A Federer-Cañas semifinal?

There's still a long way to go, but they're in collision course. Fed comes from beating Nadal on clay for the first time and is determined to win the french. Cañas is fit, playing great and winning in straights. They played their 2previous matches on hard. Will Willy win his third consecutive match over Federer? I believe he will do it again.

I don't think Canas will reach SF but if he does then the match will be delicious. If he beats Federer then Canas will become the destroyer of Federer's by destroying his chances to do the Grand Slam this year and after beating him twice in a row in 2 MS events he was defending.

Fed will take him down in straights. One tie break in the worst case. So something like 6-3 6-2 7-6 will be as good as it gets for Cañas.

my friend is really difficult to predict what is going to happen but I can tell you that Canas knows how to beat Fed and Fed also knows that.
Canas is not afraid at all of Fed as well as Nalbandian is, that gives them a little something to start very confident against this MAESTRO.

It wasn't your typical Fed that lost to Canas. Typical Fed is back. Typical Fed smokes guys like Canas.

Actually Canas' draw is faning out pretty nicely and Canas has
pretty good record against Davydenko or Nalbandian.

For some reasons, Federer was bothered by Canas forehand which
is somewhat awkward looking and often unreadable on which way he goes.
But AFAIK Canas has some kind of leg injury.

Fed will EAT Canas now. He was distracted when he lost to Canas.

No, Cañas was better. Believe me, Fed wasn´t distracted in Miami after losing to him in the previous tournament.
I read the same comments about Fed-Cañas before the Miami match and Cañas beat him again. Cañas CAN beat Federer if they play in the FO. Some fans should respect Cañas a little more after beating Fed twice in a row.

Fed was going through a bad slump during his 2 losses to Canas, and he still should have won the second match hands down but let it slip away with so many opportunities. He is no longer going through a slump so I would see no reason to lose. Maybe 1 set to Canas if he is lucky and Fed is a bit off. I give Canas very little chance to even reach the semis anyway though so it is moot.

Many people think Canas is a greater claycourter, well he is not, his movement is not as good as the best claycourters and his shots are not as spinny. He reminds me of Hewitt, well i think Hewitt is better at the moment. He has not got a weapon on clay, well he is damn good on hard and grass though.

His next 2 matches look "easy", but he'd had to play QF against Davydenko or Nalbandian.

Vliegen beat Gasquet today to make it to Canas... I wouldn't call him chanceless...

By the way; interesting stats of the match Canas Bolleli (?)

Winners Canas: 5
Unforced Errors Bolleli: 68

Seems Canas just frustrates the crap out of his opponents getting as many moonballs back as possible... He can handle long matches because he's

DOPED!

If Canas beats Federer... Canas needs to hire a body-guard for messing with the #1, en route to his journey of becoming the greatest one ever.

If he gets by Vliegen I predict Juan Monaco to end it if they meet in the 4th round. Monaco is playing really well and took Fed to three sets in Hamburg. Canas showed he can get tired in his matches with both Fed and Nadal, if he gets by Davy Fed will run him until he can't breathe. Fed will beat him on dirt if it happens at this French Open.

Fed will EAT Canas now.

God, I hope not. With all those doping acusations, Roger might end up testing positive :D

No, seriously, have you seen him playing lately? He's even scoring aces :-o (22 so far) and his service was never very good. I think Willy is playing better than at P.O. and Miami. Sure, Fed can beat him, but don't expect bagels or straight sets. And if Fed is a little off, like in the third set with Ascione, Cañas will beat him for the third time in a row.

i actually think canas has a fair shot of getting to the semis now, but davydenko's no cake-walk....he's made the semis before and he's a workhorse....i'm predicting davydenko over canas in a good 4 set match

Davydenko is a hard worker and a solid tennis player, I hope he prevails in a well played match over Canas.
Still, if we do get to a Fed-Canas SF, it'd be nice to see some controlled agression from Roger, a la Hamburg 2007 - the look in Fed's face when he beat Nadal still haunts me to this day - LOL :D

Federer faces Robredo first. I saw him at RG last week and I was very impressed. He demolished Tipsarevic in 3 short sets and he made no errors at all. It's going to be a very tough test for Fed.

I pick Federer in straight sets. Just because Tommy played one good match it doesn't mean he can keep up that good form. He's not that type of player

He doesn't have the firepower to keep up with Federer. Federer is too consistent and too good with his angles for Robredo to be any trouble to him. Robredo is just your typical clay court player.

Robredo doesn't have the game to challenge Fed, but it could be a 4-set match when Robredo is on. Robredo is a better of himself on clay.

Davydenko will beat Canas for sure IMO. And Robredos spin will be a force for Fed on the red clay.

Davydenko has bigger shots than Canas and i don't think Davydenko will be frustrated by Canas, he's a consistent type of player.

Wow this forum hates Canas a lot
Could be because he beat Federer twice this year and also because many think that Canas is using steroids even though the committee has declared him innocent.
Well if you can't beat them you have to hate them I guess

Anyone else think that if we get to a Canas Fed. SF that Fed. might overlook him looking ahead to Nadal and get a good *** kicking. Canas is in Federer's head just like Nadal. I'm sure I'll get all kinds of crap for saying this but this is not Federer's year to win the French.
