Tennis socks, this is probably less thick, I imagine. but I want something lighter, 2 pairs of Goldtoe tennis sock weighs a lot. should I buy this instead ? if so, where do I buy this ?

Yes. The two pairs are meant to work together and compliment each other - not just two pairs of the same socks that just doubles your padding everywhere uniformly.

Check out their website to understand even better.

If you're not familiar with Double Impact socks, the socks specify which foot each sock is for. It's like a shoe now, the socks have strategically cushioned zones for the left and right foot to provide support and comfort. It's a little sick and twisted to think that your right sock doesn't work with your left foot, huh? I know. But you can tell the difference.

You can see the extra padding in the sock's design. There is cushioning where athletes cut and slide their foot, extra padding around the ankle and Achilles so shoes don't beat 'em up and the ribbing across the mid-foot gives for a larger range of motion. In other words, it looks like a sock—specialized.

Worth the money.

Sorry. I am just a huge fan of the socks - and I am very particular. I will also say that I’m a fan of the company as their service has been remarkable. You can pick up the phone and talk to the owner anytime you want. Very hands-on and great customer service.

The Big Kahuna, I see you're a big fan of the Double Impact Socks. I did try them back in April of 2018, and they have been working very well for me. It would be nice though if they had additional colors. With that being said the product is good. There is a good article about wearing two socks as tennis players.

Thanks! The concept is not new, obviously, ELSO just took it to a new level IMO.

I have had the ELSO double impact socks for about 6 weeks. They are worth every penny. My feet, Achilles, and legs in general feel great. My feet don't get as tired. I also got the bike riding sock and think they are amazing.

They have white, they have black, and they have black with white. Perhaps make a suggestion via their website that there should be other colors. I found their customer service to be very responsive.
