With Nadal now out of Wimbledon, it is time to make predictions for the Wimbledon championships. For Roger Federer to take the no 1 rank, he must win the title.
My quaterfinal predictions:
Quarter 1:
Juan Martin Del Potro [5] vs Andy Roddick [6]
-- with Nadal out, Roddick has a great chance to make his second GS Semi of the year. Despite his inexperience on grass, JMDP is too strong a hitter for guys like Hewitt or Ferrer to beat. There is really no one in his section with the power to match him. In Roddick's quarter, he may have some problems. Jeremy Chardy and Gregor Dimitrov are dangerous floaters, but Roddick's experience should be too much. Likely 3rd round opponent Melzer is 0 - 8 vs Roddick so that should be easy. However, potential 4th round opponent Berdych could be troublesome if he puts his head on. However, experience will lead Roddick to the quraters
Quarter 2:
Andy Murray [3] vs Fernando Gonzalez [10]
-- i believe the repeat of their QF in Paris will occur becuase Gonzo is once again blessed with the gift of drawing Gilles Simon, who ironically might loose to Hanescu again. Kendrick power will not bother Murray and in the miracle the Gulbis wins his 1st match, he will play right into Murray's ad. Wawrinka could be troublesome, but is way too inexperienced in grass to beat the fan fave. Gonzo's 1st two matches will be against slower court players so he should breeze to the 3rd round. Ferrero could be a problem, but doesnt have Gonzo's firepower
Quarter 3:
Tommy Haas [24] vs Novak Djokovic [4]
-- with DP moved to the top half, Blake, who has never made it past the 3rd round here moves in. Djokovic despite his mental issues, is too good to loose early on in 2 straight majors. He also benefits from drawing Shutler and clay courter Robredo. Haas, the tourney's biggest darkhorse, will benefit the most from Nadal's withrawal. Blake is a loose cannon, and Cilic has yet to prove he can make it past the 4th round of a slam. Wimbledon will be a tough surface for him. look for the vet Haas to cash in
Quarter 4:
Fernando Verdasco [7] vs Roger Federer [2]
--Need i explain putting Federer here. As for Verdasco or Tsonga, i chose Fernando because hes been rock solid all year, and has only lost to top 10 players. Tsonga has the power, but im not sold on his confidence. I can't see Kohl taking out Roger, but he could challenge him. Same for Soderling.
Quarter Matches:
Roddick def. Del Potro
Gonzales def Murray -- my surpise upset
Djokovic def. Haas
Federer def. Verdasco
Semis:
Roddick def. Gonzalez
Federer def. Djokovic
Final:
Roddick def Federer ---- I hate Roger so i could not get my fingers to make Federer the winner
