Good string for Phantom Pro 100

What string did you choose for your PP100?
Stiff or soft poly? Shaped or round? Multi? Hybrid?
I play only on clay and I want to maximize spin and control. With top comfort and good durability/tension maintenance.
I'm 4.0/4.5 player.

I think the green Prince poly (xp I believe)
@ 46 lbs is pretty nice.

Would recommend either 16 or even 15 l given the open pattern on the phantom.

Main downside is it does have a "plasticky" feel.

Yeah, green XP would look so well in the Phantom! But is it not too firm?...

I thought about these:

Signum Pro X-perience
Head Lynx
Prince Diablo
Prince Vortex
HDX

Give me more suggestions, Phantom players!! :D

Really like sidewinder 17g but I don't break string really fast so ymmv. I recently tested a Signum pro yellow jacket 16g and thought it was a nice string if you like thicccc

Most I know who play with the Phantom’s tend to string with NG. Typically something like a VS Touch. If price is an issue, maybe consider a hybrid with poly combination.

The idea that clay means no gut was probably sound advice 30 years ago. I’m not sure where you live or how old you are, but most premium gut strings like VS are coated nowadays. I only say that because some of the “old timers” tend to have some goofy equipment beliefs. (I don’t mean that to sound offensive, as I’m 40 years old myself. lol)

Unless you’re playing on wet clay (which is bad for other reasons), Babolat VS Touch is a viable option.

40yo here too. But tried VS Touch/Max Power Rough last week and it lasted me only 3hours..... Coating is not indestructible...

I switched to the PP100 because i am having elbow pain. So I have to stay away from poly. I tried volk classic syn gut when i first got it just to try and find what tension i liked. 52lbs. I really liked it but cut it out because i figured, if like cheap syn gut im gonna love my normal multi which is head velocity. Gotta say... i didn’t love it. Its not bad but i think i might like the regular syn gut better.

Its strange how different frames react differently to different strings. I really loved velocity in my graphene speed mp, but not so much in the PP 100.

I also switch to PP100 to preserve my arm and because I need control frame over power frame for my spin game.
But I think poly not too firm with thin gauge and low tension cannot be a problem with so arm friendly frame. In my case, it could never be as firm as with my Pure Aero......
Did you tried soft poly with your PP100?

No. I still feel arm pain with the PP100 even with multi. So regardless of how soft the poly is, its going to be stiffer than velocity.

I'm digging round polys in the PP100. Shaped polys tend to give me a higher launch angle and less movement through the court, so as the PP100 already has a high launch angle and plenty of spin on tap, I think round polys work better. Currently I'm enjoying Prince XP and Kirshbaum Evolution. Playabilty is pretty similar, but the former certainly offers a crisper feel. I'm stringing 48-50, and this coming from a generally low tension guy. I'm just able to go for my shots more at this tension, while still offering a pocketing feel and not being rough on the ole arm.

I will first try HDX 15L because my arm need rest, and my banker too!! :p
What tension would you recommend with PP100?

For durability & tension, I suggest you go for Isospeed Cream & Gosen OG-Sheep Micro.

I would suggest signum pro x-perience.The most comfortable poly i have played and it comes in green,if you care about your phantom's cosmetics

It is the first I suggested. ;)
Tension maintenance is correct?
Yes very good.Even though I own the ported phantom, which allows a lot more string movement than the traditional grommet rackets, i have not noticed anything after six hours of play.Comfort and power, that is what i mainly gain from signum's pro latest offering.

Don't use a rough cross.

Smooth poly only.

I'm playing Gut/Cream in my Phantom 100 on clay and it still looks good on hour 5. Little bit of fraying but that's typical of gut.

Maybe I would try... ;)
Is it real that many Phantom's are under spec??

Back from the stringer and I asked 53/51lbs (24/23kg) for HDX 15L and Multifeel 15L in my new PP100. Hope it will play well... Not too powerful or not too harsh.......

Probably could have even gone lower tension with 15g string. My wife has the multifeel 17 at 54/52 lbs and certainly isn't feeling overpowered by it.

I find I'm going lower and lower in tensions on my phantoms and getting better and better results.

That PP100 is a dream!!!! Played 2 hours and my arm from wrist to shoulder feel SO good!!!! Incredible pleasure to play with this magical frame!!!!!!!! Control is awesome!!!!!! Strong spin/slice are so easy to generate!!!! Kick serve are KICKING!!!
And I played with multi 15L gauge.... I can't imagine what I will do with thinner gauge of poly!!!!!
HDX is really better than Multifeel. Grab the ball so well!!! HDX is fantastic for arm friendly setup with PP100 with ton of spin and control!! But 16g or 17g would be better choice.
WOW as you can see I'm so happy..... Best buy I did for long!!!!! :p
Now I will try Double AR Diablo 17 and Signum Pro X-perience 17 at 46/42lbs (21/19kg). I'm pretty sure that a good poly in this fantastic frame will not hurt my arm like the Pure Aero did.....
What gauge and tension would you all suggest for that (again) MARVELOUS Phantom Pro 100!!!!!!!! :D

The pro is nice, I almost switched to it but got pushed around by players a bit better than me with heavy FHs.

I would see how it plays against higher competition before changing anything.

I am not sure, but I think the Prince Phantom Pro 100 is not an ideal raquet for fullbed of poly strings, also not with low tension. I tried many strings, but nothing plays so magical like Vs/RPM 24,5Kg/23Kg

I break VS Touch 16 with poly cross in 3hours on clay. I play only on clay.
And why no fb of good and not too stiff poly in PP100?? This frame is so easy on the arm... I will try Cyclone 1.15, Hyper-G 1.15, Double AR Diablo 1.24 and Signum Pro X-perience 1.18. If I feel real pain, I will stop poly forever and go for HDX 17 or 16.

You'll find compared to the Pure Aero that the Phantom will not break strings so easily. The stiffer flex and spin effect grommet system in the Babolats are string killers. So I wouldn't be too worried about clay and gut/poly. I used to break VS/poly on clay in 8-10hrs with my Pure Drive. Tonic lasted about 15 hrs. With my Phantoms and 17g Legend playing on clay, I've not come close to breaking a string in over 10 hrs and counting.

But see where soft co-poly's take you. If they are too harsh, do not fear gut/poly in the Phantoms. I'm working my way up slowly from FB Origin to Origin/Velocity to Gut/ Cream. If the arm is good, I'll try some 18g smooth stiffer poly like Max Power. If arm starts to hurt, dial it down again. The Phantoms at least make experimentation reasonable again.

You should try Signum Pro X-perience 17L... :)

Can you compare this to any other polys? I have a set that I've yet to try out.
Can't wait to try that X-perience 17L in my PP100. I'm pretty sure it will give little extra free power and terrific spin!! It could really be the perfect complement for that frame.

Well, I cannot say that it has outrageous spin. For example, t1 firewire and Dunlop black widow provide more. But it is the most comfortable poly I have played with good power and great tension stability. Previous string I used, was spiky shark but overall, I find x-perience superior.
