Fucsovics says, "US Open Court speed is quite faster than last year"

Confirmed on Eurosports today during a Podcast, Fucsovics has been practicing with Federer on Ashe this week and said:

"The courts are playing moderately fast in practice, quite faster than last year. Not as fast as Cincy, but not as slow as Winston Salem. I'd say moderate speed with lowish bounce. Courts will get faster by next week and with more play on them."

I don't have a link because I listened to to live, maybe someone else will have it.

That's like the 4th or 5th report about them being faster this year.

I'm actually starting to believe it now :)

Lets wait until we hear from the only players to win majors in years

The riff raff knows what the riff raff knows. Riff raff.

I knew once Cahill confirmed, then McEnroe, then Gilbert, now Fucsovics.

Fucsovics has been Fed's practice partner this week, he's on Ashe, he should know.

I was intrigued by the other reports, but as much as I trust someone like Cahill, it was still coming 2nd hand. He wasn't the one playing. And even if it was true, that doesn't mean it was the case on Ashe.

Fucsovics' comments are exactly the kind of confirmation I was hoping for.

Good. I just want something a little faster than what they had last year (and a few years before that even!).

Lol @ the Fed fans..... remember what happened at wimbly???
You mean having match points to win it on a low bouncing fastish court?

If this is true, and I am still not completely sold yet, it is good conditions for Fed (Djoker won't care either way). I feel Fed would want a medium fast court with low bounce.

That seems like that is the word on the street. But the humidity is the real issue I am concerned about.

Remember how everyone was saying Wimbledon was SOOooooOOoooo slooOOOooowwww this year? Green clay FOR SURE? Even though there were hardly any long rallies.

Now that's all been swept under the rug.

Wimbledon was slow this year and there were tons of long rallies, what are you talking about? There was virtually no serve and volleying from anyone. Both Fed and Djokovic confirmed it was slow.

I really hope the OP's report is verified as being true. The US open used to be my favourite slam because it was medium fast - which encouraged aggressive tennis, which is more attractive to watch.

Considering his well known payoff schemes and high stakes gambling we cant take his word for it.

I mean he coached a player best known for representing a surface that was most prominent in the Third Reich and supporters of the Third Reich including France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Japan and all its territories which includes almost all of East Asia, all the Balkan countries, the third world South American countries from all of South America because they are all third world, and so on.

Imagine being tied to anyone from those places. You are practically scum if from any of the above.

This sense of optimism is not being reflected in betting odds where Federer remains third, considerably behind Nadal at 2nd.

TTWians loves to live in their own microcosm.

The odds don't change the facts. Nadal hasn't defeated Fedovic on HC in years. Not saying he can't, but let's be realistic.

Hope it rains during the SF and Final.
Maybe hope for injuries as well when your at it?
If it’s Rafa you are worried about, keep on worrying, rain doesn’t stop him in there. He has said court so big a closed roof has no impact.

So what does this mean?
Why do you want it faster?
Federer is now a lock for the title?

This. x10

A moderately fast surface will make for more interesting matches throughout the draw and test all the favorites. Cakewalk draws are the bane to increasing interest in the sport and that’s what US tennis needs to help get back on track. Sixteen years without a native champion is too long. If it’s true, it’s about time for USTA to wake up and smell the coffee.

Let’s hope USO’19 is as excite as AO’17 was with upsets early and lots of dramatic 5-set wins all the way to the final.

Indoor-like conditions will favor Federer. Is it so wrong to hope for something that would increase the old man's chance?

riiiiiiight, it was the 'upsets' that you liked so much about AO 17

FYI, Canada was fast just a couple of weeks ago and Nadal won it!

so don't get too excited.

You’re implying something I did knot intend based on the result of AO’17. I was excited about upsets early and often because I’m a tennis fan first and a fedr fan far behind that. Having watched tennis before fedr was even born gives me a deeper perspective than you will ever enjoy.

That’s a nice sign for sure. Because surely Fucsovics has spoken about the speed with Federer before. So even if Fucsovics maybe doesn’t have much comparison from the Ashe court from past years, then surely Federer has.

The only question is: How good is the memory of a surface speed from 12 months ago after a full year of playing on different surfaces with different impressions.

For me often it’s only possible to compare with the surface I played on just before. I only need like 3-5 matches to find clay not that slow anymore or indoor court not that fast. The real impression always comes with a sudden change.

More importantly, lower ranked players can avoid getting injured in a grind fest.

It doesn’t favour him cause it’s not indoor conditions. The stadium so big a closed roof got very little impact. It’s not like Wimbledon. Rafa said it has no difference when the roof is on in NY.

Not just lower ranked players. Didn’t Nadal have to retire and basically shut it down for the rest of 2018 as a result of the KhachBasilThiem gauntlet? I want him healthy for the money rounds if he can get there.

And what exactly happened to Federer when he played on fast HC this year? Right, he lost to Rublev and Tsitsipas.

Don’t get too excited, Feddys. The Millman experience is coming.

Perhaps I will save this thread for later. Will see how maestronians like faster conditions after the Millman experience.
