Hospitals getting crushed is one of the main issue. It's not like Italy doesn't have flu every year.

I am defying all government edicts and advisories so far and keeping my club open through thick and thin. I've told employees "no work, no pay", and revised my previous sick note policy so that a sick note is required any time an employee calls in, rather than three days in a month as it was before.
As I am getting all the traffic from other clubs that have closed, my goal is to be the last club standing in the end, and to effectively have the monopoly on club tennis in my locale when this is all said and done.

The original organization behind our tennis group bailed, but the members are keeping it going with the usual meeting times and places.

I believe the club near me is still open. But a case just popped up in the next town over, so it won't be long until it is shutdown.

We know there was an amended OC Health Order issued last night and many members have asked if that means we are able to stay open. The answer is no, we will stay closed until March 31st, or whenever the order lifts. The health and safety of our members and employees is paramount, therefore we can't in good conscious risk any sort of exposure in or around NBTC.
Because COVID-19 can be spread even by those not exhibiting symptoms, there is no way we could adequately protect our members, pros, staff, all students and community at large. Moreover, there is no way we could properly enforce proper social distancing in a club environment.
We implore our members to please heed the warnings of government officials, and follow the proper precautions set forth. You aren't just protecting you and your family, you will also be protecting the entire community, including our most vulnerable. We are currently working to best support our employees and their families at this time.
We must make these sacrifices now. We pray for the health and safety of our entire nation during this challenging time and we wish you and your family the best.

Depends how long the waiting list is. No way I’d give up my membership to my yacht club - would be the better part of a decade til I got back in.

Depends how long this goes on for. For a few months only? You could be right. Six months or more...those other clubs are paying rent/property taxes, upkeep, insurance, various fixed costs and overhead, all with no revenue coming in. All they save on is labour costs. They will be underwater if this goes on for 8 months or more.
Longer this stretches on for, the bigger the pool of unemployed applicants. In one door and out the other, replacements are easy to find when unemployment is upwards of 5%. I'm not worried.
Club is still open, no refunds on court time for pros, so if pros don't show up they get burned on both ends. The industrious ones will find ways to keep clients playing. Tennis isn't a crowded sport so one of the safer activities you can do with corona restrictions, so I expect they'll make that pitch to their regulars.

Nice facility. Would imagine they'd be closed up too though.
My HOA started locking the courts and making you go in the clubhouse to get a key because people were skateboarding and using them as dog parks. Last week when they announced that the clubhouse would be closed, I wrote the the woman and asked if the courts could be unlocked because tennis is one sport you can actually play at a proper social distance, and they actually did it, so at least our community courts are open. My son was trying out for the JV team at his high school, so I've been hitting with him every day that's been OK weather.

Thanks. They had one match and now the season is indefinitely suspended. I doubt there will be any more this year. He's never played competitively, as he's always been in travel soccer, but he dropped club soccer now that he is on the HS team and for the first time in 10 years, he had a free spring season, so he told me in December that he wanted to go out for the tennis team. He's had about 6 lessons with a local pro and I hit with him when we can, but that's the extent of his tennis experience. He was taught good mechanics for his ground strokes and can rally pretty well for a beginner, but he hasn't gotten consistent enough with his serve yet to really compete in matches. He is a varsity level athlete in soccer and was made one of the captains of the strength and conditioning drills even though he could barely play the game, so he was proud of that. If he sticks with it, I give it 3 years before he can beat me like a drum.

my son and daughter both played High School Tennis, my daughter earned herself a full D1 scholarship to play.
I remember the exact day each one beat me.
my son was Junior (wish we’d known more about Jr Tennis when he was playing, he might’ve gotten a partial scholarship).
my daughter, who learned from me and her older brother who’s had a big serve and a monster forehand that he refused to ease up on her...she was sophomore, and was the number one player on her varsity team.
Btw they both walked home from the courts on those days.

My club I thought would be closed as NV has shut down everything "non-essential" BUT they are in fact open.
Limited hours. 8am-12noon and 3:30-7:45pm
The clubhouse is totally closed ... you come in outside through the gate, a window for the front desk.
Bathrooms/lobby/locker rooms are all closed.
Bring your own water .... nothing on the court.
Every door/gate has either been removed or set to only be propped open ... so no need to touch anything
Clinics are maximum 6 players per court ....have changed to nearly 100% liveball drills rather than anything involving a line
Can reserve a court ... maximum 4 person per court.
It is only outdoors.
We will see how long it lasts.

