Anyone else excited about a possible Murray vs Del Potro Wimbledon semi?

All their matches have been pretty close and entertaining. Now that DP has been moved into Nadal's place, this match up is a real possibility.

DP has Roddick in the quarters, though, so that will be a tough match.

DP is definitely a dark horse for the final. I could see that happening if Murray cracks under pressure. I'll be cheering for AM though.

umm, DP has to deal with hewitt in the 2nd round first

Yes he does. I think he'll do fine there. His serve has become so much better this year - should really help here. Fed couldn't even get a racquet on it at RG, so forget trying it at Wimby.

yes, he's improved his serve by quite a bit and that should help him, but can he sustain that huge serving in a best of 5 match ? Can he deal well with the low bounces at wimbledon ? Let's see .

Yes, this is something I've been looking forward to since I saw the draw. Del has improved few light years from last year and he has beaten Murray recently. The guy hates Mur and wont miss an epsilon of opportunity to beat him.
Hope to see it soon. Would pull for Del

hewitt has enough experience. don't think he's met del potro. hewitt is in good form right now, esp on grass .i think he might make the semis against murray, esp with roddick injured.

I think DelPotro's become a tad bit overrated on these boards since the French. He had a good run, but clay's always been his favorite surface, along w/hard courts. But DelPotro on grass to make the semis? I think he'll trip up somewhere along the way. If not to Hewitt, then to Ferrer or Stepanek in the rof16.

Del Potro is a big lad, will he be able to cope with the number of balls he will have to play down by his ankles? I'm not so sure.

Del Potro has one hell of a draw to the semis, I think that if he gets past his opening matches relatively quickly his confidence will skyrocket and then the murray-del potro match would be a great one, should it happen. I don’t think del potro’s past wimby results are off much significance, he really has only started improving after last year’s wimby

What I noticed with Del Potro over the past year or so is that he usually always beats who is he supposed to beat and with fairly comfortable scores as well, probably due to the fact that he hits so big but is also surprisingly consistent, isn't a UFE machine at all.So he doesn't strike as someone who is ripe for the upset in the early rounds even though his draw is tough,so I'm pretty sure he'll make it to Roddick but whether he'll beat him is another story.

He's gonna get sliced to death at Wimbledon pretty difficult for hit deal with a slow slice on grass.

Grat point Cesc. They guy is 8-5 on grass - there's a reason guys as tall as him struggle at wimby and you just nailed it. Check out Karlovic's Wimby record too - if ever there was a guy who looked at first glance like he'd do well at wimbledon it's Ivo, but his record speaks for itself.

Tall guys with a big serve can succeed at Wimbledon but they were only serve and volleyers aka Krajicek, Philippoussis. Del Potro does not have the natural volley game, instinct and reflexes to cut down the lack of agility. Low balls and overall movement will penalize him a lot. He should appear more one dimensional than ever. However Del Potro’s draw was a freeway before Nadal’s withdraw, now it’s a lot harder.

Good points - I should've qaulified what I said.

I'd also add that the big cuts JMDP likes to take on both wings aren't ideal on low bouncing grass.

Yep if grass is still grass he will have to learn to play on the surface first, make footwork’s adjustments and then try to get some results, it’s not a simple process. He will not have the traction he likes on steadier surfaces, hard and clay as well. This is an entire equation to resolve. Interesting to see.

I don't see him getting past Hewitt..In fact if the odds are good,I'm willing to bet on it.:)

Please don’t do that. Betting = more stress, less pleasure when watching the matches, little money in the end ;)

I see Andy/Andy in the semis, think DelPo has a good shot of making the 1/4s but I'm not sure he'll get passed Roddick, we've lacked for any chances at all to see DelPo play on grass this year so I'm thinking that greater grass experience will tell in the end

DelPo has really impressed this year. Especially after getting demolished by Fed at AO 2009, most players would be so discouraged, instead Delpo has kept improving and almost beat Fed at the FO.

I think he has a very good chance at beating AM if they meet.

Del Potro will have a tough match vs. Hewitt in rd. 2 for sure. Hewitt is quicker, can return serve seasonably well, and is capable of running down any big shots DelPo makes. And lets not forget the experience factor: Hewitt, former Wimbledon champ vs. Del Potro, who has never made it past rd. 2 of Wimbledon.

I would usually cheer for Murray, but I've gained tons of respect for Delpo after the FO, so if that happens I would be happy with any of them winning.

You know what - if they do meet; it'll mean that Delp has won five matches on the bounce - so it's not such a daft idea that he might have a shot against Murray.

I think people are overating del Potro a lot these days. Let him prove things at the slams and then we can talk.

Federer is the only guy who could pose some problems for Murray, I don't think the rest of the field can.

Andy Murray - 1 F, 2 QF
Del Potro - 1 SF,2 QF

Whole lot of difference I see

While DP is getting over-rated by some, so is andy murray ....

And GOAT rofl!!

Anyway, yes, this potential SF would be really interesting, Delpo can play good on both HC and clay, lets see if hes able to trouble Murray on grass here if they meet.

Since the start of the season, Delpo has done better than both Murray and Djokovic on slams. Del Potro has reached QF in the AO, and SF in the FO. Both times he lost to only one man. Del Potro has managed to beat both Murray and Nadal this year - not bad results for anyone. He also manage to push Fed to 5 sets at the FO.

If anything, he's underrated.

Underrated overall, overrated for this tourney. You have to remember he's 2-2 lifetime at Wimbledon. I know he's playing the best of his career, but penciling him into the semis is a bit too premature for my tastes. Let's see how he does the first couple of rounds (if he makes it through), then maybe I'll jump on board. Until then, I don't put him above Murray, Djokovic, Roddick, and of course, Fed's chances of winning.

I think he'll lose to Roddick in the quarters, but I wouldn't mind seeing him go farther. His performance at the French Open, particularly against Federer, has made me something of a fan. Del Potro's not afraid to take it to the top guys.

Murray's first has to deal wit Robby.Deadly game on grass ask Rafa.I'm taking Kendrick to take Andy out in my ATP draw.Andy has more pressure this year than Henman ever had, will see how he deals with it.Del Porto isn't a shoe in either.Good foot work is needed at Wimbledon witch Juan lacks so it will fun watching him slip all over the place. If Roddicks ankle is ok expect him to do well.Hewitt's my darkhorse.

You do realise Murray double bagelled Robby on grass in 06 - after he'd taken 2 sets off Rafa?
