Which is that one thing that makes you hate a tennis player?

You can always say you don't like cold weather or that you are not too keen on cold weather. Better yet, focus on what you really like. Why associate with negative emotion?

And yes, we can always control our emotion if we try again and again. Eventually, you will get there or at least, that's the idea.

And I am not judging you but suit yourself by all means. I know how that goes. You are just one of those cases where you feel comfortable dishing it out but unable to take it back. You will learn, eventually. Or so I hope.

I’m doing this already thank you very much.

But if you haven’t noticed, this thread is about "what makes you hate" a tennis player, so focusing on what we really like would be nonsensical.

So stop acting like you know a single thing about me. I am who I am and I’m happy with that.

I think so. Good points here. It's easier to hate than love and was more useful in more dangerous times.

Now this is a fascinating point. I’ve sometimes needed to find an explanation of where my position on the matter comes from. I think the nature of my lifestyle entails optimism and positivity being a survival instinct.

Increasingly, in a globalized world where you wander off further and further from the place you grew up, you have to be more positive about the differences.

I put myself in positions where the slightest cue of openness means I’m going to barge in with optimism to wedge open a door to some new adventure of discovery, and I don’t think for people that travel and live abroad this would be unfamiliar.

If you want to stay at home, safe and secure, hate probably works quite well. But if you’re inclined to go out there and engage with the world, up and close, positivity becomes an ingrained survival instinct.

I don't frankly (and don't want to) other than the fact that you hate Zverev by your own admission. And if this thread ends up focusing on hating someone I really like, in this case Zverev, than it's more than likely that I will take the measure to protect it.

Now I can take you down in a minute if you consider this an argument but I won't. You are too easy.

It's always very literal in threads like these. I think the majority of us don't actually hate the players. I don't like watching Troicki, so I'll name him in a similar sort of thread. I "dislike" Troicki, I "dislike" watching Troicki would be closer.

Yes, I can agree with that but let's change the scenario and let's say I created the thread with a similar title and targetted Federer as my centre of hatred. Now that's a game changer.

You know you guys could start your own thread to have a conversation. Really it's allowed.

And @StANDAA this isn't directed at you.

Back on topic...

Other things that can make me hate a tennis player:

Occasionally his/her fans but I try to resist that because it's not the players fault.
And only since I joined here - hearing about some of their off court exploits. I liked a lot of players more before I know that kind of 'stuff' about them.
Over-selling their sexuality. This is male and female, I don't think any of us have to think to hard to come up with players that have done that.

You are of course aware @Zara has been nominated for 2018’s most accomplished derailer right?

The moment she gushed on about candied apples and pink sweaters I’m afraid the course of this thread took a detour to lovetown.

Apologies @StANDAA , hate will need to wait its turn, love is in season.

It's nothing to be proud of. No one is asking you guys to not have convos off topic but could you stick to maybe 1/2 of the threads to do it on? Or if you find a topic outside of the thread that you want to discuss why not start your own thread?

She’s so accomplished she got my recent thread deleted for a derailment, because she was spewing off-topic nonsense in the last 10 pages. Thanks Zara.

Lmho! I derail threads I don't like if you notice the pattern. The thing is, not too many will say they hate Federer for this or that. It's quite predictably going to be Zverev, Nadal, Murray and Nole. Tennis haters thrive on it

It takes two to tango but in this case, there were quite a few but you are willing to pour all your hatred on me only. In fact, you were childish enough to claim you own thread on an internet forum.

But anyway, please continue with your hatred.

What? I was never arrested for anything let alone being drunk on a bicycle. Why are you making this up?

And I am not even sure which thread you are talking about. I mean just wow

You are going to have to prove this or else I am taking this to Mod.

Sorry, I know you’re being genuine here but I am laughing at the thought of someone managing getting a thread lopped off by way of a bicycle act.

On a more serious note, I would say this is an issue with the mods here and their sloppy moderating. Surely threads flow freely wherever they may, the best ones do anyhow. The mods should be more involved with the community.

She's just coming off as a very jealous person for some reason. That's not my story. She must have confused me with someone else. I haven't been on a bicycle in a while and I am never that drunk. And I was never arrested for anything in my life so that's quite the fabricated story she's building up there.

Oh and I can't believe I forgot:

Zverev and the belly flash after every single point.
Players that get illegal coaching in the middle of the match
Players that take obvious fake injury time outs.

