Shanghai win is actually not nothing, it’s more than 99% of the tour have.Medvedev. He’s done almost nothing since USO 2019
I forgot all about Shanghai. Okay, since Shanghai then.Shanghai win is actually not nothing, it’s more than 99% of the tour have.
But you’re right if we shift the post to "since Shanghai".
I’ve said no Djokovic/Federer/Nadal because everyone heard how overrated these mugs are a billion times.Nadal.
Not going to exclude players who are still active on the tour. Thanks.
I'll give FAA a pass, as he's still only 20, but much as I'd like to see him do well, I'm starting to get just a bit skeptical. My choice is Auger Aliassime. I don’t think this guy is even a Masters-winning material, let alone Slams, #1s...
Don’t know how can anyone see Djokovic/Federer/Nadal in him.
Nadal.

I expected great things for him after his 2017 season. Hasn’t lived up to expectations unfortunatelyZverev
It takes something more than physicality and technique to reproduce Djokovic/Nadal peak level. It’s deeply mental. Medvedev went on one of the most impressive HC streaks of recent years (F-F-W-F-W-W) despite having holes in both technique and physicality.I expected great things for him after his 2017 season. Honestly if he fixes his serve he could be an improved version of Novak. Ultron T1000
Peakrev is a sight to behold. I hope he’s not another Safin, shows up twice a year if we’re lucky then goes missing. It takes something more than physicality and technique to reproduce Djokovic/Nadal peak level. Kyrgios. People think he could win slams if he had the right attitude, but I think that judgement makes not much sense. Attitude is an important attribute to a great player, and saying if he had better attitude he'd win, is, in my opinion, something like saying World No. 150 could win a slam if he had the right amount of talent. World No. 150 hasn't. Kyrgios hasn't the right attitude, so no point in saying "he'd win if...". He'll never win 7 best-of-5-matches in a row.
He’s now 20 and has zero titles to his names. Rafa had something like 15 titles + a Rome and RG title by the time he was 19.because he was winning Challenger matches at the age of 14
Thiem’s lack of any big clay titles is truly interesting. If we look at 2017-2019 clay Masters and exclude tournaments where Nadal was in good form, then Thiem had Rome 17, Madrid 18, MC19, Madrid 19 Open for him. Not that many opportunities, really. But he should have capitalised on Madrid in 19, imo.Thiem on clay. Outside RG, his results have been quite bad for someone who is supposed to be the "Prince of clay" ( 0 Masters titles, never reached Rome F, never even reached Monte-Carlo SF ). And even at RG, his only purpose is to own Djokovic in semis and replace him as Nadal's punching bag in the finals.
C’MOOOOOOOOOOOONDenis Shapovalov to retire from professional tennis and start his podcast Shapo Trap House.
I think the next gen in general is very disappointing. Tsitsipas has two slam semis, Shapo has one QUARTERFINAL as his best slam. They haven't had much deep runs, and they have lost a ton of matches they should never lose (e.g. Shapo losing to Carballes Baena)He’s now 20 and has zero titles to his names. They don’t make em like they used to
I had to look up who won Madrid in 2019. Couldn’t even rememberThiem’s lack of any big clay titles is truly interesting. If Zverev ( twice ) and Fognini could capitalise on these opportunities, then the "Prince of clay" has absolutely no excuse for not doing so.Thiem’s lack of any big clay titles is truly interesting. Spot on. No consistency on his forehand, which is his main weapon. My choice is Auger Aliassime. I don’t think this guy is even a Masters-winning material, let alone Slams, #1s...

How's the guy who just won a schlem without dropping a set (for the 4th time) while bagelling the world #1 overrated
He has 20 schlems and looks poised to pass that mark by 2-4 more.He is overrated because certain people actually have him in the running as overall GOAT when he cannot win indoor to save his life.
Still zero Tour Finals titles last I checked.
Jannik Sinner.
Spoiled brat with a lifeless on court demeanour who's for some mysterious reason touted as the "next big thing".
Ball basher bot! All he does is unload nuclear warheads until his opponent runs out of stamina! He's incapable of hitting the ball delicately yet people compare him to the Maestro?! Disgraceful!!
He vultured his way to RG QF then choked against a beatable Nadal for 2 consecutive sets until Nadal started Nadaling ...yet this kid is supposed to dominate an entire era? Roflmao give me a break!!
He's never gonna win a Slam, let alone 10+! He should've sticked to skiing!!!
There you go Jannik, your entire carreer is now invulnerable to jinxes
Nadal.

Every player has holes in their career. Ol’ Rog and Joker don’t have a single OSG between the 2 of them despite the fact that every edition has been played on HC or grass in 2012. Borg never got the job done at the USO. PETE was much worse on clay than RAFA is indoors.
Even Laver never won the WTF. Yes, I know he was old at that point in time. But the first edition was played only a year after he just completed the OE CYGS. And he did make the F that year. Indoors is such a short period of time in the modern season as it is. There’s like what 3 indoor tournaments a year. Everyone wants to move the goalposts now that RAFA is in the pole position.
Since PETE set the record back in 2000, pretty much everyone and their mother has said whoever has the most schlems is the GOAT. When Ol' Rog set the record at Wimby in 09 everyone called him the new GOAT, even though he trailed PETE in YE#1, weeks at #1, WTF, etc.No one is moving the goal posts. Ive said for years that it matters that he has not won a WTF. Its not like he has just recently begun to suck on indoor courts. He has only 2 indoor titles in his whole career. Looks at how many WTF titles Note and Fed have, thats just too big a disparity.
Nadal is the undisputed Clay GOAT for eternity, that is certain. His records will never be broken. But overall GOAT? No way.

You aren’t going to win arguing with a Fed fan. In a year the only metric that will matter is Halle titles.Since PETE set the record back in 2000, pretty much everyone and their mother has said whoever has the most schlems is the GOAT. I'm just going by the "rules" the media, historians, pundits, current/ex-players have made.
The clay season is much longer than the indoor season. Yet I'm willing to bet you had/have PETE above RAFA despite never even making an RG F. Let alone winning one.

LOLI don't have Pete above Rafa at all, even though Pete was my favorite player. He was horrible on clay and could lose to anyone.
Also everyone has their own rules, its subjective.
My rules for overall GOAT are simple: if someone was playing for your life and you didn't know the venue in advance (randomly chosen), who would you pick?
For me thats Nole or Fed. They are amazing on grass/hard/clay and indoor. Everything. You cant pick Rafa, he really sucks indoor. Also he can lose to any random journeyman on grass before its all chewed up (Rosol/Darcis/Brown etc). Also Rafa complains too much about the WTF, if he was a true GOAT he would stop complaining and find a way to win, instead of running off to his fishing boat every other year.
