does anyone know what journal travlerajm is publishing in? He used to have some really nice posts on customizing.
I'm going to experiment with lead tape at 3 and 9 o'clock. I was flirting with the idea of using duct tape and pennies. I might still do that just to stay true to being a real cheapo.
You must be joking right? Pennies? That is a lot of weight also duct tape is heavy and maybe when you decide to take it off it will take your PJ off with it.

Pretty!! Very nice pile there...good to see you have a yellow demo model in the mix.
Hope all are doing well and you are enjoying the start of summer (for those of us in the northern hemisphere).
I'm having a lot of fun with a great group of guys playing dubs weekly...I'm the weakest link of the four of us (too bad for them, great for me) and the combination of tennis and smack-talk is a beautiful thing.
Keep your eye on the ball and a smile on your face....
The racquet flew out of my hand on a serve today. Luckily, it's not broken. I definitely need to get a bigger grip, as it's a 4 1/2" and I could benefit from a an increase in 1 or even 2 sizes.
If anyone has increased the grip size with heat shrink with the M-fil 300, can you comment on how the racquet behaves because of the added weight? I'm thinking 1 heat shrink sleeve plus TW's leather replacement + an overgrip.
anyone experience arm=pain with the m-fil? Got mine at 12oz with syn gut. Played 2 matches on consecutive nights and have v sore wrist/elbow. Have small amount of lead on frame but lots of weight on handle due to grip size being too small. I thought heavy (ish) + HL = no pain but not so for me. Any suggestions?
Yeah the M-Fil can be a bit jarring on mishits. Maybe take a night off and try to keep it in the sweet spot.
Lol, I like that advice! Immediate reaction is to try another frame but when you do hit the sweetspot on a regular basis feels great.
It was vert windy playing the other night and I was having trouble finding any consistency on my groundstrokes which may have led to the arm trouble.
Another quirk of this frame(due to the short handle I think) is I seem to struggle with my 2-hander with it. I can hit 1 hander but only slice with consistency. Must practice more!

Nice to see you around Redflea and great to hear that you're enjoying your tennis!
Hope the family is keeping well too!
Down to four M-Fils these days (one broke a while back ).
Current setups:
2 - Gut at 50lbs (Klip Legend)
1 - Gut mains at 50/Iso Speed Pro crosses at 52
1 - Alpha Sphere at 55lbs
I know, pretty boring setups. The gut/iso speed pro hybrid is new, looking forward to seeing how that feels/plays compared to straight gut.
Still very happy w/my MF300s after all this time. I do get the "I wonder what else is out there?!" feeling once in a while, but I recognize it as the desire for change for its own sake.
^^ I have been tinkering with this decision as well concerning setups and here is what I have found to work best for me. I added leather grips to mine, increases static weight and makes the racquet more headlight. Addded an overgrip also which again does the same as adding leather just not to the same extent. I did put lead in the hoop but found I didn't like it as much up there as it decreased the swingweight to the point that I wasn't crazy about the frame anymore. Took the lead out, did a softer poly (head Sonic Pro) full job at 55 lbs and then put some lead in the throat and Eureka!! Holy Grail.
Interesting. You mean putting lead in the hoop increased swingweight right?
I like mine with lead at 10&2, 2 shrinkwraps and 2 overgrips weight is 12oz.
Awesome pop on serves but too much on groundies so going to try taming it with a Poly hybrid.
Definitely will try the leather grip out too.

my best string setup for the mfil would be racquet number #3 in my sig., the kevlar gives the ball lots of bite and spin combined witht he low power of the mfil and the right technique it creates a killer forehand, which is my best weapon, also the stirng is cost efficent, its $8.50 on tw for the set, of hybrid 18g kevlar and 17g syn gut
Yeah good catch on the swingweight botch. I've never quite found a poly hybrid the I loved, esp with the newer softer polys I enjoy the constant response I get off the stringbed. I actually used ALU Power full job at lower tension and the racquet played like an absolute board, couldn't stand it, then I tried it with Multi (Max Touch and NXT) and then Syn Gut (Gosen Micro and PSGD) and it still didn't feel right. So I quit wasting $12 sets of string and tried out different ones and finally settled on two or three that I change out depending on how I'm feeling. My favorite of the moment is Big Hitter Blue, looks really sweet in the AG 300. Redflea is right on about the MFILs being sensitive to higher tensions, so try to keep it low if you can.
I was thinking of going with BA 1.22 main and Supex Spiral Gut cross @ 54/56 but equally could do full BA at 54. Never used Poly before so idea of hybrid was to break myself in gently plus I need to be able to volley with it as I play mainly dubs. I have 2 m-fils so will try both as a comparison.
Let me know how that works out for you, I've never tried Pro Supex strings before, I'm interested to see how they perform. Don't get too hung up on the stereotypes of poly, I am able to volley very well with full poly, I mean its not Nat. Gut but I think it works just as good, if not better, than synthetic.
hey, does anyone have any tips for leading up my M-fils. My goal weight would be around 11.7-11.8 oz and i'd like it to be a more solid/forgiving if possible
Burnsville, MN. i play a lot in savage by myself with the wall if my friends are all working. can't wait to try this one out. does anyone know where to put lead tape on the racket to increase swing speed?
o yea...i wouldn't mind joining the club. it's bigger than the AG200's. lol
Not considering the weight difference, would you say the 200 16x19 and the 300 play similar?
