Luxilon alu power rough

The Tour players started using it 2-3 years ago, in the earlier versions, and they are now used to the feel of it. They get it for free and don't use the same string for more than 2 hours max. After that it goes dead and plays like a board.

Newer and more advanced CoPoly started coming and right now the Luxilon strings are old technology, but pro players don't like to change racquets nor string brand very often, so Luxilon is still the most used string on tour bar none.

Nadal also still plays with a very boardy stiff and plain Babolat poly string, because it's what he is used to play with. The players only change string brand, if their game goes south.

Luxilon lives high on that reputation - and sell a lot of strings because of this. I love Luxilon Alu BB ROUGH the first 2-3 hours, after that I get Tennis Elbow from it and need to cut it out.
I find that there are better performing copoly strings out there now, with far better tension stability - so I dumped Luxilon last month and will not but it again until they make a proper 4.th generation string with focus on better tension retention.

Weiscannon, Signum, Tecnifibre (French company) and other German companies now make better CoPoly strings than Luxilon, I hate to say it, but it's true.

Some still WANT AND NEED to believe LUX ALU BB Rough is the best because Fed, Djokster and a lot of other pro players use it. But as I say - even if there are better racquets out there, a pro player does not change his racquet unless something is wrong with his game. Same with strings.

Exceptional spin. I can take full swings on my groundies with it, generate a ton of action on the ball, and for the most part, keep the ball within the lines. It has an almost magical "pop" to it that I have not found in any other poly. I've been using it almost exclusively for over a year now and don't have any plans to switch away from it.

It does, however, lose playability fairly quickly. I get about six great hours out of a set, then I cut it out and restring.

Unlike what ClubHoUno says, it has nothing to do with Fed or any other pro for that matter. I love Alu Power Rough because of the way it plays and the way it suits my game. When fresh, Alu Power Rough is one of the best playing poly's on the market.

Take care.

Alu Rough is the best string I've ever used. The only problem with it is durability. The spin, power, and control it has is second to none.

this sums it up...luxilon stuff feels very harsh to me (not that i've tried every string)...

Tried BB Alu Rough due to its reputation and it's too harsh for me, gave me arm soreness that lasted about a month after I cut the strings out.

Amazing power and control!

Other than it's durability and price (and for some, harshness; not for), this string is magic while fresh. Control, spin and pop, it's got it all. It doesn't last long though but still plays decently after the "magic" is gone. When fresh, nothing in the world plays like ALU Power (Rough)

i generally like a tighter string, but i think with the luxilons you have to go lower...i normally like a 60ish lbs. in my Pure Storm Ltd GT 18x20 string pattern...alu rough felt really harsh at first...i was about to cut it, but decided to just leave it in...after it loosened up after an hour or so of hitting, it feels pretty good! i just wish i would've started at a lower tension....maybe around 54 or 55...

Because BB ALU Rough is the best playing string on the market for the first 4 hours you use it. Then it dies and you find yourself asking why you paid $17 for string that you get two sessions out of. Great spin, great feel, just overall great string. But so very cost inefficient.

what is so great about this string???

I think it can be compared to... cocaine. It was the IT thing many years ago,
and when that era ended, people tried to find new identities and got into other things. Yet it remained the most popular, because while there are experiences that are soft, spinny... nothing came close to the supercharged, anything-is-possible sensation (Disclaimer: I have not had a personal experience with coke, this is all imaginative). And models and movie stars use it, so you want it too. It's expensive. It's a pain to get (strung). The sensation dies quickly and your play crash. But it's addictive and you're ready to start the experience all over again. Because when you have the BBPR on, things just cannot go wrong (long, please excuse my asian accent).

... and then you go broke

Let's get something clear...the word, "Best" is subject to personal opinion...

True, I should have prefaced myself with IMHO before the post.

That being said, I will agree with what others have said in that there are much better copolys on the market, IMHO.

I play with BC and it plays, at least to me, every bit as good as ALUR and it doesn't cost as much and I get much better life out of it.

I am hoping that Luxilon is going to soon be releasing the new generation of ALU strings and that they will improve on what I think is an already excellent string.
