Slightly random, but I got a Topspin Pro device. Mainly for my GF because it's super hard for me to teach her topspin and I am no tennis coach.

Anyway, I really like this thing for light practice. It will show tiny flaws in your strokes and help you get under the ball without thinking about it. Example of a tiny flaw for me is not keeping the wrist laid back quite long enough through contact now and then on my 2 handed backhand. Easily fixed by drilling on this thing.

Not a bad investment, especially for anyone in cold weather who wants to move around and drill in their house if they can't practice outside.
You think it's worth it ? I'm in Canadaz cold winters. I do play indoors but at 3a week average it adds up quickly $$ and in the summer I like to play every day if possible. So always looking for a tennis fix. That could be it. I guess you can do footwork drills. Plus I have three young kids. Thanks for quick review

For me yes because it reinforces the proper swing path. So its like shadow swinging on steroids basically. Thats the way to think of it.

you can definitely break a sweat if you move around and do drills with it. Its already shown me a better swing path for my 2 hander than i was doing. Shadow swings are great but this will engrain way better habits.

Alu is magic for a few hours. Then you play the next time out and you’re scratching your head... ‘was I just on a great day?’ It’s still good, but more like slightly above avg vs magic man. Tour sniper is ver consistent until right before it breaks. It’s soft, comfortable, but good spin and durability. very consistent response.

Hyper g - crisp, more stiff than sniper. I used it in a few rackets that I wasn’t overly impressed. But I can see why it would be great in the right type of frame. PP speaks highly of it and you can trust that. I will try it again soon in the clash.

I’d like to try S7T in BP and FX 500. Only tried it in the blade and Nova before. Still have lots of hyper-g and confidential though

it really is a great playing string. I’ve been thinking about trying alpha again also. I tried it head to head against tour sniper before I bought a reel, but not sure I gave it a fair shake in the right type of frame.

would be fun to try it in the pure drive also.

I have a reel of tour sniper and had a few sets of alpha - it shares a few similarities with tour sniper but is a tad softer and more lively. Super comfortable string, should be a great fit for lower-powered frames. Also makes a great sound when hitting big.

The youtek one with just the clear coat over the graphite for like half the inner hoop was pretty good by me. Liked it better than the microgel, and it definitely looked better.

Last one I ever hit with, though.

That's good to know. I actually don't think the UT is that 'demanding' or difficult to play with, but it does require you to focus and be on your game. For me, the BP 16/19 is harder to play with. But that could be because the weight distribution and timing is totally different than what I'm used to.

I do like a challenge. 'If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!' Seriously though, I'm looking for something fun/different to offset the UT's and this one looks like it might be more work than it's worth.

You mentioning the Prince TT series had me looking at reviews of the 310 last night. I never looked at it before but it's gotten really good reviews.
Regarding the PT2.0, some of the discussion about the sweet spot being too small and the racquet being too demanding is overblown. It's a 95 sq in 18x20 racquet. So yes, it's very control oriented, but within the range of that sort of racquet, it's remarkably powerful. Most people who have compared it with the older PT280 have said that the 2.0 has a crisper and more powerful feel, with a lower swingweight (and some people like that, some are disappointed with it), but the main point is that it's easier to use than the older version. If you are after a pinpoint control stick with a dense string pattern that nonetheless is not lacking in power, the PT2.0 could be for you.

I've been playing the Graphene 360 Extreme MP for the last few months and lately kind of switched to the new Extreme Tour, but I've always liked Pure Drives – my favourite so far being the black 2012 one – and always give their latest versions a try. There's something inherently beautiful about a racket that you can just grab off the shelf and play, and to me the Pure Drive is the very definition of a pick up and go racket. No mods needed, at least for a certain style of play. Plus its got heritage. So of course I had to buy the new one.

I used the TWE matching service when I ordered and of the 12 frames they specced, 9 frames were measured at 68 RA, 2 had 67 RA and 1 had 69 RA. Curious, as the official Babolat spec lists the frame at 72 RA unstrung. I've asked TWE if their RA is an estimate for the strung frame or if the frames indeed measured that low and will hopefully receive an answer on Monday. Or maybe it's just their RDC that's off.

Anyway, the new paint job is cool and all, alright, but what's more interesting to me are the new, longer bumpers that are slightly widened at 3 & 9, a tiny bit similar to the original Pure Drive.

36vuxfw.jpg

I got it strung with Hyper G 1.25 (due to @JGads vouching for it and from reading @Power Player's glowing posts about the PD/HG combo – thank you both, as I never played HG before) at 23kg.

First impressions, straight from the honeymoon: this is seriously one of the best and most enjoyable rackets I've played in quite a while. Better feel and touch than any Pure Drive in recent history, easy power and spin as you'd expect from a PD and surprisingly comfortable.

