What Federer needs to do to become the GOAT

1. Win the 2012 London Olympics singles (Rafa and Andre have done it)

2. Improve the head to head against Rafa

I don't think he NEEDS to do anything else. He IS GOAT. See below,

He needs to end another season as number one and preferably another season after that. Then, depending on the quality of those seasons, he'll be up there with Laver and Tilden. If they approach his 04-07 seasons, no question. If they're a bit more mediocre, I couldn't quite place him at the top of the list, but he'd be about as close as possible.

In order to become GOAT Agassi needed to win at least 6 more slams ( he had got just 8 as Lendl, Wilander, Connors) and improve against Sampras H2H was 14:20. Winning 6 more slams is harder than 1 olympics. But it is late for him.

In order to become GOAT Nadal needs to win 8 more slams, and to win at least US open 1 time. So talking about Agassi is possible ( all 4 slams) while including of Nadal into the list is too hurry ( he is not in the list with all 4).

Summing, Federer is already GOAT, what u wrote in the 1. is what u desire but not necessary because Olympics is considered lower in level than slams. What u wrote in 2. is not necessary, it is 7:13, but Fed is 28 soon while Nadal is just 23 and it is quite acceptible.

Fed cried when Blake defeated him in the Olympics.

What is your point or are you posting for the sake of posting?

Point is that Olympics is very important to him. That is why he said he was so happy he at least won the doubles. Olympics is the pinnacle of an athlete's achievement. Ask Agassi.

For other sports, but not for tennis. Tennis is judged by grand slam titles. Ask Agassi if he would be happy to exchange his olympic gold for another slam title.

It only depends on what the athletes think. Who cares if some TW posters don't think it is important.

I don't think he needs anything. He became the GOAT by winning RG. 4 or 5 finals at each slam, that's pretty impressive I must say... (and the scary thought is that he could still make more...)

i can post similar one with sampras, also 14 tiny pics

but id be able to add 2 extra year-end-no-1 trophies

But as much as I love Sampras and hate to admit it... none of those 14 would be the French Open...

I guess the one thing to confirm in it the eyes of most would be if he could manage a Grand Slam, though I never see that happening unfortunately. Obviously winning a few more Majors to put him at 16-18 would be massive.

Things that would obviously enhance his position would be to:

Improve his H2H with Nadal (even though I don't consider it too much of a factor as it is only lopsided on clay).

Win the Davis Cup (even though it is a team event it is still a big event in tennis).

Win the Olympic singles Gold (even though the Olympics isn't that big in the tennis world, it does add prestige to the resume - he should have won this in 2004).

Beat Nadal in another Major final (having lost the last three).

Beat Nadal at Roland Garros (Nadal beat Federer at Wimbledon, and even though this seems very unlikely, it would be huge).

Finish another 2 years as year-end #1 and beat Sampras' number of weeks at #1.

Respectively those are:
1. out of his control plus of the 13 wins and 7 losses Nadal has over Fed, 9 wins and 2 losses are clay, which means Nadal has a losing record of 4 wins and 5 losses to Fed on surfaces other than clay
2. irrelevant to being GOAT and just dumb if you think about it
3. irrelevant to being GOAT - its not any more important than any other tennis tournament, imo
4. out of his control
5. out of his control
6. irrelevant to being GOAT as year-end is just some arbitrary date
7. this I would actually like to see but I still think he's the GOAT without it. I believe Pete has 286 weeks and Roger 237 so he needs a little less than one more year at #1 to do it.

He said he wants to play till 2012 Olympics. That is the highest priority for him and likely his retirement date.
