I’m more relaxed than usual. As I think Djokovic is the underdog here. Only slightly but playing Nadal in RG finals is the reason. Rafa has to be favourite but the margins are tight. I look forward to a great battle between 2 tennis legends. I hope Djokovic wins but respect Nadal a lot and he’s great to watch. Let’s hope they both bring the goods. May the best man win.

I think it will be Nadal in 3, a reverse of the AO 19 final.
Novak will have a slow start but will gradually increase his level. Bull will be super sharp from the beginning with a few tough holds on his serve.

Final SCORE: 6-2, 6-4, 7-5 Nadal
Nice jinx attempt, Joe devotee.

I've not been this worried for a Djokodal match since RG13 which was a good type of nervous and excitement...got a bad feeling about this one tho, sweat.jpeg

The weather is as good as can be expected this time of the year. The sun is shining and there are no gale force winds. Some people were wishing this year's RG would be a windy soggy mess like it was on Day 1 when Vika packed her bags and walked off. Rafa has never lost an outdoor clay court match played in DC at this time of the year.

Based on the evidence, Rafa should win but matches are not won on paper so I'm still nervous. I think I'll need some smelling salts in the first set especially if it's not going well for Rafa. After 2 sets, we will know where the outcome is heading.

You got your hopes up Djokovic would lose to Tsitsipas after he couldn't convert MP in the 3rd, didn't you?
Not even close. It's Next Gen we're talking about.

It was actually some Djokovic fans that started panicking.

Seems like the weather forecast is nice. Rafa would be feeling good about that for sure. It’s an RG final. You have gotta favor Rafa on this one. Fingers crossed for a titanic match between the two.

I hope so too. I hope it's something resembling their 3 best matches: AO 2012, RG 2013 and Wimb 2018.

We need an epic match to cap off this Covid infested season.

I’m happy Novak made the final. That was the main target. He never managed to reach one since he won in 2016. Plus winning it once should take a little bit of pressure away. Novak just needs to play freely and have a good go. Rafa is the king so if he plays to his top level he should win as it’s clay and RG. However, if he is not quite at that top level and Novak plays at a consistently strong level he can pull it off. Should be a epic.

Exactly my thought.
Good news is Novak is less likely to throw a tantrum, curse, or break a racquet when playing Nadal or Federer. Bad news is he can still lose focus in the middle of the match. Prepare for multiple momentum shifts in this final.
It will likely go 4 or 5, in sets and hours. But there is a small chance Novak could beat Nadal fast, who hasn't been really battle tested this "clay season".

Yes. I started to have more hope when I saw Novak kind of giving away 2 sets in his SF match.
I agree, Djokovic isn't perfect. However, Nadal also isn't. He almost choked the third set in the semifinal. I expect more choking from Nadal today if he gets chances. Unfortunately, on the big points Djokovic is usually the much better player.

I enjoy Novak playing Nadal and federer. As he always feels like he has a point to prove or he’s still in their shadow in eyes of many. Djokovic is normally always the most focused and determined when he faces Nadal or federer. They are his biggest rivals and it gets him pumped up. As long as he plays well and gives it his best that’s enough for me. I think Nadal will get it won or find a way but if anyone can beat him it’s Novak. I think it will be close and hope we get some epic rallies.

Expect some gorgeous passing shots from both sides once the match gets physical and both players try to shorten the points.

Djokovic winning a second RG title would be the end of tennis as we know it.
Only if you are a pimply online high school kid who has no girlfriend, no friends, and you game all day long in your basement, the real world does not care.

First final that Djokovic will play as a Roland Garros champion.

The lack of that title after so many good campaigns in this Slam put a lot of pressure on him, it affected his game a lot. Not anymore.

I expect a happy Djokovic, patient and playing his best tennis. Today there is nothing to lose, only to win.

Obviously I hope Novak wins but like you, I’m just god he got to the final and picked up some extra points. This is Rafa at RG so it’s hard to bet against him.

For Novak
Pros:
Nadal will be under the pressure of #20.
Novak will be in every Nadal service game.
Nadal is not battle tested (Sinner? No way.)
Cool weather (we all know Novak hates playing in the heat).
Jelena is there cheering for him.

Con:
Nadal's aura in RG.
Nadal's FH has been good.
Novak usually loses focus in the middle of a match.
Novak may not be 100% physically.
Novak has struggled with his serve.

Completely agree. Live Tennis has made me so happy these past couple of months despite Roger not playing. We need an epic match. Something like a Wimbledon 2018, only with results reversed please :p

LOL. He didn't say tennis though. Vajda could beat Moya, say in uno?

I mean in terms of coaching lol. Obviously Moya is a tennis legend, but in my opinion he is also a *vastly* superior tennis mind to Vajda, who was blessed with the perfect student.

After what vajda did in 2018, he really deserves more credit imo.

Djokovic really never should have faltered to begin with. And he is so strong mentally and his game is so absent weakness that it doesn't take a good coach to help him pile up slams. It's often far easier to see the positive influence of coaching in Nadal's game.

I personally could have coached Djokovic to similar results.
