Terrible turn of events for Nadal. Of course the roof being closed is better than no roof and rain falling, but no rain whatsoever would have obviously been best.

The biggest match of the 21st century is almost upon us. The tension is building.

I love them both but I hope Nadal can pull off an upset. He deserves to sit top of the Slam leaderboard.

The rain should be relatively light and should stop 1 hour into the match. I don't understand why they're closing the roofs. Perhaps symbolically, they don't wanna look bad by making the players start a match in less than ideal conditions.

I don't even want to watch the match now. Djokovic was the big favorite before that, now the match is NID. Luckiest player in the history of sports, and it is not even close. @Yugram chose the nickname "fluke" for the wrong person. Djokovic is the luckiest player ever. He is the real FLUKE!

A disaster for Nadal. He never seems to get luck in these situations, while his rival for the slam leaderboard always seemed to get the roof closed when he needed it -for genuine and sometimes for suspicious reasons.

TRUE! I agree with you, this is not fair.

Why are people writing Nadal off because of a closed roof? I wouldn't.

If you know tennis, then all you need to do is look at Nadal's indoor record. Because of the time of the year and the change in balls, the venue is already slow and low bouncing. This is basically going to be like the ATP finals.

I just changed my vote from Nadal in 4 to Djokovic in 4. I don't see Nadal having any chance of beating Djokovic in any indoor, climate-controlled venue. Zero.

Whoever wins, I'm just hoping for both to play well and give us an epic 5-setter (could be one of the longest ever, esp. given no tiebreak in the 5th)

Plenty of history on the line ofc

If Djokovic wins:
  1. He will be the first player to beat Nadal at Roland Garros AND win the title in the same year. (Federer in 2009, Wawrinka in 2015 and Djokovic's own 2016 title came without having to face Nadal)
  2. Double Career Grand Slam ofc (a unique Open Era achievement, like his Double Golden Masters - which just shows his versatility across all surfaces), and getting to 18 definitely helps his cause to match or overtake Fed's 20
If Nadal wins:
  1. 20 Grand Slams, matching Fed (another RG next year would put him to 21, tho Thiem/Djoko/Tsitsipas etc will be even more ready to steal it)
  2. a ridiculous 13th Roland Garros of course
  3. 100th match win here for Rafa (Fed has 100+ at AO and Wimby)
It would also be a record-breaking 6th Slam after turning 30 whoever wins
(Fed has won 4 after 30)

With the roof closed Djokovic is now going to serve 3-4 aces in every service game. Just like in Wimbledon 2018.

I think I'm done with tennis. This is truly the Djokovic Open. The organizers should be ashamed.

ehm

so what do you suggest they do about the rain? make it stop?

There's nothing we can do to control the outcome of the match. We can only hope to get a beautiful match. If Djokovic wins I just hope Nadal makes him earn his meal. If Nadal wins it will be great. Either way the champion deserves it and congratulations to him.
I'm ready for this!!!! Let's go!!!!

These two players are not human, they must have weird genetic mutations because the level they reach when the play each other doesn't make any sense.

I know, but I would still never write Nadal off completely at RG.

If Djoker hadn’t lost his cool and defaulted from USO, he could be playing to tie Rafa’s 19 slams with Rafa playing to tie Roger’s 20. Would make this match more epic.

This isn't a valid excuse lol? If they moved Wimbledon to high bouncing grass Federer fans would file a civil suit

So what we are saying is Djokovic is better at tennis than Nadal unless Nadal has conditions where the ball bounces above your shoulders? Sounds like that to me

One doubt. Will the roof remain closed for the entire match irrespective of the weather, like their Wimbledon 2018 encounter?