I think threads should go about the way it goes as long as a bunch of people are happy discussing the topic. Another bunch can always stick to topic but I like randomness and goofy discussions (Oddballs @Zara ;) )

A lot of that Zverev brings on himself. Some of it gets a little blown out of proportion. He asked for a lot of it too though.

He doesn't because he doesn't hate himself. It's people who take issues with him so those are mostly their problems. Murray gets a lot of hatred too (and Nadal too) around here and on other forums too. It can get very annoying for his fans. I think if you see this from the point of a player's fan, then you will see what I mean. At least fans of other players not named Federer aren't so quick to pour hatred towards others though there might be a few exceptions to those as well.

Besides, this thread will not go down very well anyway because its premise is wrong. When I say I hate this or that about this player then fans of those players are very likely to defend them and rightfully so. And this is an open forum so no particular thread belongs to a particular group of people. You have the conversations for it.

Well, some posters have gone too far as to make up stories about me. I am still cool but think that if they are going to make up fake stories and God knows what then it's just time for me to say bye bye love again. I can't say though that I didn't have fun. :)

Ayuh! You are right though, threads with a negative premise won't end well but I have stopped responding to posts targeting a player and so cannot be triggered.

You're lying, you were talking about getting arrested for drunk bicycling in Amsterdam. No one but you would make up an odd story like that.

I have things that trigger me too. I've fell to some as of late. I get what you're saying except with Zverev it crosses over into every fan base. Not just Federer fans. I'd be prepared to hear it until he makes a change.

When I said earlier I owed you a response it came off knowing how I feel when I put in an effort to communicate, something involving another person's benefit, and its met with a muted response.

Twice with Ann I've made such an effort [different threads, different circumstances] and twice it's been responded to with, what I assume in its best possible interpretation, indifference. This is wholly her own prerogative and choice, but it does leave me questioning whether or not a third time is deserving of a similar effort.

Personally speaking, on above, I think any made up stories/confusion about you getting internet threads derailed on your bicycle are kind of charming.

Not a bad reputation at all to live with.

Enviable really.

You didn't make any effort, you just went on and on and on and I couldn't run away fast enough.

Look we don't like each other. I'll put you on ignore. Problem solved.

Kindly put me on ignore too along with 100 others.

But I have got nothing against you if I am to be honest. I am just not sure why you'd think that story belonged to me. Hopefully, the true owner of the story will come forward and own it. Things will then remain explained for you. But it's not cool to accuse people of things they are not part of especially if the intention is to make them look bad.

You're already on ignore. I've had you there for weeks. I clicked on the show ignore posts tonight when everyone started responding to a mystery person and I saw it was you. Then Hydro and Azure followed suit and I started reading more. There aren't 100 people here that annoy me. I know when you're posting (even on ignore) because the thread starts going to crap and I just move on to another one. I should have done that with this one too. Mark this thread dead and buried and just move on. Now moving on....

Right. I think that will create a lot of jokes in the future as charming and endearing as it sounds. Part of me does hope I was on that bicycle. I mean if I am going to do the time I might as well do the crime.

But seriously, I think I've had enough fun for one month. Time to hit the sack again.

Then let's put each other on ignore since we don't like each other. Goodbye and good luck.

@Ann part of my issue has been your hastiness to arrive at snap decisions. A good example is the above.

Nowhere was it mentioned that that I did not like you. I find yours to be a style difficult to find common ground with, the language becomes terse without even knowing what the problems are, you hardly bother with explanations. Your first and usually last response is often to be offended, its the important bits in the middle I'm also interested in.

I'm not going to put you on ignore. That would feel like a failing for me.

No go on this I am afraid.

I'm going to make myself available to you to explain my views with as much courtesy and civility, and clarity as you ask for. That's my choice.

What you decide to do across someone as willfully stubborn as me and if you ask at all, is your choice.

Ann should have really apologised to me before putting me on ignore. I mean I would if I blamed someone for something they didn't do and isn't that a decent thing to do anyway? And yet, she acts holier than thou.

I don't need the apology but I would have liked to see that side of her given the act.

I completely agree, I think it’s extremely important to look for reasons why we might have gotten something incorrect when the outcome in question can lead to a positive result.

You do yourself absolutely no favours being negative.

Interesting derailment of a thread.

We ought to have more of these things.

You can see the true human psyche when you derail a thread. I've seen worse however but yes, it's very interesting.
