Air Trainer 1 Chlorophyll - the old McEnroe, Agassi and Wilander shoe

The original cross trainer - the Nike Air Trainer 1 in green and black. Did anyone use them for tennis in the old days? They are available again in a re-issue (though Nike itself sold out and it's all through secondary markets). I wore them to play some tennis and they are super comfortable and felt great. The sole seems like it would wear out fast though so just curious if others ever wore them for day to day playing.

I was unable to snag a size 12. Resell isn’t too bad, but I was hoping to pay retail.

Thanks for the heads-up!

I did wear a pair of these back in the day for playing. They wore out very quickly, but what thrill to be playing with the same shoes as McEnroe and Wilander :)

The outsole was very soft. Mchangeover. during changeovers shave off pieces of the outsole to make them more flexible.

They were amazing back in the day. I have to say, I have bought a few pairs of re-issues and they aren't the same. That is either because they are a lifestyle shoe now or shoe technology has advanced so much that they seem pedestrian.

Yeah, it sucks. The collector types have perverted the whole process. They "sold out" immediately because there are people who make it their business to scalp them basically.

Yeah, the outsole looks like it is pretty soft. So I'm sort of reluctant to actually wear them to play a lot. Maybe just to play doubles or something.

Had two pair back in the day. Loved the look. But - really thin, soft sole that wore quickly down just walking around. Even had one corner peel and had to glue it back on.

Best shoe ever but wore out faster than shoes made of butter.

haha! Butter!! Great and very true description. You’d be lucky to get a week out of the OG Air Max on hard courts. My JV basketball team actually used the 2nd version as a team shoe. Needless to say, even on hardwood, we were all buying new shoes mid-season. Beautiful and comfy shoes but crap durability.

Had the original. Keep in mind, back then, almost every tennis shoe required some break-in.

These did not, and were super comfortable right out of the box. Played two hours in a Florida summer on the first outing, and my feet loved them.

As has been repeated multiple times, sole durability was abysmal.

What, if anything can you do about the sole durability? I've experimented in the past with putting some duct tape in certain spots. If you are playing on hard courts, it doesn't negatively affect traction.

I’ve had every pair as far as first generation chlorophyll accent as well as red accent color I’ve had at least 20 -25 pairs over the years ... they also make other variations of the air trainer and I’ve had those as as a womens/ unisex running shoe version
Absolutely my all time fave shoes ever

The above outfit is not only one of my all time favorite apparel line but the colorway is off the charts , so so so cool man, ugh why can’t more clothing lines do it like Nike did with the checkerboard Nike lines .. to me, that was Nike at their zenith prime .

It's mega cool indeed. Too bad John didn't win any major wearing it. It would solidify how cool those designs are.

Paraphrasing my post in Ubersonic 4 thread:

Is that actual real live leather? Or syn / faux / pleather? I see graining, but that can be faked.

If the former, yummy. Kudos...would love to see that trend continue, but not sure anyone is willing to put up with break-in periods any longer.

One of my favorite shoes. Reminded me of Macross comics/toys/cartoon. Never got to own a pair but maybe get a chance if my wide flip flops will fit in them.

I always wanted a pair of these shoes. But do they fit like Jordans? From the pic they look like it - the sharp turn in at the top, hence not ideal for wider feet.

I bought a pair of the regular cross trainers recently. Very similar shoe, at least it looks like it.

Visually they’re awesome (even my 15yo daughter thinks so), but the material is miles below the current standards. I bought them out of nostalgia, so it’s hard to say if they are similar to the originals from back in the day, but cool enough to strut around in ;)
