just curious which pro player might have a blatant paint job with
far different specs in weight/flex/headsize/etc from the actual racquet they use..

like if a player was using a 12+oz Pure Control but given an 11oz Pure Storm paintjob, etc.

or 12oz PT280 but given 11oz Radical MP paintjob.

or using big bubba but have wilson k88 paint????

is there a "worst offender" in this paint job ruse?

Stefan Edberg's PS85 with the PS 6.1 Classic paint job springs to mind.

It had a different head size, shape, string pattern as well as a different frame cross-section, balance and weight.

Pat Rafter's Dunlop 500 which is actually his old Prince DB something or other complete with the plastic bridge...

Not a bad effort for Dunlop especially considering Rafter plays senior events to the tune of two a year? :)

Robredo is NOT using a 10.4 ounce racquet with a 300 swingweight and 71 flex rating :) (Dunlop 600)

There's Cibulkova with her Superlite Dunlop and then there's Wickmayer with an AG500 painted as a Donnay. What racquet is DoCi using under that paint and what Donnay is Wicky endorsing?

The classic one would still be Safin's "Dunlop". Weird that Dunlop is the worst offender of this paintjobbery.

Justine Henin used to supposedly wield the Wilson BLX Tour, although it was quite clear that she didn't as her actual playing racquet had Wilson's old powerholes system....

Her actual racquet looked a lot bigger than 95 square inches too.

Yeah...right. That's because of her physical proportions (i.e she's SMALL).
Put the same racquet in Berdych's hands and it will look like a midsized toothpick.

Currently, I'm with Rafter's prince ---> Dunlop and Robredo's paintjob as being just about as far away as possible from the actual thing underneath the paint.

Yes and they brought back the mold to the consumer with the BLX Tour Limited

The first one that comes to mind is Baggy's Fischer under the Tecnifibre PJ. If you look, you can still see the old Fischer head guard.

Also, I'm convinced that racquets look considerably bigger on television and often times even in pictures.

VS- thanks for the correction. So Ljubicic's racquet has the same shape as the Extreme, but the inside setup in terms of materials and construction are different? That makes it pretty different from the paintjob to me. Same shape, different materials. Kind of like putting a Ford engine in a Chevy body.

It is a Radical MP MOLD.

It is like comparing race cars with street car.

Nascar race cars, dtm cars looks like street car from outside.

I'm not sure if I agree with the analogy. It doesn't appear that Ljubicic has superior materials or layup in his frame compared to other players. Most pro frames are 'high performance' materials. I wonder if VS meant Ljubicic lays up his racquet differently to get a feel that suits him best and not because his layup is superior to others. Ivan's racquet should theoretically play the same as everyone elses, just with a different feel to it.

From the Paint Job Hall of F(r)ame comes Laver's wood racquet that was painted to look like a metal racquet.

High Performance materials, as in, different from the graphite/kevlar/etc for retail frames?

Never heard of such a thing. I can understand if the layup is different, because the player would like a different flex, but super-special materials? I don't buy it.

I don't see how any other racket paintjob can even compare to that one. Using a Head Prestige Classic 600 with a Dunlop paintjob? That's about as misleading as it can get.

Well HEAD does it the other way around with Mauresmo's racquet (Dunlop).
Or at least did it when Mauresmo was playing.

Richard Gasquet's LM Intinct Tour XL painted to look like an Extreme Pro.

Victoria Azarenka's LM Instinct painted to look like an Extreme Pro.

Yen-Hsun Lu's Instinct (can't remember which generation) painted to look like an Extreme Pro.

Ivan Dodig using a Radical with a 16x18 pattern.

Sania Mirza using a Wilson Pro Open with an 18x20 pattern (no, its not a Pro Tour).

^ That's pretty ridiculous, a kblade PJ with a 16x19 pattern.... Similar to Djokovic using an 18x20 and Head advertising the SpeedPro in 16x19 as his 'signature' racquet....

I can understand PJ's and their purpose... but when consumers can do something as simple as counting mains and crosses to understand it is a PJ..???? .... it feels like a slap in the face by the manufacturers.

No, not anything different than graphite, which I consider to be 'high performance.' It depends on your own definition, of course.

That sentence was in reference to the analogy of the race car. Most racquets you buy from places like TW are high quality and good enough for professionals to take off the rack and use with some minor modifications. I just wanted to point out that I thought all pro players had good quality equipment and that you wouldn't have one pro playing with a so-called 'stock car engine' and another with a 'race car engine.' Layup is different than materials- that was what I was trying to make clear. Hope that helps.

Djokovic when he was endorsing the K Blade 98, and it was a Radical MP mold (LM without ridges I think?).

No and no...
He was endorsing the KBT, not the KB98 and no, it was not the Radical mold under it, but the H22, which is a Wilson equivalent of the PT57 from Head...