Just got another email today, my club was going to reopen on 3/23, but now it's been pushed back to 3/30 at the earliest.
They are still figuring out compensation for the next 7 days for the full time employees(like myself), but assessing moving forward

What concerns me is the end game here. After we ride out the "wave" of the next two weeks and the current isolation measures show thier effect - to what degree can the economy re-engage? Will restuarants and bars come back? Maybe? Probably not? Hard to guess. Manufacturing? Almost certainly. Service jobs? Theatres? Sports? eh... not so much... Its just hard to figure how this won't be an immense drag on the economy until we have a vaccine implemented in over a year. And every unemployed person has a multiplicative effect b/c 1) they aren't producing anything, 2) the Gov has to support them (not thier fault) and 3) their discretionary buying power is out of the market. Consumer confidence has to be at an ALL TIME low right now. It'll be interesting. I'd love for it to be just 4 weeks but I can't see it. I think the fallout will be worse than 9/11 by a decent margin. The best solution I can come up with is to literally FREEZE contractual obligations including mortgages and student loans and rent and debt... And just pretend that the next 12-18 months never happened after we get out of this.

There's also chances of various other cures or treatments. I've read articles about various things in clinical trials - there's a chance that on a shorter timescale (a few months maybe?) some existing drugs will be proven to work against COVID and then that will help get us back faster.
Certainly not a few weeks, though.

My small club in a London suburb is open. Spring tournament cancelled. Coaching still on but noticed that where they had like 12 kids per session it’s now around 3. Some clubs here I know have cancelled all organised social tennis and group coaching, My mate who belongs to a bigger health club with large tennis section tried to cancel his £95 a month membership. He’s been offered three months free membership, that club has laid off many staff.
All League play is suspended as are postal and weekend tournaments for singles.
I’ll be using my ball machine.

One facility where I attend clinics is still open but you can't have more than 12 people on a court [seems a bit high to me if you want to keep distance].
The other facility is still open, last I heard. Nearby park with 8 courts is closed; another with 6 is still open [as of Sunday].

The park we were at yesterday, which I think has 15 courts, was packed with mostly doubles plays, so ~60 players and their friends and people for several other activities. I suspect there were at least 100-120 people in the park. It felt so good to be on court frankly under bright skies and open air.

After all the pics I saw of Miami beaches I'm getting more convinced that America doesn't have the right stuff to shut this thing down. California seems to be the only State being proactive. New York has missed their opportunity and will be the next Italy. Florida is clueless.
I don't think I know the answers to this pandemic but I think in another week North America is going to be feeling the full brunt. I feel a bit like Noah as people laughed at him while he built his ark. Sadly "I told you so's" offer no satisfaction when people are dropping like flies.

I think Florida is trying to be clever: it didn't shut things down early because that would have impacted tourism revenue. Now they might shut things down but it's a bit late. With exponential math, every day counts. It's inaccurate to say the horse has already left the barn; better would be a bunch of horses have already left the barn but there are a lot more still inside.
Spain made the same mistake, not cancelling several large festivals while it's highly likely they knew various deaths were CV-related but they didn't release that info until later.
Who knows how many other countries are making the same mistake.
OTOH, maybe I can take a long vacation in Singapore, who is the gold standard in how to deal with a pandemic. Then again, they probably wouldn't let my flight land.

There are two high schools within a couple miles of my house with 5 courts each and the weather has been beautiful all week. I've popped out to hit for an hour each day with my wife, daughter, or just to hit a couple buckets of serves by myself. Every single time, the courts have been completely full and I've had to wait for an opening. And this has been at various times of the day; morning, noon, and afternoon.
A lot of the people playing are folks I recognize from the two clubs nearby that were forced to close. I have also seen a couple teaching pros from those places giving lessons. I overheard one saying that his club is paying his base pay until the end of March and that he was on his own after that, so he was trying to keep his clients going for as long as he can. The other players on the courts seem to be a lot of the high school kids who have had their schools shut down and tennis seasons ended, but still want to play. Most, like my daughter, are restless and want to have some fun activity to do. The last group that I've seen a lot of are complete beginners, usually a family out bunting the ball around. You usually don't see those types of folks except for around the couple weeks when Wimbledon or the US Open are on TV. Overall, seeing all these courts being used like this makes me happy because it shows that tennis is not a dying sport like it sometimes seems. And we need positive and healthy things going on right now instead of huddling in our houses and clutching our pearls all the time.

I lived there for two years. Remarkable how they run their country. By no means a perfect place, but the food is mind-blowing. There were two nice tennis courts steps away from my apartment building. Good times.
As of now, If you flew there direct from the U.S with no symptoms you'd be allowed to enter, but you'd have to stay in your hotel for 14 days, and I'm sure they'd enforce it well:

FYI it lasted from the 16th until the 20th .... now by governor mandate closed down.
City/County parks are not currently padlocked so that is where the players will be found.
I have decided that this is the perfect time for me to change to playing singles only. Lots of distancing to be had.
I have wanted to become a better singles player but never had the time to dedicate to it. Well, now is the time.
(I will serve with my balls, opponent with his/her balls .... no touching someone else's ball with anything other than racquet)
As long as park courts remain open I will have a match a day ... already have next 5 days lined up.
