Kerber to Andreescu: you're the biggest drama queen ever"

I just finished watching the highlights of the kerber Andreescu match and heard kerber say to her, "you're the biggest drama queen ever", at the net.
I'm a huge Kerber fan, but that sort of bitchyness is totally inappropriate and uncalled for.
She is usually so humble and should just accept that she lost to a better player. Bianca is on the rise and is not going away anytime soon.

I haven't heard much about this exchange in the news just yet, but feel like if Serena or someone else had done it, it would be in the headlines.

Come on Angie, you won 3 slams, at 3 different tournaments you should be grateful for the career you've had so far.

You should be ashamed of yourself girl!

Apparently, according to another poster, the full remark was "You're the biggest drama queen ever. Well done."

The funny thing was that Andreescu could not hear the remarks, although she was aware that Kerber was upset about something.

Andreescu responded later, "I'll just let my tennis do the talking.", a classy response to childish anger.

I hope that the fans at this year's Canadian Open are in a good mood and give Kerber a polite welcome.

That is a good question.

Some posters have suggested that Andreescu took a medical timeout (just one), like that is some sort of crime? And no other tennis player ever takes a medical

timeout? She had stiff shoulder muscles from last week. Sounds like a massage was in order.

She was well within the rules.

Andreescu had cramps in last week's final. Is that not a good reason to get a massage? I always thought so.

Nothing adds up to Kerber's remark.

Andreescu makes the odd fist pump. Is that unusual? Are rookie pros forbidden from making any gestures? Not that I know of.

I cannot see any good reason for Kerber's act.

The "female Ferrer" has done well for herself, a player with limited talent who won 3 majors in an era totally lacking top quality players. She obviously loses her share of matches every year and this just looked like another one. So i wonder what triggered this uncharacteristic outburst today?

Maybe things have been going on in the locker room?

I don't know. I haven't watched the match, that is why I asked.

As for your question: no, neither cramps, nor massage are a good reason for a MTO. I don't know whether there was a MTO, or for what it was taken though.

There was one MTO, only one, related to her shoulder, and some massages during a crossover...all completely within the rules. No one complained or challenged.

It must be something else. Like too much media attention for the new star on the block.

Those who watched the match saw ONE MTO for a shoulder problem, and two brief massages during a cross over, both legitimately within the rules.

No one complained, no one protested, this is standard in tennis, no problem.

Kerber just did not like the result, 18 year old rookies are not supposed to do this, beat the Wimbledon champion twice a week.

And get special media attention.

Kerber wasn't being a sore loser, she was complimenting Andreescu on her gamesmanship. Andreescu has taken the Delpro style of 'playing possum' to new levels. She's always out of breath, on the verge of cramping and generally just one racket stroke away from deaths door. She uses MTO's as a way to affect the direction of the match, and draw the crowd and commentators over to her side. At 18 she shows a remarkable talent for knowing what to 'stage' to create a win.

I love Kerber for her work ethic. That said, she is too often bitter that others with more talent defeat her. It is sad, but I don't think she would have earned the three slams she has without that chip on her shoulder. I'd rather have her with three slams and the chip than slamless with a smile for every defeat.

Low class from Kerber, really. This is simply her not taking losing to an 18 year old kid two weeks in a row very well, and there's no "competitiveness" excuse for it IMO. It's bul.lshit, and all it is, is an underhanded play to get in Bianca's head for the next time they play.

I can guarantee you she wouldn't have said that to say, Serena or Sharapova, even though it probably holds more truth in both of those cases.

If sirena had said it, you wouldn't need to hear it on the news--you'd hear it all over the planet as she shouted it out--and, then she would lie about having ever said it in the same breath, after a stadium full of people heard her and all the viewing public. Didn't hear the Kerber exchange at the handshake, but she had the class to keep it between her and her green young opponent.

Also, Kerber never would have won a slam in the 2000-2008 era

Anyone remember the set & score when Bianca took the MTO?

I vaguely remember that Kerber herself was talking to someone that appeared to be the trainer, but maybe it was just a consultation without actually taking the MTO.

That seems to be what prompted Kerbers comment.

We agree or disagree with Kerber, but thanks for the post and clarifying what happened

Just the simple fact that Kerber lost to same player twice in a week. And she should have and could havr won both matches

I think Kerber was in a bad mood and was being snarky, but you make a great point about Andreescu. She is an unusually strategic player and I don't doubt some of that gasping and limping and massaging between points is done for effect. She plays too well in the points to be seriously hurt or fatigued.

Im telling you these Generation Z kids are way more gutsy and ballsy than the pathetic, wimpy 90's Millenials.

They are made of much more tougher and hardened stuff. I like her.

These guys are going to sweep aside the 90's kids when it comes to Tennis and it will be a truly lost generation that won sweet FA.

I just watched highlights with her and Kerber.

Prediction: once the tour gets used to her extreme moonballing she will have severe problems with keeping up with the top guns.

Her movement is also quite suspect.

Nah no respect is needed, Kyrgios was right about not needing to respect the big 3 on court, we dont need any more were all friends, we all like each other, we all want each other to do well stuff.

We want rivalries, we want some needle between players, we want to watch 2 players play that dont like each other.

Now the next time Kerber meets Andreescu its going to be even more interesting.

It's certainly obvious that Andreescu is not intimidated by Kerber - and she can be a little obnoxious - last week she bounced some balls to the other end after games that actually hit Kerber - never seen that before! Seemed a bit rude. But, I do enjoy her game, moon balling and all (speaking of moon balling, I watched an Agassi/Edberg match from back in the day last week and guess who was moon balling like crazy? Mr. Agassi). It's nice to see some more variety. And, if she is a prodigy when it comes to playing possum, she's following in illustrious footsteps. Anyway, good for her that she was able to do it again - too bad for Kerber that she got a little bent out of shape about it, but that's OK too. onward and upward.
