NCAA Selection Show Tomorrow

ESPN news i believe, not sure about the time.

Do you guys have any idea on how this works? I'm assuming the committee isn't obligated to take the top 16 teams as hosts much like the basketball committee doesn't have to go strictly by rankings when determining seeds?

Normally, the top 16 ranked teams are the 16 seeds and host the first and second rounds of the tournaments.

This year, I believe the top 16 ranked teams are still the 16 seeds, however, 14-16 may not receive bids to host the first 2 rounds. I was told that because of the economy, the last 3 host sites may go to an area that doesn't already have a seed nearby to cut down on travel costs.

Conference championships receive automatic bids into the tournament, and then after that, it would go pretty close to the rankings I would think.

gotcha, I was hoping for a little wiggle room for my Demon Deacons. They were ranked #18 last week although they finished higher in the ACC and had a head to head win against #16 Florida State. I know there's a lot more to it than just those two factors, but it doesn't hurt.

they might send Wake to UVA but I don't think that'll happen. For some reason, they seem to always get almost a perfect S-curve with the top 32 teams. i.e. #32 to #1, #31 to #2

It would take a perfect match for wake to upset UVa. At the ACC tourney finals, Wake won 1 doubles but dropped the point. That seemed to zap all the momentum. Singles were close at some spots, but UVa was too tough.

it will be ungodly hard for almost any team to go to UVa and get a W.

the funny thing is that a UVA player I know tells me that even though they should get the 1 seed, they aren't the favorites in the tournament as UCLA has the most talent and tOSU has the best team

they aren't as dominant as they were last year. several ACC teams have taken them to the brink (FSU, Miami, Duke). For some reason they just haven't broken through yet, it's only a matter of time though. Eventually the chips will fall their way.

i'm still trying to figure out how they ever lost last year. their 3-6 are basically their 1-4 players this year and they had a lights out #1 with Somdev. they had 3 top 20 doubles team last year, and basically 6 top 100 singles players. unreal that they ever lost.

this is always very exciting time of the year. Division 1 college tennis is fun to watch, not so much because of great tennis but there is alot of raw energy on the court. and i think that is what makes it exciting...

Watch out for Ole Miss. They just won the SEC tournament and went undefeated in the confrence during the regular season. I think they are up to #2 in the rankings.

itatennis.com has a message on its front page that reads: "The 64-team brackets and 16 regional host sites for the men and women's 2009 Division I NCAA Tennis Championship will be announced beginning at approximately 5:20 p.m., on ESPNews."

I assume that's 5:20 eastern time.

I saw them play an out-of-conference match and they looked REALLY good across the board.

How about the whole SEC? 4 teams in the top 10 and 7 in the top 25!

SEC! SEC!

Does anyone know if the NCAA's will be shown on ESPNU? I didn't have that channel last year and didn't know if they showed any of it. If so, did they show any of the first 2 rounds?

Usually, only way to see the 1st 2 rounds is thru the webcam..:) Luckfully for you, Stanford, USC, and Georgia all have webcams and they are hosting the 1st 2 rounds.

I am working as an umpire for the Stanford men and as the referee for the Stanford women. So I will have one of the best seats in the house.
