I've been a hockey goaltender for years and I've received pucks ans plastic balls (cosom) much harder than this, right in the Adam's apple. Please...

This is not the same as Shapovalov. His intent was to hit the ball to the lines person but not to harm. I disagree with outcome

Yes, he should have gone for her throat full-on with his racket, and not used a ball.

Just saw the replay. She flopped....or it was a bullseye on her Adams apple.
Second look....didn't look like he hit the ball hard enough to have linesperson helped off court.

Honestly, a bad decision from the organisers. Not only was it standing back from her, but it wasn't a strong shot, pretty normal given it was after a service game. USO pretty much cemented its postition as the worst slam and a total joke as far as I'm concerned. Will probably end up being played in bras and tinfoil hats with drinking magic goo in a few years.

I didn't even know you could be disqualified for almost nothing. He obviously didn't have any intention of hitting anyone. If these are the rules, then it is a good call. I'd still change this specific rule.

Not a Djokovic Fan, but this is a Joke. He did Not even Hit the Ball hard. What a freaking Drama Queen of a linesman. Players give away Balls Like this All the time

It's a joke. This sport is so soft. How about we get some lines people who are young enough to have reaction times. Maybe Fed paid her to milk it and move her neck into the ball. So bizarre that some old lady is the reason the world #1 is DQd lol
That's the same woman who told the umpire that Federer cursed on court and cost him a $20K fine at AO earlier this year! LOL

It was the right call. You smack a ball in anger and hit a linesperson you deal with the consequences. What if this person was seriously injured? Doesn’t matter if it wasn’t intentional. As a player you should pay attention to where you’re hitting the ball. And shame on Brad Gilbert spinning this as maybe we should get rid of linespeople. No. Players need to learn to control their anger and pay attention to where they’re hitting balls on the court.

I'm quarantining myself from all tennis discussion until RG 2020 Quaterfinals. Nole needs to stop this clown stuff.

Djokovic isn't the imminent threat to break the slam record. Nadal is. So unless Nadal decides to get himself disqualified from the next few slams, Roger's record is still toast.
Nadal is the favourite for RG. Not so much at the other Slams. So Nadal's still got a lot of work to do to break the Slam record.

USO got the worst line judges. Often old and slow, make the wrong calls. Has annoyed me for years.

Lol. If you're being serious, she should be banned from tennis. I guarantee she milked this. An attention seeker. Novak did not hit it hard and she doesn't have an adam's apple. It's a joke.

I know the rule. I just think the rule is dumb. How does one know if a ball is hit out of anger vs frustration? What's the difference? One you get DQd, the other you don't?
Rule is not dumb at all, you can't just go out there swinging balls in frustration, endangering people around.

But for the love of god, it was hardly more than a normal swing.

It's just the 1 in 1 million chance it hit the linesperson right in the neck.

Touch someone with a ball at that speed and it would NEVER get you disqualified.

It's just ridiculous because of the added drama with the lineswomen collapsing, otherwise it should not be a DQ, not on a ball like that.

This was a 50/50 decision taken against him and a costly one without a doubt. I am absolutely fuming right now.

Brad Gilbert: "The moment I saw it, I knew he was done. The rule book is very explicit on this. It's an instant disqualification."
rejoice beatlesfan. i know blah blah hate to see him lose like this etc etc. but come on. fed should send a thank you note to PCB for getting djokovic irritated. :D

Djoker looked very beatable anyway and had a joke of a draw up to the SF. And Zed is on fire right now! Djokovic wasn't going to beat Zed in the SF if they had met there.

Counter the proof. If the same situation occurred on a bounce whereby the ball hit the ground first and the lady fumbled the recovery And it hit her in the eye throat whatever. Is he still defaulted? The returning of the ball for the service change was within the context of the game and how it is played
