Nadal had moments of absolute wizardry against Karlovic.
That being said, he is not one of the top 3 returners in the game today
You're incorrect. Check the stats prior to making such a claim.
This is for 2010... in 2009 his return stats were virtually identical to these.

He's currently #1 for both
% POINTS WON RETURNING 1ST SERVE and
% TOTAL RETURN GAMES WON
Better than CURRENT Hewitt? Is this a joke? :shock:As I was watching Rafa vs Ivo yesterday, I came to a conclusion that Rafa actually handles Ivo's serve better than Hewitt.
Some would say that Sampras had a better serve than Ivo, but how come Hewitt returned Sampras' serve quite effectively but not the rapper's?

Hewitt's return is underrated! His return is comparable to Agassi's!
Those stats don't reflect the difference between return of serve and the return game. It would be like looking at hold percentages to determine the quality of a player's serve. In addition, it would have been better if you provided the 2009 stats since we have a limited sample size for this year.
The reason for that is his tenacity, speed and defence. But his actual return of the 1st ball isnt as good as a Murray or a Nalby.
