Who is tired of the shrieking?

This topic is based around Women's tennis.

Personally, I can't stand the elongated and unnecessary shrieks from these women. I understand the benefit of breathing out during the shot, but some of these shrieks are being taken too far.

Not just that, but I'm really getting accustomed to just turning the channel when I see a women's match, because there's too much drama usually, and if it's Serena, I can't stand the footwork, and her behavior.

Please, do not flame, or say that I'm trolling, this is just my opinion.

What do you guys think?

A manly grunt or a lady like grunt (Dementieva (SP)) is not bad. But if you're doing it ala Sheirkapova and the Williams man I'd hit that mute button or watch another channel and just wait for the next match.

I remembered that at one point where she screamed so hard because she thought that the point was over and got surprised that Silva was able to get to the ball, made the audience laugh for a bit and then Serena screamed for the second time around and duly ended the point.

its dumb, you dont need to grunt or watever.

when roddick hit the hardest serve and overhead (see youtube), did you see any sound come out of his mouth, no, thats wat i thought.

im more annoyed at the likes of nadal and djokovic (2nd favourite playa) time wasting

Really, who cares, that is how these players play. And if you are stupid enough to change the channel when one of the williams or sharapova is on then be my guest because you will miss an amazing match. I dont find it that annoying

neither do I but I do find it quite irritating as the match goes on because then I find myself reducing the volume and I miss out in commentating

I agree. No, it isn't necessary and it shouldn't be applauded, but there's little I (or anyone else on TW) can do about it. So, instead of focusing on the negative, I just ignore it and focus on the tennis.

What is amazing is how Serena is still seeded #3 despite being completely out of shape and past her prime. What a sad sight the WTA has turned into the past couple of years.

I don't mind it. It's not that loud over my tv and sometimes hilarious wwhen they miss.

I only really watch matches with the Williams or Kuznetsova anyways. Maybe Bethannie Mattek and Sharapova too. They entertain me

I read somewhere that Sharapova once told everyone (at some press conference or interview before a tournament?) to turn off their grunt-o-meters etc and "just watch the match". lol...

Does anyone know at what tournament she said this? And whether she said this in a joking manner or whether she was actually quite offended/annoyed at all the grunt-related questions posed by the interviewer? :twisted:

It's a disgrace. Swing with a tennis stroke as hard as you can while breathing out and you MIGHT leave out a short grunt barely hearable from the other end of a court.

You never hear the screams when they're out practicing.... Seems like if it were natural they would be doing it there too since their hitting the same shots just as hard.

I hated Sharapovas shrieking today, I'm so glad she was eliminated. Dulko was so classy, she didn't need to shriek at all.

the most ridiculous was when sharapova had easy balls close to the net that looked like they were going to be winners, so when she hit she screamed even louder, but then the ball was out or hit the net. Im so happy dulko beated her, shes so quite and classy.

When she said she's been doing it since a young age, was someone stabbing her with a knife each time she hit the ball or something?

I'm also pretty sick of the threads on it tbh. I think what is also unnecessary is to always blame the female tennis players for it all. Nadal, Djokovic and many other male tennis players do it too. The only time I've turned off a match because of grunting was because a male tennis player sounded like a baby crying each time he hit the ball.

yeah it's funny, but at the same time you wanna smack the girl on the wrist and tell her to STFU. thank god she and Shreikapova, both out in the same day.

I don't mind grunting at all. But screeching a la Larcher De Brito is going too far. I can't help but sit back and laugh when I'm watching her play.

that wasn't a diss on you, more like a question for the op and a lot of posters in general. this thread was started yesterday. people don't bother scrolling past the first page, as if every thread started is utterly original to them. most times, it's not. like the whole shrieking topic. yeah, shrieking is annoying . . . fine, i get it. but it's not so important that it deserves 20 threads.
