I agee with those above that mentioned MSV Focus Hex as a cheap black textured poly. For the price, it is a pretty decent string. However, in a full bed it can drop tension pretty quick.

Volkl Cyclone. Love that string. $5.99/set at TW

There's also Golden Set Snakebite in black, but I haven't tried it.

I would agree that you should try Volkl Cyclone. I have used both the 17g and 16g, mostly in a hybrig with syngut or multifilament.

Spin is awesome and durability is great.

I suggest stringing the Cyclone 5-7% less than you would with syngut.

Cheap textured black polys I've tried are Volkl Cyclone and Pro's Pro Blackout. I'm mostly a weekend warrior, so I don't play everyday, but both strings I've tried in hybrids and I think they're good for the money. Volkl Cyclone is around $6 a set and Pro's Pro Blackout is only available through Euro dealers and I think I paid like $50 for the reel (I'm sure $10 of it was shipping). Believe it or not, I find Forten Competition Nylon an excellent string to hybrid with polys. Forten Nylon is only sold in reels, but comes in black and it's dirt cheap at $17 a reel. Many others here who've tried Forten Nylon in such a way will tell you the same.

Pro's Pro Blackout seconded. Been using it for a while now, very good value, holds tension well and at lower tensions (about 45lbs) it's comfy.

Tried Black Code and MSV Focus hex which I liked too but they're not worth the extra money imo (and both went off faster than blackout, probably because they're softer).

im really liking the msv focus hex. incredible bite and good price for the string. the 1.10mm does lose tension rather fast, but i feel it plays better once it loosens up.

thanks guys. I'm going to order some cyclone/msv hex. depending and some forten nylon how do you guys like the nylon?

Yeah, Cyclone is a good choice and a good value in terms of individual set cost. As for the Forten Nylon, I think it's a great cheap string to have lying around since you can't really go wrong for $17 a reel...which when you think about it is the same price for a single set of high end Polys and Multis. The Nylon does a great job of softening up the string bed when hybrided with a Poly. As I mentioned before, I've hybrided Forten Nylon with a few different Polys from Luxilon ALU to Volkl Cyclone and it works great for me.

Golden Set Snake Bite

Golden Set makes a GREAT black twisted poly. It is called snake bite and costs $5.77 a set. A reel only costs $77!! Really great string at an affordable price. Best deal for your money if you ask me.

+1 for Volkl CYCLONE - are you kidding?!

You can't beat this string for $5.99 a set. It outperforms nearly everything out there for twice the money. Check the reviews and rating on StringForum.net. NO BRAINER!

RPM nice but goes off way too fast, TW out of single sets of cyclone 17g so I've bought some blackout - thanks Xenakis.

I'll let the comunity know how it goes when it arrives.

Just curious but has anyone here hit Cyclone and Black Code?

I love BC because it is a softer poly and is relatively low powered. Does Cyclone have the same soft feel or is it noticeably firmer?

Yes, I know. Black Code is my current string of choice. I was wondering if the feel and power of Cyclone was comparable to that of Black Code. I love BC but if there is something just as good or better for cheaper, I'm all up for trying it out.