As with all Babolats, especially the power frames, you have to commit to your shots. A half hearted stroke will more than likely result in a flyer. Been there, done that. What really surprised me is the stability of this new Pure Drive. It lets you take the ball super early, half volleys are a dream. It just doesn't wobble or twist. It packs quite a bit more power than my Extreme Tour, 80% balls can be 50% balls with the PD, saving energy. Control is as expected – not pinpoint, sure, but more than sufficient for my game on clay courts. Touch is very good, but I can not say how much of that is due to the frame or the strings, as I've never played Hyper G before. Anyway, PP nailed it – HG 1.25 is an excellent fit for the new PD.

Woofer grommets – always a hot topic if not a bit overblown IMO on these boards – never bothered me much, to be honest. So the new one does not have woofers and that's ok, I guess. The response of the new PD is more traditional, yes, resulting in maybe a few less fliers, but I need more time with it to really gauge it.

The sweetspot is generous. Whats really interesting is that even on balls outside the sweetspot, like say a mistimed overhead I hit way high in the stringbed, there is basically zero bad vibration in the frame. It's really very well muted in this regard. Serves are not on the level of my Extreme Tour just yet, but that's to be expected on the first few outings. Nevertheless I can see great potential, especially for slice serves. Kickers worked well right away and flat serves clicked towards the end of the first session. Very pleased with that.

To sum it up I think both the Extreme Tour and this new PD will stay in my bag in the foreseeable future. The ET is just so versatile while the PD is just so much fun and easy to play with. Thing is legit.
Very nice review. Have you played with PD 18 and if yes, how do they compare ?

Can’t remember exactly.... which Head Prestige did Monfils use before he moved to Prince, then Wilson?
I remember ready the tennisnerd’s article about it before that Monfil’s Head was a PT57A and Wilson gave him an H19 when he joined. I think he played with the 2013 Blade 98 PJ and then endorsed the UT PJ (can’t remember which PJ he used in between..)
so his Head could well be/was the PT57A/PT630 with a Prestige PJ.... and it makes sense that the H19 is Wilson’s version of Head’s PT57A/E?:X3:

Good points. In fact just swapping PT 2.0 CAP grommets with MG Radical ones (same mold n they fit) you can drop static and swing weight and make it more easier to use too. It has PT57E layup (iPrestiges) so plays crisp but very comfy and with typical Prestige goodness. I mean it is an advanced user frame at true 95 head size and 18x20 pattern at the end of the day, but if one likes those kinds of frames you should atleast try it. Best part is its $159 and nicely priced brand new. Can score it for much cheaper second hand.

Honestly, was hoping new 6.1 would be as cheap but unfortunately Wilson thought otherwise.

The whole “cant do thicker beams” thing has been a thought process we have all gone through. I said the same thing, especially since I came back to tennis full time around 08 and was blown away that people were using Wilson Hammer looking things to compete at the highest levels.

It’s also many times, a mistake made by players who could really use the extra power in today’s game. A thinner beam 18x20 frame quite awesome (I have many, I used the Phantom 93 in Florida for a year) but the reality is this - if you want to use these frames, you will need higher weight and SW in order to get the same power the guy across from you is getting for free. You will not have nearly the same amount of racquet head speed (unless you are an experienced player with developed strokes) and your serve (most important shot) will not be as fast or heavy unless you really have it dialed in.You really need to have developed strokes and have played at least 4.5 tennis. Not just because that means you probably have some shot tolerance under pressure, but also because you will have faced other great players who will use lighter, more powerful frames and you will have to beat them with yours.

You can say that you don’t want to play tournaments or whatever other justification you‘d like but I’m just trying to fast forward you past your current mindset to save you some valuable time.

Trying the Prince tt100 is a positive step forward, IMO. It’s a racquet that makes way more sense for most rec players compared to using a pro stock UT (which is awesome, but not going to do you any favors at all out there). If you are going to try one, do not add leather, do not add lead. Just put everything else away for a while and go hit with it for a long time and get used to the lighter weight, the extra power and develop your technique to control it.
quoted for truth. dont handicap yourself with an unforgiving racquet. well, if you want to win ...

Got to try Mscreams Ezone 98 today and also worked in my UT and PD with the 100.

I like the Ezone 98, but the balance of it is not really what I prefer. It feels like it has less weight in the head and feels a little less solid on impact compared to the 100. My opinion is I much prefer the 100 and would recommend that over the 98. It has better feel and more punch to it at a lighter weight.

Was fun to work in the UT and get that nice feel (S7T). I had to use a lot more energy to generate the same amount of pace, but its good to know I can work it in when needed. Compared to the PD and 100 it is an energy vampire though.

Also nice to know when I returned back to the 100 I really enjoyed the feel of it still after the Ut. It has a really nice thwok to it and having them strung the same made it a nice comparison.

Still really enjoying this frame and thinking it will be the one ill be using moving forward. Just going to try a few strings in it to see what I like best. Silver 7 Tour is really, really great option if you want to demo this frame with full poly. It will be tough to beat.

As a side note, no arm twinges, stiffness, pain,..etc after using this racquet. It’s very comfortable for being a stiffer frame.

My next play test will probably be my most important to date.
which PA is best suited for my game.
L3 or L4.
the L4 feels more stable in my hand. Inspires a little more accuracy.
The L3 has a little more wiggle room. And inspires a little more RHS.
Mao this will be a good one. And hopefully bring me one step closer to using just one stick.

Yes. I did like the 18 PD much more then the 15 PD with the more closed pattern (and exceptionally crude paintjob). It's been a while, but in comparison the 2021 PD feels like a more refined racket in just about every way. It's more stable (higher twistweight), more comfortable and muted. Still a very fast racket. I'd recommend you demo it if you have the chance.

Thanks and what about control and feel? My current racket is Pure Drive 18 and before I had the original Pure Drive which I found much much better than PD 18 except power.
I didn't like the feel of PD 18 at all (muted and kind of strange) and control was missing due to very oper string pattern. So I would be interested to see how it compares to it in terms of feel and control.

Unfortunately I've never tried the original Pure Drive. From what I recall of the PD 18, the new version provides a better, more direct feel. Part of that may be the new, woofer-less grommets. Control is what I expected from a Pure Drive, on par with my Extreme MP but not as good as the Extreme Tour. I'm happy with it, but it's been too long since I hit the PD 18 to make a more direct comparison and I do not have one anymore, sorry. Hasn't the string pattern on Pure Drives, apart from the closer 2015 version, always been more or less the same?

Played this morning. I won the 1st set easily but I think that led to some overconfidence. I started going for smaller targets and making errors. I decided to switch to the UP 16/19 because I knew it was a mental thing and I wouldnt aim as close to the lines with it. It worked and I won the 3rd set. I really do hit heavier serves with the UP. I think that convinces me tha tim going to order a 2nd one. Hopefully the specs are somewhat close to the one I have now.

New hitting partner today. Ludicrously tall guy who I heard isn't the best, so I added like 4g lead to the 12 on PD 21 before going out, just for kicks.

He couldn't really bend his legs, so I wound up spending basically the whole time ignoring loopers and driving stuff. I realized a little bit into it that I can handle a way higher swingweight if I'm not going for mega-RHS loopers, and tossed another 4g on. Really just a hilarious experience, the racquet was just crushing balls without me doing anything at all. It amped my serves up quite a bit, too.

I assume I would run into trouble doing this with someone who was giving me more pace, but it was interesting to see how much less weight impacted my timing playing like this.

Have a chance to pick up a Blade Pro for a very decent price and deciding if I should go for it or not. I have played with Blade Pro 16x19 so it isn't like I don't know how it plays and feels etc. I am not a big collector myself so I know it will be just lying around in the bag without much use.

I'm just curious if early purchasers here still held on to theirs or has the novelty factor worn off and they sold theirs off moving to greener pastures? Any one here who has Blade Pro as their main racquet currently?

Wow, 8 grams at 12 on the PD? Thats intense. I have done that before with some frames, but it was never sustainable. Crushes the ball though.

I sold mine fast. Not because it sucks, but I wanted to get most of my money back . If I collected frames this one would have been a keeper, but most of the frames like that I own (Austrian Radical, PT280, YY mid) I didn't spend that much to acquire.

I think I'm gonna try leaving it on for a minute and see what happens, without needing to time things more closely on really acute brushes I wasn't having the timing issues I thought I would have. This might be the only way in which the last decade of weightlifting hasn't made my tennis worse!

Or maybe the guy just wasn't pressuring me that much. Who knows! I'm sure I'll figure it out here soon though.

I haven’t made specific decisions yet. I am experimenting with BP and the new Dunlop FX 500 to see. i still need to keep playing with both more and trying different strings in them. I think i’ll be tinkering for the next month practicing and playing matches with both. I have 3 BPs but two still have plastic on the handle so just playing the one for now with leather grip.

Leaning sell, but it's an awesome frame. Have other awesome frames, though, and should probably build the Ultra Pro Piggy. But at least one more hit is required. I seem to like the frame more the more I hit with it, and that's opposite to what usually happens, so it's being stubborn.

The last version (5th gen) Ezone 100 was pretty average (and I'm being polite). Coming from 4th gen DR line in general, the 5th gen Ezones had big shoes to fill as it is. They felt stiff, flexing weird, wobbled more than they should (didn't feel very stable), and just didn't feel good overall. Compare that to the 6th gen (current 2020 Ezone) and the new one is much closer in feel and feedback to DR line. Feels way smoother and hits much sweeter. I mean it is day and night. So no, unfortunately not the same.
